The scale of wind power plants is increasing continuously in Vietnam. The installed capacity of the largest wind farm is about 50MW by the end of this year. Therefore, power system planners will need to study their impact onthe power system in more detail. Wind energy conversion systems are very different in nature from conventional generators. Therefore dynamic studies must be addressed in order to integrate wind power into the power system. The impact of this wind power on voltage distribution levels has been addressed in the literatures. The majority of this work deals with the determination of the maximum active and reactive power that is possible to be connected on a system load bus, until the voltage at that bus reaches the voltage collapse point. This article introduces the methods of research standards, evaluation criteria of stable electricity supply; it identifies the centers of loads and focuses on the branch is "weak" in small signal stability to improve operational efficiency, reliability in electricity power supply.

Renewable Energy especially wind energy integration has attained profound growth across the worldwide power system. Wind energy integration at large scale comes up with the challenge on voltages and reactive power management at power system level. The research work presented in this paper has analyzed the impact of wind energy on reactive power reserve with special reference to Hebei Southern Power System. The maximum wind power integration capacity is calculated, and the effect of increasing wind power integration on voltage profiles is studied. Possible controls from system sides and its effects on wind power integration are explored. Study shows that with the increase of the wind power integration capacity, the intermittency and variation will bring more serious problems to the system frequency regulation, reserve service and voltage control. These problems also become the limiting factors for further increase of large-scale wind power integration. In order to make a better use of wind power resources in Heibei province and maintain system safety at the same time, further research should be performed on exploring the reactive and active power regulation and control of the wind farm and the methods to decrease the variability of wind farm outputs.

Wind power plants are an increasingly common source of electricity located in rural areas. As a result of the high variability of wind power, and thus the generated power, these sources should be classified as unstable sources. In this paper, the authors attempted to determine the impact of wind turbine operation on the parameters of electricity supplied to farms located near the source. As a result of the conducted field tests, variability courses of the basic parameters describing the supply voltage were obtained. The influence of power plant variability on the values of voltage, frequency, and voltage distortion factor was determined. To estimate the capacity of the transmission lines, the reactive power produced in the power plant and its effect on the value of the power factor were determined. The conducted research and analysis showed that the wind power plant significantly influences voltage fluctuations in its immediate vicinity (the maximum value registered was close to 2%, while the value required by law was 2.5%). Although all the recorded values are within limits specified by the current regulations (e.g., the THD value is four times lower than the required value), wind turbines may cause incorrect operation of loads connected nearby. This applies mainly to cases where consumers sensitive to voltage fluctuations are installed in the direct vicinity of the power plant.

Wind power generation has increased very rapidly in the past few years. The total U.S. wind power capacity by the end of 2001 was 4,260 megawatts. As wind power capacity increases, it becomes increasingly important to study the impact of wind farm output on the surrounding power networks. In this paper, we attempt to simulate a wind farm by including the properties of the wind turbine, the wind speed time series, the characteristics of surrounding power network, and reactive power compensation. Mechanical stress and fatigue load of the wind turbine components are beyond the scope this paper. The paper emphasizes the impact of the wind farms on the electrical side of the power network. A typical wind farm with variable speed wind turbines connected to an existing power grid is investigated. Different control strategies for feeding wind energy into the power network are investigated, and the advantages and disadvantages are presented.

Increasing penetration level of wind power integration has a significant impact on low-frequency oscillations of power systems. Based on PSD-BPA simulation software, time domain simulation analysis and eigenvalue analysis are employed to investigate its effect on power system low-frequency oscillation characteristic in an outward transmitting thermal generated power bundled with wind power illustrative power system. System damping enhances markedly and the risk of low-frequency oscillation reduce when the generation of wind farm increase. In addition, dynamic reactive power compensations apply to wind farm, and the simulation result indicates that it can improve dynamic stability and enhance the system damping.

This paper mainly studies wind power fluctuations how to affect voltage stability after the wind power grid integration, and reactive power compensation equipment on improving effect. In certain parts of the wind farm, for example, firstly, analyzing the wind farm reactive power problems. Then introduce the reactive power compensation equipment that used in the wind farm. Finally, with PSCAD software, making a simulation analysis about the influence on the power grid voltage according to adopting the different reactive power compensation devices or not.

In this paper, starting from the active network loss formulas and wind characteristics, it is pointed out the reactive power loss and reactive flow is the major impact of wind power integration on power system loss. The reactive power loss formulas of box-type transformer, main step-up transformer, wind farm collector line and connecting grid line are analyzed. Next the reactive power loss of transformer and transmission line is described in detail. Then put forward the loss reduction measures that installing SVC on the low voltage side of the main step-up transformer and making the doubly-fed wind generators send out some reactive power at an allowed power factor. Use the case of Gansu Qiaodong wind farm to verify the effectiveness of the proposed measures.

The objective of this paper is to perform a hybrid design for an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to improve the dynamic voltage stability of a grid-connected wind power system. An onshore 99.2MW wind farm using Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is studied. To compensate the reactive power absorbed from the power grid of the wind farm, a Static VAR Compensator (SVC) is proposed. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed hybrid PSO–ANFIS controller, simulations of the voltage response in time-domain are performed in Matlab to evaluate the effectiveness of the designed controller. From the results, it can be concluded that the proposed hybrid PSO-optimized ANFIS-based model can be applied to enhance the dynamic voltage stability of the studied grid-connected wind power system.

Small signal stability analysis for power systems with wind farm interaction is presented. Power systems oscillation modes can be excited by disturbance or fault in the grid. Variable speed wind turbines can be regulated to reduce these oscillations, stabilising the power system. A power system stabiliser (PSS) control loop for wind power is designed in order to increase the damping of the oscillation modes. The proposed power system stabiliser controller is evaluated by small signal analysis.

With the continuous improvement of wind power penetration, the impact of the random fluctuation characteristics of wind power on the frequency control of the power system is growing. Currently, researchers began to study the methods of wind farms participation in frequency control to reduce the frequency adjustment pressure of other power plants and increase the wind power penetration. However, the existing simulation software for the short and long term frequency control of the power system is not so good. So in order to analyze the impact of load fluctuations or wind farm power fluctuations on system frequency control, this paper propose a frequency fluctuation simulation method based on the quasi-steady-state method.
