Positive switching impulse discharge characteristics are an important basis for the external insulation design of transmission line towers. At present, the characteristics are obtained mainly by real tower discharge tests. Since the existing research on the discharge model is not perfect, test designs are not reasonable, which results in high costs. The influence of line height and tower width on the discharge characteristics of Ultra High Voltage (UHV) transmission lines air gaps is studied in this paper. The results show that the line height had little influence on the breakdown voltage of air gaps in UHV transmission lines. A tower-width discharge model was obtained by fitting the breakdown voltage of air gaps with different gap lengths and tower widths. By analyzing the gap characteristic factors of different transmission lines, a discharge model of different tower air gaps in UHV transmission lines was presented. The breakdown voltage calculated by the models was in good agreement with the test results, and the errors were not more than 5%.

In the UHV AC transmission lines will be rapid development momentum of main frame China grid, inspection of UHV transmission line for the realization of unmanned aircraft utility,this article makes an analysis for the structure characteristics and defects of the UHV transmission line , finds out the defect characteristics, and summarizes the characteristics of the UAV and inspection instrument. According to the characteristic of UHV defect, we display its properties of unmanned aerial vehicles and inspection instrument, construct the application mode of four kinds of unmanned aerial vehicle inspection, and have a description for each model.

In order to optimize the design of UHV substation and reduce its construction investment, it is necessary to take further research of UHV substation air-gap discharge characteristics. In this paper, by using sub-conductor and tower to simulate UHV substation air-gap, lightning and switching impulse discharge characteristics tests of UHV substation are taken in the UHV AC test base of SGCC. The results show that, when the distance of conductor between tower is in range of 4m to 7m, the 50% lightning impulse and switching impulse discharge voltage rise along with the rise of air gap distance. As the air-gap increases, the switching impulse discharge voltage presents the trend of saturation. According to the analysis of test results, we can draw a conclusion that the gap factor of switching impulse discharge can be 1.22 when the minimum distance between conductors and tower is 5~8m.

The properties of a modified coaxial transmission line by periodic inclusions will be discussed. The introduction of split ring resonators, conductor stubs, air gaps, and combination of these gives rise to new frequency selective properties, such as stopband or passband behavior, observable in planar as well as volumetric metamaterial structures. These results envisage new potential applications and implementation of devices in coaxial transmission line technology.

The problems of Electromagnetic Interference in Airborne Intelligence Radar Stations near the AC UHV Transmission Lines are researched in this paper, which is mainly active interference. The calculation method for the interferences is analysed, and then the proper protection distances of the AC UHV transmission line to the radar station are given. The paper analyzed the active interference of AC UHV transmission lines, and focuses on the active interference caused by the line corona on the active radar of nearby airborne intelligence when the transmission line is under normal operation. In the end, this paper proposes the recommended values of active interference protection distance for 1000kV AC UHV transmission lines and airborne intelligence radar stations.

Egineering running experience shows that with the increase of the operating voltage of the transmission line, the lightning trip rate is increasing. According to theoretical calculation , UHV transmission lines should be provided with full lightning protection characteristics;however,running experience shows that the lightning withstand level of UHV transmission lines is high,not completely lightning protection; it puts forward higher requirements for lightning protection design of UHV transmission line in China. UHV transmission line is mainly against direct lightning stroke characteristics, one is caused by lightning counterattack trip,the other is the shielding failure of lightning around the line to strike the wound caused by the wire. The lightning fault type identification is based on the micro topography of UHV transmission tower,accumulation of historical data,the development of a more targeted and high voltage transmission line lightning protection scheme is of great significance. In this paper, a real-time identification system based on UV detection technology, which has high accuracy and fast response time, is proposed for lightning fault types of UHV transmission lines, the systems use ultraviolet light to realize online detection of high-voltage transmission line tower nearby lightning, can effective observation tower near lightning discharge, and it has the characteristics of continuous detection, longdistance, no power supply, no contact and no disassembly, it provides an advanced technology for the detection of lightning discharge in UHV transmission line.
