This article explores and attempts to resolve some issues that arise when at stake is the need to harmonize philosophical hermeneutics with a kind of realist philosophy of science. The author takes issue with established position in the realism-antirealism controversy. Interventionism is criticized for a residual Cartesian dualism. Cognitive relativism is debated by developing a concept of situated transcendence in the constitution of objects of inquiry. Non-behaviorist arguments against scheme-content dualism are advanced that appeal to context- sensitive theory of meaning. Social constructivism is rejected for the hypostatization of epistemic positions. The article suggests a model of the constitution of meaning. It undertakes an attempt at demonstrating how the integration of this model in a hermeneutic philosophy of science leads to realism without epistemological representationalism, foundationalism, and cognitive essentialism. The article is oriented toward a new dialogue between hermeneutic phenomenology and a holistic epistemology.

This paper is an illustration of the application of a hermeneutic phenomenological study. The theory of meaning and interpretation, drawing on philosophical hermeneutics and the work of Gadamer and Heidegger, and its alignment with phenomenological thought is presented. The paper explains and aims to make visible how key concerns in relation to the fusion of horizons, hermeneutic understanding, hermeneutic circle and hermeneutic phenomenological attitude were implemented. The purpose is to provide practical guidance and illustrate a fully worked up example of hermeneutic phenomenological work as research praxis. This present paper makes a case that hermeneutic phenomenological work is detailed, lengthy, rigorous and systematic in its own philosophical and theoretical frame. It articulates the philosophical and methodological alignment of hermeneutics in a specific hermeneutic phenomenological study and makes visible the work of hermeneutic phenomenology. It concludes by sharing key reflections and insights on the hermeneutic phenomenological process.

This chapter argues that a meta-theoretical approach to sources opens reflexive spaces, situates theories in time and space, and allows for a contextual interpretation of sources. Drawing on the hermeneutic philosophy of Hans-Georg Gadamer and the writings of his most perceptive readers in international law, the chapter develops a concept of reflexive situatedness. Following the traces of international law’s current ‘turn to interpretation’ and a reading of international law as ‘hermeneutical enterprise’, the chapter’s assessment of the limits and potentials of Gadamerian philosophical hermeneutics prepares the ground for an analysis of the writings of international lawyers who have developed theories of international legal interpretation inspired by his work. Gadamer’s conversational hermeneutics moreover opens new perspectives for a contextual theory and praxis of international legal interpretation. Such would allow for a more nuanced and dynamic understanding of sources and their interpreters within their respective interpretative communities.

Hermeneutics as a method of interpretation is still a controversial debate among Muslim intellectuals, especially its application in the study of the Qur'an. A method that is a contribution of Western scholars is considered by some circles of thinkers can be an alternative and guarantee in understanding and reveal the intent behind the text of a verse. However, according to Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi one of the leaders of ISTAC, hermeneutics is a threat to Islamic thought and civilization , even as a conspiratorial agent of the West over Islam. He saw three things that influence hermeneutics as an interpretative theory namely, first, from Greek mythology to Jewish and Christian theology. Second, from a problematic Christian theology to the rationalization and philosophy movement. Third, from philosophical hermeneutics to hermeneutic philosophy. Based on these three things, according to Hamid Fahmy, hermeneutics is full of values and "Incompatible" with the worldview of Islam, so the need to see hermeneutics in the context of life view. In this research, the writer will conduct a more critical and "objective" study, see the plus-minus of Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi's view of the hermeneutic concept he assumed as a product of life view. Some of the questions on which this hermeneutics concept is based on Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi's concept of hermeneutics and its implications in the study of the Qur'an? What influenced Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi's thinking, thus viewing hermeneutics as a concept that contradicts the Islamic worldview?
