Abstract FROSTLINE is a fine-grain, columbium-treated carbon steel designed to be an economical solution to structural design requirements at cold temperatures. Available in plate thicknesses up to 6 inches, it offers high levels of toughness at temperatures to 80 F and higher strength levels than conventional carbon steels. Frostline also offers excellent welding characteristics, because of its low carbon equivalent. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: CS-67. Producer or source: Lukens Steel Company.

Abstract LESCO S-7 is an air or oil-hardening die steel with a unique combination of toughness and wear-resistance properties that makes it an ideal choice for many tooling applications. The outstanding properties of Lesco S-7 are provided by an intermediate carbon level balanced with moderate amounts of chromium and molybdenum. It is used for both cold and hot tooling applications. Its many uses include shear blades, swaging dies, chisels and dies for molding plastics below 1000 F (538 C). This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-437. Producer or source: Latrobe Steel Company.

Abstract SILICO ALLOY is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel; it has high toughness at relatively high operating hardnesses. It is primarily an oil-hardening steel because of its molybdenum content (0.45%); however, it may be water hardened. It is a low-cost, high-quality steel that combines high toughness with the advantages of oil-hardening non-deforming steels. Its relatively high hardenability coupled with high toughness makes it extremely useful for larges shear blades in severe service. Other applications include pneumatic tools, punches, hand chisels, rivet sets and pipe cutters. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-473. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract NDS is an oil-hardening steel for use in tools, dies and machine parts requiring a good combination of hardness, toughness, and wear resistance. The relatively large percentage of nickel contained in this grade produces an alloy with greater toughness than the standard oil-hardening types while retaining the necessary hardness and wear resistance. NDS is well suited for cold-work applications requiring this extra toughness. Such applications include punches, dies and cold-forming rolls. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-423. Producer or source: Latrobe Steel Company.

Abstract TARTAN is an economical, as-rolled carbon steel in plate form. It has a minimum yield strength of 50,000 psi and a minimum transverse impact value (Charpy V-notch) of 20 foot-pounds at -20 F up to a thickness of 11/2 inches. Columbium (niobium) has been added to increase toughness levels above those of other as-rolled carbon steels of similar thickness and strength. Among Tartan's uses are crane car bodies and roll-over protection equipment. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: CS-88. Producer or source: Lukens Steel Company.
