Gastric cancer, as a malignant epithelial tumor, is a major health threat leading to poor overall survival and death. It is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage due to asymptomatic or only nonspecific early symptoms. The present study demonstrated that gankyrin contributes to the early malignant transformation of gastric cancer and can be selected to predict the risk of gastric cancer in those patients harboring the precancerous lesions (dysplasia and intestinal metaplasia). In addition, a new insight into gastric cancer was provided, which stated that gankyrin alleviates oxidative stress via mTORC1 pathway activation. It can potentiate the mTORC1 by PGK1-AKT signaling that promotes the tumor process, and this phenomenon is not completely consistent with the previous report describing colorectal cancer.

Of 279 tumors collected from cattle from 1964 to 1971 the commonest malignant epithelial tumor was liver cell carcinoma. It occurred in 0.014% of slaughtered cattle and in 0.081% of slaughtered cows. The concurrence of carcinoma and biliary cirrhosis in all our cases where there was damage caused by Fasciola hepatica suggests a causal pathogenetic relationship. This could also explain the frequent localisation of carcinoma in the left lobe, which is often the site of most damage in fascioliasis.

ABSTRACT Introduction CA 19-9 is used as a tumor marker in colon, pancreas, biliary, and gastric cancers. Laryngeal cancer is the most common malignant epithelial tumor among head and neck cancers and has no specific tumor marker. Case report A 66-year-old male patient had severe reflux symptoms during 5 years and had an isolated CA 19-9 elevation. Follow-up analysis revealed that he had larynx cancer and after laryngectomy, CA 19-9 levels decreased to normal range. Discussion Currently, CA 19-9 is not a marker for malignancy. Laryngeal carcinoma has no specific tumor marker, but laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma may be manifested by elevated CA 19-9 levels. A rare clinical case of a malignant epithelial tumor in an adolescent, 16 old — mucinous adenocarcinoma of the colon with invasion of the intestinal wall, growth into the mesentery, retroperitoneal space and regional lymph node is presented. The article presents data on epidemiology, features of the clinical course, predisposing factors in malignant epithelial tumors of the gastrointestinal tract in children and adolescents.

A 12-year-old male English Pointer was examined due to a soft-tissue swelling at the medial canthus of the right orbital region, which was causing facial deformity. The dog had epiphora, purulent nasal discharge, epistaxis, dyspnea, and progressive weight loss. An intraoral mass was observed near the right maxillary premolars. Neoplastic disease was diagnosed based on ancillary tests, which included blood work, skull and intraoral radiographs, ocular ultrasonography and computed tomography. Histopathology revealed transitional carcinoma involving the nasal and oral cavities, maxilla, bony orbit and retrobulbar space. Nasal tumors represent approximately 2% of all tumors diagnosed in this species. Transitional carcinoma is the second most common type of malignant epithelial tumor in the nasal sinuses. This case illustrates the extensive destruction of the soft and bony tissues of the face, including the bony orbit that this type of tumor can cause.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the lacrimal gland is a rare disease, but it is the most common malignant epithelial tumor of the lacrimal gland, with poor prognosis. ACC of the lacrimal gland is notorious for its slow growth and tendency to recur despite surgical therapy and following radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. This tumor type occasionally metastasize via haematogenous spread to lungs, brain and bone in decreasing order of frequency. When it happens, metastases are always multiple and wide. We report a case of a 28-year young man followed in our Hospital with ACC of right lacrimal gland resected on April 2014 and treated with surgery followed by post-operative radiotherapy (50Gy total dose). After one years of follow-up, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan reported multiple lytic lesions in distant bones specially to multiple sites of vertebral column. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) confirmed metastasis of ACC. No evidence of other loco-regional or distant metastasis were described. Patient was treated with chemotherapy. After treatment, patient is actually in close follow up.Faridpur Med. Coll. J. Jul 2015;10(2): 84-86

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant epithelial tumor in the oral cavity. Emerging evidence has demonstrated the important function roles of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in human cancers. LncRNA promoter of CDKN1A antisense DNA damage activated RNA (PANDAR) functions as an oncogene in multiple carcinomas, whereas its function in OSCC has not been investigated yet. The aim of our study is to investigate the possible regulatory mechanism of PANDAR in OSCC. First of all, PANDAR was highly expressed in OSCC cells and loss-of-function assays mediated by CRISPR-dCas9 observed that PANDAR silencing restrained cell proliferation and promoted cell apoptosis. Then we found and confirmed the interaction between PANDAR and serine and arginine rich splicing factor 7 (SRSF7). Subsequently, serine/threonine-protein kinase pim-1 (PIM1) was proved to be regulated by PANDAR in SRSF7-dependant way. Rescue experiments validated that PANDAR modulated the proliferation and apoptosis in OSCC through PIM1. In conclusion, PANDAR bound with SRSF7 to increase PIM1 expression, hence promoting the development of OSCC. These data shed new lights into the seeking for effective diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for OSCC patients.

Sinonasal adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare malignant epithelial tumor characterized by slow growth, multiple local recurrences, and perineural invasion; surgery followed by radiotherapy provides the best overall survival by means of an endoscopic, craniofacial, or combined approach. We present a previously undescribed case of frontal sinus adenoid cystic carcinoma involving the subcutaneous tissue and the dura mater treated with an open technique, free flap reconstruction, and hadron therapy together with a summary of the state of the art.

Malignant tumors of nasopharyngeal epithelium differ clinically depending on the course of disease and applied therapy. They are presented in regard to the sex, age, smoking habits, alcohol usage and nutrition factors. Various studies already showed various etiological-causal links with Epstein- Barr virus (EBV). This leads to diversity of various morphological and histological types of diseases belonging to various classifications. In this work we presented 60 diagnosed and treated cases with malignant tumor of nasopharyngeal epithelium in the Institute for Otorynolaringology and maxillofacial surgery of Clinical Center of Serbia. All of them were pato-histologicaly examined and 24 of them received serological examination in regard to the concept of association between malignant epithelial tumor and EBV. An important correlation between histopathology and serology was found. Finally, the terminology used by WHO classification is not optimal for further histological determination of nasopharyngeal malignancy; therefore we recommend the French classification of C. Micheaua.
