- In this paper we discuss the results of a research program that was aimed at analysing of the situational context in which the interpersonal exchange has place the role in mediating the passage from the reception to the "use" of mass-media preventive information. The study consisted in 32 focus groups with young people (18-25 years old), on different topics related to health risks (HIV/AIDS, Alcool, smoking, light drugs), in 4 different situational contexts (face-to-face; on-line forum; on-line chat; on-line forum+chat). The study main evidences show that the different contexts of the exchange specifically influence the interpersonal "re-use" of mass-media preventive information. In particular the forum+chat seems to be the context that best orients the preventive message elaboration in the sense of a personal revision of one own's unsafe practices.Key words: health communication; social exchange; context of the exchange; Internet; qualitative research; focus groupParole chiave: comunicazione alla salute; scambio sociale; contesto di scambio; Internet; ricerca qualitativa; focus group

This paper reports on the inclusion of an oral component of assessment in science at two tertiary institutions in South Africa. The purpose of this paper is not to report on the results of the assessments conducted, but to focus on some of the unexpected rewards of conducting qualitative research in assessment. Using focus group discussions within a qualitative framework allowed me insights into the thoughts and experiences of the students and assessors, making the benefits of oral assessment apparent. These benefits included how assessment can be used as a learning opportunity, the advantages of homogeneous versus heterogeneous groups, and the benefits of face-to-face interaction, all of which led to improved relationships between students and assessors.

This article summarizes the main results of an investigation that is part of a project regarding the construction of youth and gender identity in television fiction. The methodology integrates reception analysis (focus group) with data obtained through an anonymous questionnaire, designed to contextualize the results of the qualitative research. Television fiction is the favourite macro-genre of young people, especially women. Broadly speaking, participants appreciate the greater proximity of Spanish fiction, which favours the different mechanisms of identification/projection activated during the reception process, and they acknowledge that TV fiction has a certain didactic nature. The research highlights the more intimate nature of female reception compared to the detachment of the male viewer, who watches fiction less frequently and assimilates it as pure entertainment. Age influences the different modes of reception, while the social class and origin of participants hardly have any impact. Confident, rebellious and ambivalent characters are found to be more interesting than the rest. By contrast, the structure of the story and a major part of the topics addressed by the programme are usually consigned to oblivion, highlighting the importance of selective memory in the interpretative process, as well as suggesting the limited nature of the effects of television fiction.

<p><em></em><em>The religious counselor has an important role in society as an agent of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia in transforming community. However, in the reality, as a community motivator, its class is far less important than the private motivators such as Mario Teguh, Abdullah Gymnastiar and his ESQ method, Christian Andrianto, Hermawan Kartajaya,Gede Prama, Krisnamurti, Guenta K., Andrie Wongso and so forth. This is a qualitative research using an in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), observation and document study in collecting data. The results show: the first, the religious counselor developed a face to face model for their communication with their clients which is to some extent less sophisticated. In addition, this method does not follow people’s needs and development of technology. Furthermore, they are mostly working with religious group, except some religious counselors in Manado who tried to enhance their work into wider society </em></p>

ABSTRACTThe mass media and multitasking (Piscitelli, 2009) society requires from the manager to consider the relationship and impact of what his brand communicates. The design of online communicative strategies and their link to consultancy models (Pfefferman, 2011) – where the manager himself becomes the entrepreneur of his own organization — becomes the strength of the branding communication of the organization (Capriotti, P., 2009). The paper exposes the research findings obtained from the study done with small and medium enterprisess (SMEs) in Medellin and Bogotá (Colombia). This qualitative research examines the organizations capabilities toward the appropriation of opportunities on behalf of digital communication. Finally it makes a consultancy proposal addressed to pymes entrepreneurs from the perspective which considers the “Enterprise as a sign and as a semiosis”. It is claimed that if something is not communicated it will not generate any reminder at the level of the client. The results research -which compiles Medellin and Bogotá data- are published upon two products: A book to the organizational communication field, and a multimedia guide to business owners.

AbstractMass media has reached a very important place in our society as first order socialization agents, to the point that if something doesn’t appear in them, it’s invisible to public opinion. In drug issue, they’re usually used as principal information source, especially for young people, consequently his influence capability is determinant. In this sense mass media not only inform about news, they represent a powerful tool in the knowledge transmission of drug issue. However, the partial or “out of context” vision that media offers about drug consumption and the lack of rigor in the information exposure are responsible for a disinformation in recipients and a deterioration of the credibility in this kind of information. This pilot study was done with a sample of 115 university students at first year of Psychology. A questionnaire ad hoc was used to measure the young people information level about different abuse substances and credibility related to information sources that they usually consult to obtain general information about drugs. This questionnaire was administrated on-line. A descriptive and transversal design was used. In conclusion, we can emphasize that doesn’t exist any media with enough credibility and reliability in information with significant results. Keywords Mass media; drug addiction; level of credibility; information; youngs.

Starting from a review of current dominant points of view about online focus groups, the authors outline the results of a research project in which they compared face-to-face discussion groups with different formats of online focus groups (forum; chat; forum plus chat) in order to identify their methodological specificities. The comparison was conducted with young adults on three health-related topics with different levels of social sensitivity. Systematic analysis of the conversational and thematic characteristics of all discussion transcripts revealed interesting characteristics of the four focus group techniques considered. The results corroborate the view that the research setting influences the findings production process in qualitative research, and might be the basis for a theory of online focus group techniques that can orient the researcher in choosing the online focus group technique best suited to his or her study aims and topics.

ABSTRACT Radio broadcast continues to play a role in the distribution of information through its broadcast programs. As a mass media radio broadcasts not only have a function as an entertainment medium with songs that are played, but also have a function to educate and convey information. So the existence of journalists in each radio broadcast becomes an obligation. But in practice, this journalist function is not only attached to those who seek information in the field, but also those who work in the studio as broadcasters and program producers. As a mass media with a variety of program formats, radio broadcasts have diverse needs for beginner journalists. There are those who require the beginning journalist to only have sound quality and good announcing techniques, but not a few who require the beginning journalist to have good general knowledge, perseverance, and sometimes the appearance is also one of the things considered. The reason is that journalists also represent the radio, especially for those who work outside the studio. In this study, we used descriptive qualitative research. The study was conducted to broadcast radio managers with the segmentation of young people in West Java, represented by Ardan Bandung (representing greater Bandung), Radio eMDiKey (representing Priangan Timur), Radio Pilar (representing Cirebon dsk). We consider these three regions capable of representing West Java. The results of this study indicate that the qualifications of beginner journalists on radio are more emphasized in their attitude and militancy in the field. Regarding the relevance of formal education that has been taken by prospective journalists is not the main problem. The average implements re-adjustment (training) before actually being adopted as a crew on broadcast radio. The physical appearance factor is one that is considered even though it is not the main one. Keywords: radio, journalists, young people, West Java   ABSTRAK Radio siaran terus memainkan peran dalam distribusi informasi melalui program siarannya.
