The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mechanical properties of kevlar fiber and jute fiber reinforcement. Nowadays the composite materials are widely used materials. Having wide range of applications due to its light weight, high strength and low cost. These composite materials are now being explored in applications of aerospace and automotive industries. In the present work, the composite material is prepared with intermediate aramid fabric layer (Kevlar) which is high strength fiber and it is combined with jute fabric reinforced epoxy composite to increase the strength of kevlar. This composite material is tested for mechanical properties like flexural, tensile & impact strength are calculated with UTM (universal testing machine) for flexural, tensile tests and impact testing is done with impact testing machine. Through this test results the impact strength of the composite material is calculated. The energy dissipation by impact test of jute and kevlar fabric composite and strength of fibers will be analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Thermo gravity analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) is carried out. Through these test results it can conclude that the jute can be combined with the kevlar where the impact is primary considerations like bulletproof vests, automobile bodies, tyres etc. The usage of jute in all kevlar applications will increase the strength of kevlar by reducing the usage of Kevlar and cost will be minimized.

Due to the unique properties of polymer composites, these materials are used in many industries, including shipbuilding (hulls of boats, yachts, motorboats, cutters, ship and cooling doors, pontoons and floats, torpedo tubes and missiles, protective shields, antenna masts, radar shields, and antennas, etc.). Modern measurement methods and tools allow to determine the properties of the composite material, already during its design. The article presents the use of the method of acoustic emission and Kolmogorov-Sinai (K-S) metric entropy to determine the mechanical properties of composites. The tested materials were polyester-glass laminate without additives and with a 10% content of polyester-glass waste. The changes taking place in the composite material during loading were visualized using a piezoelectric sensor used in the acoustic emission method. Thanks to the analysis of the RMS parameter (root mean square of the acoustic emission signal), it is possible to determine the range of stresses at which significant changes occur in the material in terms of its use as a construction material. In the K-S entropy method, an important measuring tool is the extensometer, namely the displacement sensor built into it. The results obtained during the static tensile test with the use of an extensometer allow them to be used to calculate the K-S metric entropy. Many materials, including composite materials, do not have a yield point. In principle, there are no methods for determining the transition of a material from elastic to plastic phase. The authors showed that, with the use of a modern testing machine and very high-quality instrumentation to record measurement data using the Kolmogorov-Sinai (K-S) metric entropy method and the acoustic emission (AE) method, it is possible to determine the material transition from elastic to plastic phase. Determining the yield strength of composite materials is extremely important information when designing a structure.

Composite material is a material that has a multi-phase system composed of reinforcing materials and matrix materials. Causes the composite materials to have advantages in various ways such as low density, high mechanical properties, performance comparable to metal, corrosion resistance, and easy to fabricate. In the marine and fisheries industry, composite materials made from fiber reinforcement, especially fiberglass, have proven to be very special and popular in boat construction because they have the advantage of being chemically inert (both applied in general and marine environments), light, strong, easy to print, and price competitiveness. Thus in this study, tensile and impact methods were used to determine the mechanical properties of fiberglass polymer composite materials. Each test is carried out on variations in the amount of fiberglass laminate CSM 300, CSM 450 and WR 600 and variations in weight percentage 99.5% -0.5%, 99% -1%, 98.5% -1, 5%, 98% -2% and 97.5%-2.5% have been used. The results showed that the greater the number of laminates, the greater the impact strength, which was 413,712 MPa, and the more the percentage of hardener, the greater the impact strength, which was 416,487 MPa. The results showed that the more laminate the tensile strength increased, which was 87.054 MPa, and the more the percentage of hardener, the lower the tensile strength, which was 73.921 MPa.

Elephant dung is an excellent source of cellulosic fiber that is a basic requirement for paper making. But they contributed to very small percentage production of elephant dung. So, researchers are trying to find a new area of utilization of elephant dung fiber pulp as in reinforcement’s polymer composite. In this experiment element dung fiber pulp in the natural fiber component chemically treated with alkaline and soda AQ solution in this study, it has been aimed to use elephant dung fiber pulp in composite material and to study mechanical properties of the produced material. The produced composite samples were then characterized using tensile test, Izod impact test, thickness test. The fracture surface of the polymer composite sample was also inspected with the help of SEM. The content of elephant dung fiber pulp is varied (35%, 45%, 55%) weight percentage whereas the epoxy resin is varied (50%, 40%, 30%) percentage is kept constant 15% in hardener. The entire sample has been tested in a universal testing machine as per ASTM standard for tensile strength and impact strength. It is observed that composite with 35% fiber pulp is having the highest tensile strength of 4mm 6.445 Mpa and 8mm 11.80 Mpa. The impact strength of composite with 35% fiber pulp washes highest than 45% to 55% dung fiber pulp. This produces composite sheet will be used for the surfboards, sporting goods, building panel this not only reduces the cost but also save from environmental pollution.

Abstract Studies described in this paper relate to common grades of cast corrosion resistant Cr-Ni steel with different matrix. The test materials were subjected to heat treatment, which consisted in the solution annealing at 1060°C followed by cooling in water. The conducted investigations, besides the microstructural characteristics of selected cast steel grades, included the evaluation of hardness, toughness (at a temperature of -40 and +20oC) and type of fracture obtained after breaking the specimens on a Charpy impact testing machine. Based on the results of the measured volume fraction of ferrite, it has been found that the content of this phase in cast austenitic steel is 1.9%, while in the two-phase ferritic-austenitic grades it ranges from 50 to 58%. It has been demonstrated that within the scope of conducted studies, the cast steel of an austenitic structure is characterised by higher impact strength than the two-phase ferritic-austenitic (F-A) grade. The changing appearance of the fractures of the specimens reflected the impact strength values obtained in the tested materials. Fractures of the cast austenitic Cr-Ni steel obtained in these studies were of a ductile character, while fractures of the cast ferritic-austenitic grade were mostly of a mixed character with the predominance of brittle phase and well visible cleavage planes.

Due to the significant properties of silica, thermostatics can be enhanced using silica-additives to maximize the quality of polymer compounds and transform plastics into tailored properties. The silica additives can enhance the handling and quality performance of composites and thermoplastic polymers due to their diverse potential. Besides, using silica as an additive in different characteristics can allow granulates and powders to flow easily, minimize caking, and control rheology. On the other hand, the eruption of 3D printing technology has led to a massive new waste source of plastics, especially the polylactic acid (PLA) that is associated with the fused deposition modeling (FDM) process. In this paper, the impact on the mechanical properties when silica is mixed with waste PLA from 3D printing was studied. The PLA/silica mixtures were prepared using different blends through twin extruders and a Universal Testing Machine was used for the mechanical characterization. The result indicated that increasing silica composition resulted in the increase of the tensile strength to 121.03 MPa at 10 wt%. Similar trends were also observed for the toughness, ductility, and the yield stress values of the PLA/silica blends at 10 wt%, which corresponds to the increased mechanical property of the composite material reinforced by the silica particles. Improvement in the mechanical properties of the developed composite material promotes the effective recycling of PLA from applications such as 3D printing and the potential of reusing it in the same application.

A pendulum-impact testing machine was developed to measure the impact strength of ball-grid-array (BGA) solder joints between an electronic package and a circuit board. Ball solders were connected to daisy-chain between a dummy electronic package and a circuit board. The upper side of the package was directly bonded to a load cell. The rear side of the circuit board was also bonded to an aluminum alloy block fixed on a base. A pendulum made of aluminum alloy was collided into the load cell to apply tensile impact to the solder joints through the load cell. The history of the impact load could be controlled by raising the angle of the pendulum. The fracture of a BGA solder joint was detected by measuring the resistance of the daisy-chain circuit on the board. Therefore, the impact strengths of the solder joints at electrical disconnection and mechanical breaking of all joints could be determined. The experimental results showed that this method is useful for measuring the impact strength of BGA solder joints.

This paper focuses on the influence on the mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite / poly-hydroxybutyrate (HA / PHB) composites by different HA contents, and the effect of Silane coupling agent on improving the interface of HA/PHB composite materials. The HA/PHB composites were prepared by ball milling, hot-pressing, the HA content were 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30wt%, respectively. Silane coupling agent was used for HA surface treatment in HA/PHB composites to compare with not having HA surface treatment in HA/PHB composite materials. The impact strength and flexural strength of HA / PHB composites were tested, and the microstructure of the fracture surface was observed by SEM. The results showed that HA could enhance the bending strength of HA/PHB composites. With HA content increased, the bending strength increased first and then decreased, when the HA content was 10wt%, the maximum bending strength reached 32.74MPa, increased about 41% comparing with pure PHB. Silane coupling agent can improve the interface of HA / PHB, then enhance the mechanical strength. When the HA content was 15wt%, the maximum bending strength reached 46.6MPa, Increased about 56% comparing with the same proportion of untreated HA/PHB composite material, and about double comparing with pure PHB.

In this work, epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) is used to improve the impact strength of poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The natural rubber with poly (3-trimethoxysilyl propyl methacrylate) core-shell (adNR), prepared by admicellar polymerization, is used as the compatibilizer for PMMA/ENR blends which were prepared through melt mixing in a twin screw extruder. The effects of ENR and adNR contents on impact property were investigated by pendulum impact tester. The impact strength increased with ENR and adNR contents. The morphology on the fracture surfaces were demonstrated by using field emission electron microscope (FE-SEM), which showed the compatibility between ENR, adNR and PMMA. Furthermore, the effects of ENR and adNR contents on dynamic and mechanical properties were examined by dynamic mechanical analyzer and universal testing machine, respectively. The results illustrated that the incorporation of the adNR affected the dynamic and mechanical properties of the blends.
