Important role in producing goods or services of enterprises that produce products, taking into account every modern method and the latest technology in the field of quality. Among them are the logistics concept Lean Production. The principles of Lean management are familiar in the USA, Japan and other countries, but this approach is not as popular in Latvia as it is abroad. In this scientific article, the author explores Lean management and its impact on enterprises as well as its development trends in Latvia. The aim of this work is the Lean approach and its development in Latvia. To achieve the goal better, the author has used the following methods: monographic or descriptive, grouping, graphical analysis and synthesis. After the research, the author can conclude that there is no demand for Lean approach in Latvia. Only a small number of Latvian companies use the principles of Lean Management for a little more par 5%. This proves that many people do not even know what Lean management is. The author of the work will explore everything about Lean management. Will explore the benefits companies will have after implementing Lean management principles in their companies. The recent trends of the Lean approach in Latvia from 2011 to 2015.

Dementia, a decline in memory and cognition leading to disability in daily function, is a common and feared geriatric condition. Over the past decade, dementia has been the focus of increasing attention from researchers, clinicians, and policymakers due to the projected significant increase in the number of dementia cases expected to result from the worldwide growth in the elderly population. Given the growing evidence that late-life dementia risk likely results from the summation of risk and protective factors that individuals experience across the life course from birth (even pre-birth) through old age, an ‘age-period-cohort’ perspective which clarifies trends in dementia using each of these different lenses may help in identifying potential causal pathways that affect dementia risk. In this chapter, we review recent literature on trends in dementia incidence and prevalence in countries around the world, discuss hypothesized causes for those trends, and present new data on recent trends in dementia incidence and prevalence in the USA.

Abstract Background Evidence suggests adolescent alcohol consumption has declined since the turn of the millennium in almost all high-income countries. However, differences in the timing and magnitude of the decline have not been explored across countries. Methods We examined trends in adolescent past month or monthly alcohol consumption prevalence from cross-national or national survey reports for 39 countries and four US territories. For each country, we calculated the magnitude of the decline in youth drinking as the relative change in prevalence from the peak year to the most recent year available. Heat maps were utilized to present the timing and magnitudes of these declines. Results The timing and extent of youth drinking declines have varied markedly across countries. The decline began in the USA before 1999, followed by Northern European countries in the early 2000s; Western Europe and Australasia in the mid-2000s. The steepest declines were found for Northern Europe and the UK, and the shallowest declines were observed in Eastern and Southern European countries. Conclusions Previous analyses of the decline in adolescent drinking have emphasized the wide reach of the changes and their near-coincidence in time. Our analysis points to the other side of the picture that there were limits to the wide reach, and that there was considerable variation in timing. These findings suggest that as well as broader explanations that stretch across countries, efforts to explain recent trends in adolescent drinking should also consider factors specific to countries and regions.

ABSTRACT:Background: As with other specialties, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) trainees in Neurosurgery have anecdotally had challenges securing full-time employment. This study presents the employment status, research pursuits, and fellowship choices of neurosurgery trainees in Canadian programs. Methods: RCPSC neurosurgery trainees (n = 143) who began their residency training between 1998 and 2008 were included in this study. Associations between year of residency completion, research pursuits, and fellowship choice with career outcomes were determined by Fisher’s exact test (p < 0.05, statistical significance). Results: In 2015, 60% and 26% of neurosurgery trainees had permanent positions in Canada and the USA, respectively. Underemployment, defined as locum and clinical associate positions, pursuit of multiple unrelated fellowships, unemployment, and career change to non-surgical career, was 12% in 2015. The proportion of neurosurgery trainees who had been underemployed at some point within 5 years since residency completion was 20%. Pursuit of in-folded research (MSc, PhD, or non-degree research greater than 1 year) was significantly associated with obtaining full employment (94% vs. 73%, p = 0.011). However, fellowship training was not significantly associated with obtaining full employment (78% vs. 75%, p = 1.000). Conclusions: Underemployment in neurosurgery has become a significant issue in Canada for various reasons. Pursuit of in-folded research, but not fellowship training, was associated with obtaining full employment.
