The aim of this research is to highlight the importance of Translation Studies as a proper discipline in educational institutions of Pakistan. The analysis has been done by conducting a questionnaire survey, gathering responses from the students of acknowledged educational institutions, both public and private. The findings suggest rather mixed views of the students about Translation and Translation Studies in general. While most of the participants have a clear idea that translation is something beyond mere paragraph translation and reading translated literature, they view translation as not necessarily a part of Humanities students’ curriculum. Most of the participants have never found an opportunity to take a translation related course; whereas, they are interested in taking one. However, there were only one to two students who could name an institution that offers a translation studies degree. The majority of the students are also aware of the translational processes around them while using social media or reading print media and are able to identify them. On the whole, this research tries to identify the current situation of translation studies in Pakistan, and at the end some recommendations have been given to improve the situation of Translation Studies in Pakistan because Translation Studies is the ultimate requirement for the progress and development in the field of academics. The world has understood this; Pakistan needs to do the same.

BackgroundSocial media (SM) are forms of information and communication technology disseminated through social interaction. SM rely upon peer-to-peer (P2P) networks that are collaborative, decentralized, and community-driven transforming people from content consumers into content producers. The role of SM in disaster management galvanized during the world response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake. (Pew 2010) During the immediate aftermath, much of what people around the world were learning about the earthquake originated from SM sources. (Nielsenwire 2010) During the first 2 weeks following the earthquake, “texting” mobile phone users donated over $25 million to the American Red Cross. (Sysomos 2010) Both public and private response agencies used Google Maps™. Millions joined MySpace™ and Facebook ™discussion groups to share information, donate money, and offer support. SM has also been described as “remarkably well organized, self correcting, accurate and concentrated”, calling into question the ingrained view of unidirectional, official-to-public information broadcasts. (Sutton, et al 2008) SM may also offer potential psychological benefit for vulnerable populations gained through participation as stakeholders in the response. (Sutton, et al 2008) (Laor 2003)DiscussionHowever, widespread use of SM also involves several important challenges for disaster management. Although SM is growing rapidly, it remains less widespread and accessible than traditional media. Also, public officials often view person to person communications as “backchannels” with potential to spread misinformation and rumor. (Akre 2010) In addition, in absence of the normal checks and balances that regulate traditional media, privacy rights violations can occur as people use SM to describe personal events and circumstances. Entrepreneurship, over the last 20 years, has been of vital importance throughout the world. Also, many educational institutions have been concerned with creating careers in these areas, especially when a serious research such as the GEM was followed due to several years of entrepreneurship activity. Many countries have sought to promote the entrepreneurial spirit through actions aimed at providing training, incentive for business start-ups, and financing. This, however, is based on the fact that entrepreneurship is considered as the motor of a country's development, especially in times of crisis. In Ecuador, entrepreneurship plays an important role in the generation of employment, investment, production, consumption, and income for the state. These roles are attributable to the fact that Ecuador is a country where entrepreneurship is generated by opportunity and necessity. The present research is of a bibliographical character since it uses documents which were based on statistical information and other sources in which the situation of the enterprise was analyzed. Analytical method was used to obtain real information based on observation and analysis. It is also based on the inductive part of a particular situation. In general, it derives knowledge that are proposed. The deductive method starts from general data and through logical reasoning, it comes to a particular consideration and conclusion. The objective of the research is to analyze the beginning of entrepreneurship in the current situation in Ecuador.

The crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the migration policies of various countries around the world, lead to the radicalization of the most marginal social groups, including right - wing extremists. Due to the development of information technologies, right-wing extremists receive new channels for spreading their destructive ideas. Since the main users of data networks are young people, primarily schoolchildren and students, the prevention of extremism in public social media is particularly relevant. The authors of the article believe that an effective tool for preventing extremism is the collection and processing of data on the activity of right-wing radicals in social networks. Such work, according to the authors, can not only increase the effectiveness of identifying extremists on the Internet, but also establish productive interaction with the main target audience of social media - young people. In the interests of sustainable development, it is necessary to cooperate with authorities, technical specialists, and educational institutions in order to develop a unified policy to counter extremism both in the Sverdlovsk region and in Russian Federation and around the world.

This paper assesses the state of PR in the UAE in relation to global media, and highlights needs in this area for both public and private enterprises. The paper explores the types of Social Media (SM) used for public relations in the UAE and what it plays in PR departments. The main research focus of this paper is how PR departments are utilizing social media to engage in advocacy work. Employing a qualitative method, interview data is taken from a cross section of 40 organizations throughout the UAE. It addresses perceptions of benefits, challenges, public acceptance, and future strategies of social media in relation to global SM as a whole. A limited number of research articles about the use of the internet in the UAE organizations have been published, but the author found no previous published studies specifically focusing on the use of SM in PR in this region, and this is the first paper that focuses on SM in 40 different organizations. It also offers suggestions for media planning and education strategies that can contribute to the future of PR in the UAE, and suggests further research focusing on the socio-economic effects of social media be conducted and incorporated by educational institutions in the UAE and by private businesses with a vested interest. These new technologies are critical for improving organizational and PR processes in the UAE.

The world population has been growing tremendously, which surged up the demand and enrolment in educational institutions to unimaginable level globally. Similarly, Malaysia has witnessed tremendous growth in higher education both in the order and establishment of new higher education institutions (HEIs) to match up with the demand. However, there is no commensurate increase in the student housing facilities to match up with the growing enrolment and demand; hence, accommodate a certain proportion of the total students. The paper explored qualitative methodology data from in-depth expert interviews of selected public and private universities in Malaysia; discussed the problems of HEIs student housing provision to four identified themes: student enrolment, government policy, funding and land issues as what exacerbated the issues. Therefore, challenges for student housing provision are enormous; hence HEIs and Government cannot adequately respond and satisfy the demand unless private housing developers actively involved otherwise problems of student housing provision will continue to persist.

Chapter 11 serves as another expository to readers. In this chapter, readers are enlightened on the digital and virtual age as they relate to the educational trend and online education. In addition, the chapter provides some insights to social media as they relate to education at higher educational institutions and how connecting to the world in terms of education and doing business is at the fingertips with the aid of mobile computing and social media. While social media and mobile devices create an ease of reaching information and networking, their careless usage and lack of monitoring in the classroom exacerbate and defeat their intended good purpose of enhancing the learning process, failing to render the desired results.

PurposeLeaders, consultants and researchers are increasingly focused on enhancing the adoption of social networking tools to increase knowledge sharing practices and the success rate of organizations. This study was conducted to explore the adoption of social networking applications in public and private sector universities. This paper aims to discover how social networking applications can foster knowledge sharing practices among employees of universities.Design/methodology/approachThe study is based on an interpretivist, qualitative research design using grounded theory. Fifty-two semi-structured and non-directive interviews were undertaken with employees of public and private sector universities. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, and thematic analysis was performed using the NVivo 11-Plus.FindingsThe study highlights how social media networking applications can be used effectively and efficiently to foster knowledge sharing practices in the workplace. Five emerging themes are identified as follows. Social media networking tools can enhance new knowledge, increase employee skills, promote a knowledge sharing culture, foster effective communication and increase employee involvement in research activities.Research limitations/implicationsSocial networking applications have received attention because executives and researchers are increasingly focused on finding new ways to use social networking tools in business. The effective and efficient use of social networking tools helps organizations to foster knowledge amongst employees, and can address various critical issues such as knowledge hoarding, lowers levels of skills and knowledge, poor communication and employee involvement, the lack of desire to share knowledge, and resistance toward technology.Originality/valueA brief systematic literature review on social media and knowledge sharing highlights that only 11 per cent of studies found that examined the link between social media and knowledge sharing practices across the world. The study therefore represents an effort to shed new light on the adoption of social networking tools in the context of knowledge sharing among universities employees. Social media applications have become popular across the world, and the speed of their uptake is evolving rapidly. However, their contribution toward organizational change is not yet known.
