Objective. To shed light on the association between hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs). Methods. From July 2013 to March 2017, we conducted a matched case–control study involving individuals who presented to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital and underwent thoracoabdominal magnetic resonance angiography or computed tomography angiography. A total of 73 patients with TAAAs were enrolled in the case group, and 219 sex-matched subjects without TAAAs were included in the control group. We then examined the relationship between HHcy and TAAAs by logistic regression models and subgroup as well as interaction analyses. Results. Serum total homocysteine (tHcy) concentrations and the proportion of HHcy were significantly higher in the patients with TAAAs than in those without TAAAs (P<0.001). Furthermore, the multivariate logistic regression models indicated that participants with HHcy had a 2.14-fold higher risk of TAAAs than those with a normal serum tHcy level (adjusted odds ratio (OR), 2.14; 95% confidence interval, 1.00–4.56). Similarly, each 1 μmol/L increase in the serum tHcy concentration was associated with a 4% higher risk of TAAAs (adjusted OR, 1.04; 95% confidence interval, 1.00–1.07). Subgroup analyses indicated that HHcy tended to be associated with a greater risk of TAAAs in all stratified subgroups (adjusted ORs>1). Furthermore, the interaction analyses revealed no interactive role in the association between HHcy and TAAAs. Conclusions. The present case–control study suggests that HHcy is an independent risk factor for TAAAs. Larger prospective cohort studies are warranted to validate these findings.

Didapatkan hubungan ketiga skrining (MAP, ROT, IMT) dengan kejadian preeklampsia (p 0.001, OR 4.529). Kesimpulan : Pasien MAP (+) dan IMT (+) mempunyai resiko sebesar 32 kali dan 5 kali pada preeklampsia. Skrining ROT (+) tidak mempunyai hubungan dengan kejadian preeklampsia.AbstractBackground: Preeclampsia still ranks first as the cause of the high Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Surabaya from 2013-2017 at 28.92%. The high rate of preeclampsia can be prevented by conducting pre-eclampsia screening that is easy to do in the first and second trimesters by doing Mean Arterial Presure (MAP) screening, Roll Over Test (ROT), Body Mass Index (BMI) in basic health facilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between Preeclampsia Screening (MAP, ROT, BMI) performed in first trimester and second trimester pregnant women and the incidence of preeclampsia. Methods : This study was a retrospective study, case control with samples in the case group, namely preeclampsia patients during the first and second trimesters of preeclampsia screening, while for the control group, normal pregnant women who were also screened for preeclampsia in the first and second trimester. Results There was a sample of 189 pregnant women with preeclampsia for 1 year, taking samples by consecutive sampling technique. The results of the examination were obtained in the case group obtained patients with MAP (+), ROT (+), BMI (+) respectively 43 (95.6%), 18 (40%) and 18 (40%), while in the control group obtained results of 18 (40%) samples of MAP (+), 26 (57.8%) ROT (+), 5 (11.1%) BMI (+). The Chi Square statistical test results showed a significant relationship between MAP and BMI screening with the incidence of preeclampsia with p values in a row (p 0.0001, OR = 32,250 and p 0.002, OR = 5,333), but no association between ROT screening and the incidence of preeclampsia ( p 0.092 OR = 0.487). Obtained the third screening relationship (MAP, ROT, BMI) with the incidence of preeclampsia (p 0.001, OR 4,529). Conclusion: MAP (+) and BMI (+) patients have 32 times and 5 times higher risk of preeclampsia. Screening for ROT (+) has no relationship with the incidence of preeclampsia.

This study aimed to examine the pregnancy outcomes in women infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) with and without underlying diseases in western Iran. This case-control study compared 49 pregnant women with Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with underlying diseases (the case group) and 49 women with COVID-19 without underlying diseases (the control group). The groups were pregnant women with COVID-19 admitted to Hamadan hospitals for delivery. COVID-19 was diagnosed by using the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (real-time RT-PCR). Data were evaluated using a checklist. Further, the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16 was used for data analysis. A value of p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. The odds of preterm labor were five times higher in women with underlying diseases (OR=5.95, 95% CI (3.01, 7.15), p=0.034). Moreover, the odds of preeclampsia and eclampsia in women with underlying diseases was (OR=3.35, 95% CI (1.18, 4.93), p=0.048) and (OR=2.65, 95% CI (1.43, 3.54), p=0.035), respectively. The results revealed that preterm labor, preeclampsia, and eclampsia were significantly higher in women with COVID-19 and underlying diseases compared to those without underlying diseases. Thus, the need to identify and educate pregnant mothers on underlying diseases and attention to prenatal care, particularly in high-risk groups, is necessary for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cases of low birth weight (LBW) are at risk of increasing mortality and morbidity, it is necessary to identify identification of LBW incidence factors. This study analyzed the risk factors for LBW events. This research is a study consisting of two groups and case control designed with a case study design. The population is mothers who have been collected with a sample of 54 respondents divided into two case groups and a control group. Sampling in the study group with a simple random sampling technique and in the control group took samples that matched the age group so that they obtained the same number of samples between the case group and the control group. Variables published were age at pregnancy, parity, diet  and disease history, analysis of data using Odd Ratio and multivariate logistic regression (a = 0.05).Factors associated with low birth weight during pregnancy were age (p = 0.013), parity (p = 0.002), diet (p = 0.001) and disease history (p = 0.000). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that the age during pregnancy was a risk factor for LBW and the most influential factor (OR = 13,311; 95% CI 1,753-101,080). age (<20 and> 35 years) has a risk of 13 times giving birth to babies with low births compared to mothers aged 20-35 years. It is expected that the mother avoids the risk of pregnancy at age (<20 years and> 35 years) and the dissemination of related health workers about risky pregnancies to reduce the risk of LBW. Keywords : Age; parity;diet; history of disease; LBW.

ObjectivesTo assess if there is any association between hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), psychological morbidity and infant bonding and to quantify any psychosocial consequences of HG.DesignTwo-point prospective case–control, multicentre survey study with antenatal and postnatal data collection.SettingThree London hospitals.ParticipantsPregnant women at ≤12 completed weeks gestation recruited consecutively over 2 years. Women with HG were recruited at the time of admission; controls recruited from a low risk antenatal clinic. 106 women were recruited to the case group and 108 to the control. Response rates at antenatal data collection were 87% and 85% in the case and control groups, respectively. Postnatally, the response rate was 90% in both groups.Primary and secondary outcome measuresPrimary outcomes were psychological morbidity in the antenatal and postnatal periods, infant bonding in the postnatal period and psychosocial implications of HG. Secondary outcomes were the effects of severity and longevity of HG and assessment of correlation between Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale scores and maternal-to-infant bonding scores.ResultsAntenatally, 49% of cases had probable depression compared with 6% of controls (OR 14.4 (5.29 to 39.44)). Postnatally, 29% of cases had probable depression versus 7% of controls (OR 5.2 (1.65 to 17.21)). There was no direct association between HG and infant bonding. 53% of women in the HG group reported needing four or more weeks of sick leave compared with 2% in the control group (OR 60.5 (95% CI 8.4 to 2535.6)).ConclusionsLong-lasting psychological morbidity associated with HG was evident. Significantly more women in the case group sought help for mental health symptoms in the antenatal period, however very few were diagnosed with or treated for depression in pregnancy or referred to specialist perinatal mental health services. HG did not directly affect infant bonding. Women in the case group required long periods off work, highlighting the socioeconomic impact of HG.

Anaemia in pregnancy increases the risk of complications in pregnancy and childbirth, e.i. maternal death, prematurity, LBW, and perinatal mortality. Many factors cause anaemia, including when pregnant woman got exposure from tar, free radicals and carbonmonoxide contained in cigarette smoke that is inhaled directly by unintentionally. CO is directly bound in maternal hemoglobin so the ability of hemoglobin to be much greater binds CO than oxygen. Inhaling tobacco smoke in passive smoking, has far lower levels of folic acid, exposure to acid smoking causes a disruption of iron metabolism in red bloodcells. Iron very useful in the formation of hemoglobin, deficiencies of folic acid and iron can cause defects in the fetus and anaemia. Research purpose to know the incidence of anaemia in pregnant women passive smokers in Banjarmasin City Health Center 2016. Research method uses a case control study design. Population is all pregnant women in Banjarmasin City Health Center 2016. Samples were 120 people, composed of 60 cases pregnant women anaemia, and control were 60 pregnant women anaemia which doesn’t meet the criteria of inclusion and exclusion. Results showed 36 pregnant women were exposed to cigarette smoke, 24 respondents (40%) had a case group and 12 respondents (20%) in control group. There is a meaningful relationship between pregnant women passive smokers with incidence of anemia, value of p = 0.028 0.05 and OR α < 2.67 (CI-6.034 1.178). Exposure to cigarette smoke are at risk of 2.67 times against the incidence of anaemia pregnant woman than not exposed. Keywords: passive smokers, anemia in pregnancy
