COVID-19 pandemic is a global problem that raised the perception of stress to a completely new level, unseen so far in peace conditions. To reduce the level of stress and deal with its accumulated consequences, people enforce different strategies and coping mechanisms. In the vast amount of information available, imposed by the media, and often filled with falsehoods and catastrophizing related topics, it can be very challenging to distinguish the truth from falsehoods. The existence of an adequate level of digital literacy and e-Health literacy can help society to deal with that problem. Digital and e-Health literacy enables society to search for information efficiently, while remaining critical and open-minded, and use the newly adopted knowledge to improve our mental health. The aim of the paper was to present the frequency of news searches and trusting the COVID-19 related information in the group of medical professionals in Croatia. The survey was conducted using an online questionnaire, containing psychological questionnaires and relevant questions about everyday functioning. Based on the results that show a significant correlation between the frequency of information search and the lack of trust in the search results, we discuss the importance of digital and e-Health literacy, primarily within medical professionals.

In the setting of disasters, people seek information as they hope that knowledge will provide security. This makes the media a critical source of crisis exposure. The aim of the study described in this article was to analyze COVID-19 pandemic-related psychological aspects of media use by healthcare and pharmacy workers in Lithuania and to reveal the subjective effects of media consumption on their psychological well-being. 967 healthcare workers and pharmacists in Lithuania completed an electronic survey, which consisted of questions about the changes in well-being experienced since the beginning of the lockdown and media use in the search for information on COVID-19. It was found that communication might have ambiguous effects on psychological well-being. Excessive, unreliable, misleading, contradictory information and “catastrophizing” were subjectively related to impaired psychological well-being. Objective and reliable, relevant, clear, timely, hopeful and supportive information had a subjective positive effect. Seeking COVID-19-related information many times a day was associated with increased fear of becoming infected with COVID-19, feeling unable to control the risk of contracting COVID-19, fear of infecting relatives with COVID-19 and feeling that other people would avoid interaction with healthcare workers and pharmacists because of their job. General browsing was not consistently associated with COVID-19-related fears.

The development of technology information in the 4.0 revolution era also affected to education. Higher education is demanded to develop curriculum based on digital literacy and technology literacy. The use of blended learning combines face-to-face methods with Google classroom in the Modul Pengantar Pembelajaran Kedokteran. The purpose of this study is to find out at the learning experiences of students using blended learning. Methods: This is descriptivestudy with cross sectional design. The study sample was first semester students at the Faculty of Medicine at Baiturrahmah University. Data collected through online questionnaire using Google form. Results: The number of respondents was 56 students. As many as 83.9% of students are familiar with the term e-learning or blended learning, 92.9% stated they did not experience difficulties when using google classroom,as many as 92.9% of students recommend google classroom as an effective media to e-learning. Conclusion: the benefits of blended learning can be felt by students, the media deliver learning resources and discussion with students and examine the results of student assignments quickly, and improve student discipline

Resumen:España es uno de los mayores consumidores de contenidos digitales de todo el mundo, especialmente contenidos audiovisuales compartidos en redes sociales, pero la competencia multimedia e informacional de su ciudadanía todavía resulta insuficiente. Paralelamente, son cuantiosos los estudios que evidencian que existe un vacío formativo al respecto en el ámbito universitario. Por ello, en este trabajo hemos querido analizar la percepción que tienen los estudiantes del área de educación -futuros graduados en Educación Infantil y Primaria- en relación con su competencia digital docente, detectar carencias e identificar su nivel competencial en materia de alfabetización mediática en convergencia con la competencia digital. Los estándares utilizados como referente nos los proporcionan el «Marco Común de Competencia Digital Docente» del Instituto Nacional de Tecnologías Educativas y la «Orientación Normativa y Estratégica de la Alfabetización Mediática e Informacional» de la UNESCO. En base a ellos, se ha elaborado un cuestionario online cuyos resultados evidencian que los alumnos de la Universidad Internacional de Valencia vinculados al magisterio muestran un nivel competencial avanzado en las áreas de información, comunicación y creación de contenidos audiovisuales, lo que garantiza competencias tanto multimedia e informacionales como digitales. Mientras que las habilidades más bajas están vinculadas con la seguridad y la innovación tecnológica. Asimismo, la autopercepción apriorística de los futuros maestros sobre su competencia digital supera las capacidades que manifiesta esta investigación mediante las evidencias proporcionadas por las respuestas del cuestionario. Abstract:Spain is one of the largest consumers of digital content worldwide, especially audiovisual content shared on social networks, but the media and information literacy of its citizens is still insufficient. In addition, there are many studies showing that there is a training gap on this subject at the university level. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze future Early Childhood and Primary education graduates’ perception regarding digital literacy in order to identify their shortfalls and assess their level of competence in media literacy in conjunction with digital literacy. As reference standards, we used the «Marco Común de Competencia Digital Docente» by the Instituto Nacional de Tecnologías Educativas and the «Orientación Normativa y Estratégica de la Alfabetización Mediática e Informacional» by UNESCO. From that point, an online questionnaire was implemented as an instrument for the development of this study. The results showed that Universidad Internacional de Valencia’s education students have an advanced level of competence in the areas of information, communication and audiovisual content creation, which ensures good media, information literacy and digital competences. They showed to have, however, poorer safety and technological innovation skills. Likewise, the future teachers’ personal perception about their digital competence is higher than the actual findings of this research show.

Introduction: Digital health literacy (DHL) has recently been proposed as a means of enabling healthy decisions for protective behavior, preventive measures, and adherence with COVID-19 policies and recommendations especially in the era of the “infodemic”. This study aimed to (1) identify COVID-19 related DHL and its association with online information seeking; (2) to elucidate COVID-19 related DHL as a mediator predictor between the importance of online information search and its association with subjective well-being among Vietnamese university students.Methods: A cross-sectional web-based survey was used to elicit the responses of Vietnamese students over 2 consecutive weeks (from April 25 to May 9, 2020, n = 1,003, 70.1% female students, mean age 21.4 ± 3.1). The online survey questionnaire collected data on the sociodemographic characteristics of participants, DHL about COVID-19, information seeking behavior, and subjective well-being. Mediation analysis was conducted using the importance of searching COVID-19 related information as independent variables, subjective well-being as a dependent variable, and DHL as a mediator variable.Results: Among 1,003 students, the mean (SD) of DHL related to COVID-19 was 2.87 ± 0.32. In the survey, 87.2% of the students reported sufficient well-being, while almost 13% reported low or very low well-being. The findings also indicated that search engines were the most popular platform for information seeking by Vietnamese students (95.3%) and 92.8% of participants had searched for information related to the current spread of COVID-19. Not searching for hygiene regulation as part of infection control and an average level of information satisfaction were associated with limited DHL (p < 0.05). The importance of online information searching related to COVID-19 increased the subjective well-being of students significantly and limited DHL (p < 0.05). DHL was found to mediate the relationship between the importance of online information searching and the subjective well-being of students.Conclusion: The finding provides insight into DHL about COVID-19 among university students, and their ability to find, understand, appraise, and use online health related information during lockdown throughout the first COVID-19 pandemic wave. DHL should be highlighted as a mediating factor that enhances the positive effect of the importance of information seeking on psychological well-being. However, further studies are needed to better define the mediating role of DHL across other factors.

We examine data on capital-gains-tax-related information search to determine when and how taxpayers acquire information. We find seasonal increases in information search around tax deadlines, suggesting that taxpayers seek information to comply with tax law. Positive correlations between stock market activity and search as well as year-end spikes in information search on capital losses when the market performs poorly suggest that taxpayers seek information for tax planning purposes. Policy changes and news events cause information search. These data suggest that taxpayers are not always fully informed, but that rational attention and exogenous shocks to tax salience drive taxpayer information search. (JEL D12, D83, H24, H31, K34)

Background: The teaching of the subject “Biochemical Basis of Human Nutrition” of the Degree in Biochemistry is based on the premise that students apply the knowledge acquired in previous courses concerning biochemistry and metabolism. However, for many topics covered in this subject, not rigorously application of this knowledge has been detected, existing influences derived from non-expert information available in the media. To a large extent, this problem lies in the fact that nutrition is a topic widely covered in the media, although often in a generalized, incomplete and not very rigorous way. Methodologies: In this project we proposed students to apply a critical view on nutrition-related information available in the media, with special emphasis on the hottest topics, such as transgenic foods and Mediterranean diet. For this purpose, we designed two strategies: (1) a mini-workshop activity in connection with the subject “Food Biotechnology” focused on the use of transgenic foods; (2) involving students in the creation and management of a web page aimed at dealing with topics related to nutrition, worked from two approaches (informative and scientific). For the development of these activities, students were assigned to different working groups and information about the knowledge of the students in the topics was collected in pre- and post-activity tests. In this way, we involved students in real activities of expert search and screening of information, in order to communicate it in different environments. Results: The project was developed during two academic years, involving students from two successive promotions (30 students in the first year and 39 in the second year). The activities proposed within the project were voluntary, and the percentage of adherence to them was 100% in both cases, indicating the high degree of acceptance among the students. We created a website (www.lawebnatural.com) in the context of this project. In the activities aimed at researching and writing articles on specific topics within the web page environment, questionnaires were carried out prior to the development of the activities to evaluate the degree of knowledge that the students had about the topics to be worked on in the activities. The implementation of post-activities questionnaires showed an improvement percentage of 85% in the knowledge of the topics. The elaboration of graphic material on transgenic foods for the mini-workshop activity, was another profitable activity contributing to a better understanding of the topics. Conclusions and implications: The use of these dynamics concerning the active participation of students in creative tasks based on information search improves the quality of learning. The choice of current topics in nutrition awakens the students' critical spirit, as they confront their pre-established ideas about these topics with the new knowledge acquired. Objective: Searching the Internet for health-related information is a complex and dynamic goal-oriented process that places demands on executive functions, which are higher-order cognitive abilities that are known to deteriorate with older age. This study aimed to examine the effects of older age on electronic health (eHealth) search behavior, and to determine whether executive functions played a mediating role in that regard. Method: Fifty younger adults (≤ 35 years) and 41 older adults (≥50 years) completed naturalistic eHealth search tasks involving fact-finding (Fact Search) and symptom diagnosis (Symptom Search), a neurocognitive battery, and a series of questionnaires. Results: Multiple regression models with relevant covariates revealed that older adults were slower and less accurate than younger adults on the eHealth Fact Search task, but not on the eHealth Symptom Search task. Nevertheless, executive functions mediated the relationship between older age and eHealth Fact Search and Symptom Search accuracy. Conclusions: Older adults can experience difficulty searching the Internet for some health-related information, which is at least partly attributable to executive dysfunction. Future studies are needed to determine the benefits of training in the organizational and strategic aspects of Internet search for older adults and whether these findings are applicable to clinical populations with executive dysfunction.

Disagreements in construction projects often result in litigation that is both time‐consuming and expensive. A dispute review board (DRB) provides a valuable and proven alternative method of dispute resolution. Currently, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) stores DRB reports in portable document format (PDF) with limited search capability. Improving information retrieval of DRB documents and providing a certain level of integration of DRB reports with relevant but heterogeneous data and documents is the key to enhancing the current FDOT DRB system. This paper presents a web‐based data management framework to improve information management processes of the FDOT DRB system by providing key features such as metadata generation, an integrated review process, a simple issue description, member information management, and versatile information search. The new system not only allows DRB members and FDOT construction engineers to store and retrieve DRB reports but also provides more functionality to process those re‐ports. New functionalities include a structured search based on the metadata of DRB reports, an unstructured search using advanced computer technology, and the integration of DRB reports with other related information for analysis. This type of functionality improves the efficiency and effectiveness of the DRB system. Straipsnyje pristatoma internetine duomenu valdymo sistema, skirta patobulinti FTD GNT valdymo procesa remiantis šiomis esminemis savybemis: metaduomenu generavimo, integruoto peržiūros proceso, paprasto ginčo aprašymo, dalyvio informacijos valdymo, visapusiškos informacijos paieškos. Naujoji sistema ne tik leidžia FTD BNT nariams saugoti bei rasti GNT ataskaitas, bet ir sudaro galimybes funkcionaliau jas apdoroti. Naujos sistemos funkcijos apima struktūrizuota paieška GNT ataskaitu metaduomenu pagrindu, restruktūri‐zuota paieška naudojant pažangias kompiuteriu technologijas ir GNT ataskaitu integravima su kita susijusia analizuojama informacija. Šios funkcines savybes pagerina GNT sistemos efektyvuma.

Person-centered care has led healthcare professionals (HCPs) to be more attentive to patients’ ability to understand and apply health-related information, especially those with chronic conditions. The concept of health literacy (HL) is essential in understanding patients’ needs in routine care, but its measurement is still controversial, and few tools are validated in French. We therefore considered the brief health literacy screen (BHLS) for assessing patient-reported HL in chronic care settings, and also developed an HCP-reported version of the BHLS with the aim of using it as a research instrument to assess HCPs’ evaluation of patients’ HL levels. We assessed the content validity of the French translation of both the patient-reported and HCP-reported BHLS in chronic care within hospital settings, through cognitive interviews with patients and HCPs. We performed qualitative analysis on interview data using the survey response Tourangeau model. Our results show that the BHLS is easy and quick to administer, but some terms need to be adapted to the French chronic care settings. Health-related information was observed to be mainly communicated orally, hence a useful direction for future literacy measures would be to also address verbal HL.
