In Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) there is yet no converged terminology. The term ‘system model’ is used in different contexts in literature. In this study we elaborated the definitions and usages of the term ‘system model’, to find a common definition. We analyzed 104 publications in depth for their usage and definition as well as their meta-data e.g., the publication year and publication background to find some common patterns. While the term is gaining more interest in recent years, it is used in a broad range of contexts for both analytical and synthetic use cases. Based on this, three categories of system models have been defined and integrated into a more precise definition.

Security patterns encompass security-related issues in secure software system development and operations that often appear in certain contexts. Since the late 1990s about 500 security patterns have been proposed. Although the technical components are well investigated, the direction, overall picture, and barriers to implementation are not. Here, a systematic literature review of 240 papers is used to devise a taxonomy for security pattern research. Our taxonomy and the survey results should improve communications among practitioners and researchers, standardize the terminology, and increase the effectiveness of security patterns.

AbstractModel-based systems engineering (MBSE) is well-known in gaining the control over the complexity of systems and the development processes, while agile is a project management methodology originally from software development that uses short development cycles to focus on continuous improvement in the development of a product or service. In this paper, we adopt the concept of agile into MBSE and then proposed the new approach - Munich Agile MBSE Concept (MAGIC). The highlights of the MAGIC approach can be concluded as 1) the requirements which have been defined in the first stage will be examined and traced at each following stages; 2) communication between every 2 stages always exists in order to have a close connection during each system development phase; 3) the idea of Industry 4.0 has been included and reflected to achieve automation and data exchange with manufacturing technologies; 4) the concept of IOT (Internet of Things) is also considered when it comes to the usage and service of the system to satisfy the customer's needs; 5) the whole spirit of agile is reflected as the iterative and incremental design and development

Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) is an approach to improve traditional document-based systems engineering approach through the use of a system model. In the current practice of system developments, there exists a large gap between systems engineering activities and engineering analyses, because systems engineers and engineering analysts are using different models, tools and terminology. The gap results in inefficiencies and quality issues that can be very expensive. This work presents an integrated modeling and analysis capability that bridges the gap. The technical approach is based on integrating SysML modeling tools with process integration and design optimization framework. This approach connects SysML models with various engineering analysis tools through a common interface. A capability was developed to automatically generate analysis models from a system model and then execute the analytical models. Requirements conformance analysis was performed using results of engineering analysis. A technique was developed to define optimization problems in SysML, where requirements were used as design constraints. The integrated system modeling and analysis capability was demonstrated using an automobile brake pad design example. The integrated toolset was used to understand impacts of requirements changes in the SysML model and to find a new design that meets the new requirements through engineering design optimization.
