Education belongs among the most important means for the development of human intellectual potential. Whether formal or informal, education has always played an important role both in the life of the individual and in the life of the community. In the paper before us, the author discusses some of the basic principles of educational theory of the English thinker J. H. Newman. The first chapter of the paper discusses man seen as a being of development who needs certain means to help him reach his intellectual excellence. Among these means education holds a primary position. The second chapter brings Newman’s attitude towards the utilitarian concept of university education, and the third chapter deals with the influence of the university on the moral formation of the individual.

Economic and social progress in our practice depends upon the sustained interest and the effort of the individual physician. Courage and faith are necessary foundations for action in this critical year of decision, and there is every reason to believe that the new generation of pediatricians has every qualification necessary to continue the quest for better health among children. His adventure in "practical idealism" will not be an easy one. But, fortified by the assurance of his noble heritage of accomplishment and adherence to high standards, he will accept the challenge of the future with a deep sense of responsibility. He will keep faith with those who have gone before, and attempt to retain the confidence and trust of the people as did our fathers, by holding high the banner of service. The price of success in this undertaking involves a determination to reach our objectives regardless of adverse circumstances, concentration on the immediate problems, and by long range plans for fulfilling our obligations to the children of America. Frustration and differences of opinion are inevitable. Changing conditions require flexibility in our adaptation to existing needs. Let us keep our eyes upon the stars, but our feet upon the ground! Our responsibilities are great. The Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. William S. Middleton, recently stated the challenge in these words: "Make no small plans; they have no magic to stir man's soul!" Medicine progresses, even in a troubled world. Changes in governments, in laws and controls, have not interfered with this progress. Civilizations of the past have been destroyed by the decay and infamy and greed within their own structure. Let us renew our faith in the simple basic principles, which have characterized the growth and development of the Academy for 22 years.

The article is devoted to the study of the organization of lifelong learning process as a condition for the individual’s successful career development. The importance of the accession of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the European educational space is determined. Continuity of the education process, today, is one of the basic principles in the educational policy of Kazakhstan. The article presents the characteristics of such concepts as «formal education», «non-formal education», «informal education», according to the special terminology of UNESCO (formal education is a process of acquiring knowledge that takes place in a well-organized and hierarchically ordered context, culminating in the issuance of a state sample; non-formal education, in turn, is characterized by the acquisition of knowledge outside the specialized educational space; informal education is an individual human activity aimed at the cognitive process and does not always have a specific result). The article proves the need to merge formal, non-formal and informal education, which, in turn, makes it possible to prepare a person for life in a rapidly changing environment and ensure full-fledged career development of the individual, preserving his individuality, and satisfying his career and life needs.

The paper focuses on substantiating the institutional significance of the humanitarian component of University education and demonstrating opportunities for its implementation through non-profit activities of the University community. Transition to the new technological order accentuates the relevance of new personal and communicative competencies formed on the basis of education in humanities. Humanitarization is a priority task, which is reflected in the University education practices in the United States and European countries. The idea of upbringing a humanitarianly educated and humanitarianly oriented personality is declared in the discourses of the world leading Universities’ missions, whose activities are aimed at achieving public good for the society and its sustainable development. Russian documents and discussions on higher education emphasize the importance of humanitarization, but in practice, the humanitarian component in Russian universities is clearly being underestimated. In our opinion, this is due to the fact that humanitarization means mainly the strengthening of the cognitive element of University programs – the expansion of humanitarian specialties and humanitarian courses, but socially oriented University practices are not taken into account. Meanwhile, humanitarization includes both the translation of humanitarian knowledge and values – the strategic goals of the development of society, the state, the region, and the activity-based approbation of the knowledge gained in extra-curricular practices.Humanitarization of higher education is considered in the article from the standpoint of social and philosophical analysis, within the ontological aspect as a mode of being of an institutionally organized human activity on knowledge production and translation, which has closely been expressed in creating University 3.0, as well as in the idea and discourse of the third mission of University. The third mission sufficiently strengthens its emphasis on the anthropological and social function – orientation of University activities towards the genesis of a creative personality and the increased good for society. The goal of achieving the good is explicitly present in those social practices that are aimed at participating in the life of society without direct commercial gain and is implemented outside the University. The article examines the main types of socio-humanitarian practices in universities in Western countries.

We are at the beginning of the fourth industrial revolution. The authors understand that university education should embrace the keys to this scenario and do so immediately. Considering this fact, new university teaching should be supported by technological immersion, but also by a culture of proactivity and training in values. The third of these pillars achieves an unimaginable relevance in regards to this emerging industrial revolution, which aims to become the revolution of values. Within this context, the university must move into the practice of ethical values and offer training based on soft skills. Moreover, there is a path that links ethics with soft skills based on the synergy between the two. From this idea, the central objectives of this work are to propose a university model for educational innovation based on values that also includes the tools for its implementation. The chapter ends with a practical case for implementing the model at the fablab that the University of Extremadura has available for its students majoring in Information Technology Engineering.

It can be told about the second half of the XXth century that, apart from preferring the large-scale growing of field plants and the largescalelivestock farming, corresponding to the central political will of the communist era, the significance and innovation output ofhorticultural education in Debrecen was rather of follow-up trait, of secondary importance. The Tobacco Research Institute continued theresearch work, and then even this activity was stopped. According to a survey finished in 1997, the mentioned institute had no invention,granted patent, protection for registered model or any application for patent in progress at the Hungarian Patent Office. Until this time, invention activity at the University of Agricultural Sciences was of medium standard. In the National Patent Office, seven patent applications related to agricultural production and nine patent applications for other fields submitted under the inventors’ names were recorded. In the same period, the Cereal Research Institute (Szeged) led the absolute innovation list of Hungarian agricultural R+D institutions and university education institutes by submitting 164 own patent applications. Both in domestic and international terms, the horticultural innovation conducted at the University of Agricultural Sciences, despite the individual research results and achievements deserving recognition, without appropriate background – remained unnoticed. Let us put it this way: for the past decades, the light of the Debrecen Flower Carnival has not been thrown on the horticultural teachers and researchers of Debrecen.

This paper discusses the idea of fundamental nature of the university mathematics education. In the conditions of university education there are three interconnected groups of factors, which form the basis of the conceptual model of mathematicians training fundamentalization. The first group of factors is focused on updating the ways of specialist training of the increased creative potential – training for modern mathematicians. The second group of factors is connected with the need of strengthening fundamental and humanitarian training, ensuring interdisciplinary communication within educational process, interrelation of mathematical, technical and humanitarian knowledge. The third group of factors includes the concept of university principle of education, the concept of fundamentalization and the concept of humanitarization of technical education at classical university. There is a model of the fundamental nature for training mathematicians.

The contribution covers discussion on informal university learning, which is a part of heutagogy. In the paper, the university learning is considered as autopoietic organization development as well as development of business organization strongly dependent on external knowledge resources. In general, university education space covers formal, informal, and non-formal learning. Nowadays, informal learning has an excellent opportunity for development, because of Web 2.0 ideas and solutions. In the paper, the architecture of informal learning environment is visualized in ArchiMate 4.0 beta version language. The main goal of the paper is to present informal learning architecture as supplement to the formal learning. The MOOCs (massive open online courses) are included in the architecture model for informal learning support.

The article deals with the transformation of the role and place of universities in the current conditions of economic development and the demands of society on the example of a traditional medical university — the Samara State Medical University. The results of the university’s work in the innovation-technological area and their integration into the principal activities of the university (education, research) are discussed, as well as the implementation of the “third” mission of the university, i.e. development of the regional economy, the innovative ecosystem of the region, and human capital.
