Schema has been shown to influence reading and listening processes and retention of information. At the same time, it also arguably resists new information. This study aimed to find out the level of specific item recall in participants after they were given either a listening or reading input with specific altered items. It also examined the differences in the retention of participants who possessed schema of the narrative compared with those who did not possess the schema. For the specific item recall, results revealed that regardless of the type of input, the four major altered items were recalled the most. Meanwhile, the comparison between participants with schemata and without schemata showed that those with schema performed better, with participants who listened to the input and possessing schema achieving the best retention results. The results of this study highlighted the importance of narrative selection for input in teaching and learning whilst also providing evidence that cultural schema influences the type of items recalled from both types of input.

Recent advances in semantic web and deep learning technologies enable new means for the computational analysis of vast amounts of information from the field of digital humanities. We discuss how some of the techniques can be used to identify historical and cultural symmetries between different characters, locations, events or venues, and how these can be harnessed to develop new strategies to promote intercultural and cross-border aspects that support the teaching and learning of history and heritage. The strategies have been put to the test in the context of the European project CrossCult, revealing enormous potential to encourage curiosity to discover new information and increase retention of learned information.

In today’s modern world, globalization has completely changed the way of working. The way we live, learn, work, and even define work has changed due to new information and communication technologies—Hence, it can stated that human capital fuel up the modern economy. In reality, the information and communication technology revolution has turned intelligence into a valuable commodity. In today's economy, economic growth is based on mental intelligence rather than physical strength, and its worth is generated by recruiting knowledgeable workers and continuing to learn. Incorporating information and communication technology (ICT) into vocational and technical education and the educational system in general has a vast range of consequences on teaching and learning.

Abstract: Teaching and learning process is constantly transforming due to the ever-increasing globalization. In the educational sector the use of information and communication technology (ICT) is constantly changing due to the increasing trend in globalization. This has resulted in the change and transformation the facet of education in this 21st century. The various usage of technologies and other forms of learning materials that have been extensively used has created a medium where students able to be interactive because it is learner centred, and the environment of online learning is more open and flexible. However, several studies showed that students prefer traditional classroom more because they would prefer face-to-face communication with their instructor. Thus, this study intends to explore the perspective of learning listening and speaking using online among L2 learners. A total number of 102 university students at UiTM Perak Branch took part in this study. They were instructed to answer a set of questionnaires which was created using google document. From the findings the students reported that they do see the benefits of online learning. In addition, they found learning through this interactive medium as interesting and provide them space to progress at their own pace in learning. However, this does not portray students’ eagerness in which may be due to several factors.  This study is hoped to able to highlight the positive aspects of using online as an alternative to the traditional way of teaching listening and speaking.    Keywords: Interactive Learning, Listening Skill, Online Learning, Second language learners, Speaking Skill.

Significant investments are being made in the application of new information and communications technologies (ICT) to teaching and learning in higher education. However, until recently, there has been little progress in devising an integrated costbenefit model that decision-makers can use to appraise ICT investment options from the wider institutional perspective. This paper describes and illustrates a model that has been developed to enable evaluations of the costs and benefits of the use of ICT. The strengths and limitations of the model are highlighted and discussed DOI:10.1080/0968776030110205

The purpose of this article is research are to describe the characteristics of: 1) the learning facilities planning; 2) the utilities of learning facilities; and 3) the maintenance of learning facilities at Primary School to facilitate the teaching and learning process. The data collecting method was done using in-depth interviewing, observation, and document techniques. The data analysis was done using single case analysis design. The analysis design selection for qualitative research conveys three main components, namely data reduction, data display, and verification. The data validity is done using triangulation, key informant review and member-check techniques. The learning facilities controlling strategies were done by teacher that specifically assigned to manage the schools learning facilities; and 3) the learning facilities maintenance of multimedia laboratory was done cooperatively with the computer suplier by special contract system. It is done with the effectivity consideration so that the teacher may focus their attention in teaching and learning process and the facilities were ready to be used at any time.

Nicotiana alata Link and Otto (Jasmine tobacco) was transformed with an autoregulated senescence-inhibition gene construct PSAG12-IPT encoding isopentenyl transferase via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Transformation was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction. Transgenic plants exhibited up to 2- to 4-fold fewer senesced leaves, 29% longer in situ flower life, 26% more shoot dry weight, and a 32% to 50% reduction in flowers per branch. Additionally, transgenics were 28% shorter and had up to 174% more branches, indicative of cytokinin overproduction and a lack of tight autoregulation of PSAG12-IPT. Variation among independent transgenics suggests selection for enhanced PSAG12-IPT is feasible. Our observations of increased branching and in situ flower longevity, as well as reduced plant height and flowers per branch provide new information on PSAG12-IPT and its potential value for biological study and horticultural application.

This final project aimed to investigate the washback of English National Standardized School Examination on Ninth Graders and Teachers. The research used descriptive qualitative method as its research methodology. The results showed that English National Standardized School Examination or Ujian Sekolah Berstandar Nasional (USBN) brought positive and negative effect. The students applied some learning strategies to develop their reading and writing skills to face English USBN. However, they gave less attention to listening and speaking skills. Also, the students focused to get good result on the examination because it determined their graduation and their higher level school. The teachers prepare the students to take the examination by taught the material more thoroughly. They used various sources and media to support the teaching and learning activities. However, they gave less attention on listening and speaking skills and lose instructional time. To summarize, there were trends of positive and negative washback of English USBN on the students and teacher at SMP N 1 Kertek in academic year of 2018/2019.

Analogies between old and new concepts are common during classroom instruction. Previous transfer studies focused on how features of initial learning guide later, spontaneous transfer to new problem solving. We argue for a shift in the focus of analogical-transfer research toward understanding how to best support analogical transfer from previous learning when children are engaged in new learning episodes. Such research may have important implications for teaching and learning in mathematics, which relies heavily on analogies between old and new information. Some existing research promotes supporting explicit connections across old and new information within an analogy. Alternatively, we argue that teachers can invite implicit analogical reasoning through warm-up activities designed to activate relevant prior knowledge. Warm-up activities close the transfer space between old and new learning without additional direct instruction.
