The horizontal bending angle of scraper conveyor has a great influence on the running resistance, the current consumption, coal winning efficiency of the working surface, etc. Approximately 1–3° is usually the range of horizontal bending angle, but does not indicate the optimum bending angle of the coal mining face. To find the optimal horizontal bending angle, an optimization method is proposed. A mathematical calculation model of the running resistance of the scraper is established based on the direction of the shearer operation. Then, a method of adjusting the step size of the search by inertia weight and expanding fly distance range obeying the t-distribution is proposed based on the basic bat algorithm (BA). Finally, an industrial application was conducted in 21220 Changcun fully mechanized coal mining face, Henan Province. The results show that the current consumption by the scraper conveyor was reduced by 31% when the horizontal bending angle of the S-bending area was 0.66°. Meanwhile, the theoretical current has good consistency with the experimental data, and the average absolute error was 3%.

In a fully mechanized coal-mining face, the positioning and attitude of the shearer and scraper conveyor are inaccurate. To overcome this problem, a joint positioning and attitude solving method that considers the effect of an uneven floor is proposed. In addition, the real-time connection and coupling relationship between the two devices is analyzed. Two types of sensors, namely, the tilt sensor and strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS), are used to measure the shearer body pitch angle and the scraper conveyor shape, respectively. To improve the accuracy, two pieces of information are fused using the adaptive information fusion algorithm. It is observed that, using a marking strategy, the shearer body pitch angle can be reversely mapped to the real-time shape of the scraper conveyor. Then, a virtual-reality (VR) software that can visually simulate this entire operation process under different conditions is developed. Finally, experiments are conducted on a prototype experimental platform. The positioning error is found to be less than 0.38 times the middle trough length; moreover, no accumulated error is detected. This method can monitor the operation of the shearer and scraper conveyor in a highly dynamic and precise manner and provide strong technical support for safe and efficient operation of a fully mechanized coal-mining face.

AbstractA mathematical hydraulic support self-tracking model for three-machine cooperative mining is proposed to address low efficiency and difficulties in strategy evaluation of a fully mechanized coal face. The proposed model uses the coordinates and traction speed of the shearer to calculate the frequency of the circular hydraulic support and realize the coordinated operation of the three-machine mining technology. A unity3d hardware-in-the-loop simulation experimental hearer and hydraulic support platform was used to validate the model of autonomous follow-up. The results indicate that collaborative control of coal mining allowed for an efficiency 3.76% higher than under automatic operation mode and 46.03% higher than under manual control; thus, The mathematical model provided an improved production efficiency of the fully mechanized mining face. The mathematical model also provides a more intelligent and reliable security support, and improves the intelligent level of hydraulic support follow-up control.

To get the maximum coal in front of the working face of the 17# coal seam, we installed a longer beam which is 1.2m in length in the leading end of the original working face supports ZF3000/17/28, and know that working face supports’ setting load and working resistance are lower .We changed the original supports with shield supports ZY3800/15/33 that are adaptable in the geological condition and got the favorable affection.

The aim of this study is to obtain movement laws of overlying strata above a fully mechanized coal mining face backfilled with gangue and solve the problem of surface subsidence during coal mining. This study was carried out based on gangue backfilling mining of Jiulishan Coal Mine (Jiaozuo City, Henan Province, China) from the perspectives of deformation of backfilled gangue under compaction, surrounding rock of a stope, and activities of key strata. The method combining with rock mechanics, viscoelastic mechanics, control theory of rock mass under mining, and numerical simulation was used based on physical and mechanical characteristics of backfilled gangue. On this basis, the research analyzed the temporal-spatial relationships of activities of surrounding rock of the stope, compressive deformation of backfilling body, failure depth of the floor, deformation characteristics of the main roof with laws of surface subsidence. The movement characteristics of overlying strata above the fully mechanized coal mining face backfilled with gangue and the traditional fully mechanized mining face were compared. It is found that, under the same conditions of overlying strata, movement laws of overlying strata are mainly determined by the mining height of coal seams and the heights of a caving zone and a fracture zone are nearly linearly correlated with the mining height. Through analysis based on thin-plate theory and key stratum theory, the location of the main roof of the fully mechanized coal mining face backfilled with gangue in coal seams first bending and sinking due to load of overlying strata was ascertained. Then, it was determined that there are two key strata and the main roof belongs to the inferior key stratum. By using the established mechanical model for the main roof of the fully mechanized coal mining face backfilled with gangue and the calculation formula for the maximum deflection of the main roof, this research presented the conditions for breaking of the main roof. In addition, based on the theoretical analysis, it is concluded that the main roof of the fully mechanized coal mining face backfilled with gangue does not break, but bends. The numerical simulation results demonstrate that, with the continuous increase of strength of backfilled gangue, the stress concentration degree of surrounding rock reduces constantly, so does its decrease amplitude. Moreover, the compressive deformation of backfilling, failure depth of the floor, and bending and subsidence of the main roof continuously decrease and tend to be stable. The mechanical properties of backfilling materials determine effects of gangue backfilling in controlling surface subsidence. Gangue backfilling can effectively control movement of overlying strata and surface subsidence tends to be stable with the increase of elastic modulus of gangue.

Abstract This study provides a new permanent magnetic eddy current drive system to solve the ener-gy-saving drive problem of the scraper conveyor working under bad conditions, including overload startup, severe abrasion and pollution. Considering the practical conveying conditions of the scraper chain on a fully mechanised coal mining face, this study creates a mathematical model for the new permanent magnetic eddy current drive system of the scraper conveyor based on its characteristics and indicates the motion characteristics of the scraper chain driven by two wheels. This study verifies the model accuracy with a pre-startup technology depending on the scraper conveyor on the No. 12318 working face of the 8th coal mine in the West No. 1 mining area of the Pansan Coal Mine of the Huainan Mining Group. According to the results, the motion acceleration of the scraper chain based on the new permanent magnetic eddy current drive is lower than that of the scraper chain with a hydraulic coupler under the same running condition and load during startup and acceleration and declines by approximately 14.7%. Consequently, this can decline the startup impact due to the serious abrasion and frequent overload of the scraper chain working under bad conditions.

Coal is one of the non-renewable resources, and in our country at present also is the main source of energy. It is very important to improve the coal mining rate, to exploit and to use the coal reasonably. Saving coal resource is an important measure for our coal industries sustainable development. Because large amounts of coal under complex conditions caused by fully mechanized mining can not be mined, the rotation mining with large angle for unequal and fully mechanized mining face and its design and main parameters are introduced in this article based on an engineering practice. Using this mining method, the coal under complex condition can be mined as much as possible. It is helpful for us to improve coal mining rate and to economize coal resources.
