A phylogenetic analysis of combined rDNA LSU and ITS sequence data was carried out to determine the phylogenetic placement of specimens identified as Pseudotryblidium neesii. The species forms a distinct clade within Dermateaceae (Helotiales, Leotiomycetes) with Rhizodermea veluwiensis and two Dermea species. The geographical distribution of this species, previously known only from Europe on Abies alba, is extended to north-western North America where it grows exclusively on A. grandis. The name P. neesii is lectotypified in order to disentangle the complicated nomenclature of the species. A new, detailed description of P. neesii with illustrations is provided after comparison of sequenced specimens with the type material. Furthermore, the new combination Pseudographis rufonigra (basionym Peziza rufonigra) is made for a fungus previously known as Pseudographis pinicola.

A new species, Pseudodactylaria brevis, is described, illustrated and compared with other Pseudodactylaria and Dactylaria-like taxa. Evidence for the new species is provided by morphological comparison and sequence data analyses. Pseudodactylaria brevis can be distinguished from other Pseudodactylaria and Dactylaria-like species by its short hyaline conidiophores and fusiform, 1-septate hyaline conidia. Phylogenetic analysis of LSU and ITS sequence data was carried out to determine the phylogenetic placement of the species and confirm the taxonomic status of Pseudodactylariaceae.

Of the 455 known genera in Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), 41% are monotypic and 26% comprise only two or three species each. Similarly, of the 16 genera constituting Scandiceae Spreng. subtribe Scandicinae Tausch, seven (Balansaea Boiss. & Reut., Kozlovia Lipsky, Krasnovia Schischk., Myrrhis Mill., Myrrhoides Fabr., Sphallerocarpus DC. and Todaroa Parl.) are monotypic, and two (Neoconopodium Pimenov & Kljuykov and Tinguarra Parl.) are bitypic. Phylogenetic analysis of the subtribe, using molecular (rDNA ITS), morphological and anatomical data, indicates that the number of genera may be reduced with only three, Todaroa, Sphallerocarpus and Myrrhis, retained as monotypic. Remaining taxa form eight clades that are supported by high bootstrap values and are morphologically distinct. Four of these clades (Anthriscus Pers., Geocaryum Coss., Osmorhiza Raf. and Scandix L.) are equivalent to currently recognized genera. Kozlovia, Krasnovia and Neoconopodium form a well-supported clade that may be recognized as the single genus Kozlovia, and Myrrhoides is grouped with Chaerophyllum L. Tinguarra and Athamanta L. form a monophyletic group that is well supported by analyses of morphology, fruit anatomy, and combined morphological, anatomical and ITS sequence data; however, this group is not maintained in separate analyses of ITS sequences. Similarly, the group formed by Conopodium W. D. J. Koch and Balansaea is monophyletic in morphological, anatomical, and combined analyses, but is not supported by the separate analyses of ITS sequence data. All of these groups are well delimited on the basis of fruit characters that have long been regarded as essential in umbellifer taxonomy. One new combination is proposed: Athamanta montana (Webb ex H. Christ.) Spalik, A. Wojew. & S. R. Downie.

Two asexual trichocladium-like species were recorded from coastlines in Japan and Thailand. Phylogenetic analysis of multi-gene sequence data placed them in Savoryella (Savoryellaceae), grouping with an unidentified strain isolated from submerged wood in a saline environment, but distinct from other Savoryella species. In this paper, we propose a new combination as Savoryella nypae based on Trichocladium nypae and a new species Savoryella sarushimana. Savoryella sarushimana differs from S. nypae in having larger conidial dimensions, with a rough to spiny surface and the proliferation of conidia. Detail morphological features coupled with sporulation in culture of the new taxa are illustrated. Notes on the phylogenetic placement of the discussed taxa and emendation of the genus Savoryella are provided.

A new species Alfaria avenellae, is described, illustrated and compared with other Alfaria species. Evidence for the new species is provided by morphological comparison and sequence data analyses. Alfaria avenellae can easily be distinguished from other Alfaria species by its distinct synnemata, long conidiophores (up to 350 μm) and pale green to dark green conidia. Phylogenetic analysis of combined LSU and ITS sequence data was carried out to determine the phylogenetic placement of this new species within the genus Alfaria and provide evidence to support the establishment of our new species.

During our ongoing investigations of freshwater fungi in Thailand, three new chaetosphaeriaceous species, Chloridium aquaticum, Chloridium aseptatum and Dictyochaeta aquatica, were found on submerged wood in freshwater habitats. To determine their placement, a phylogenetic analysis of combined LSU and ITS sequence data was performed. Chloridium aquaticum is the only species having proliferating conidiophores and holoblastic conidiogenous cell in Chloridium. A detailed description and illustrations of the taxa is provided and phylogenetic relationship between the new taxa and their relatives are compared and discussed.

A new species, Russula rubricolor, was collected in the Himalayan forests of Pakistan. This species is morphologically characterized by the yellowish hymenium, bright red pileus that is convex to flat with central depression and finally infundibuliform and striate towards margin, becoming blackish red with age. The newly reported species is placed in Russula subsect. Maculatinae based molecular phylogenetic analysis of ITS sequence data and supported by the red pileus color.

During a survey of entomopathogenetic fungi from Southwest China, a new species, Akanthomyces lepidopterorum was found on an undetermined lepidopteran larva. It differs from other species based on mostly smaller conidia, mononematous conidiophores and moderate length of phialide. Both the morphological identification and phylogenetic analysis of combined ITS, LSU and RPB2 sequence data support A. lepidopterorum as a new species. A new combination is also proposed in the genus Akanthomyces.

Molecular analysis of the newly reinstated genus Synostemon F.Muell. (Phyllanthaceae, Phyllantheae), using ITS sequence data from the now densely sampled genus, confirmed that the previously recognised ‘Queensland clade’ consists of Synostemon albiflorus (F.Muell. ex Müll.Arg.) Airy Shaw, S. sphenophyllus Airy Shaw, Sauropus podenzanae (S.Moore) Airy Shaw and the undescribed Synostemon spinescens, sp. nov. ined., the latter being validated here as S. spinosus I.Telford & J.J.Bruhl. Morphological synapomorphies for the clade are as follows: linear, apiculate anthers that are connivent but only basally connate, and thickened, clavate, recurved stigmas. A new combination is provided under Synostemon for Sauropus podenzanae as Synostemon podenzanae (S.Moore) I.Telford & Pruesapan and Sauropus convallarioides J.T.Hunter & J.J.Bruhl is formally placed in synonymy under Synostemon sphenophyllus. Descriptions, distributional data and notes on ecology and conservation status are provided for these species. Phyllanthus albiflorus F.Muell. ex Müll.Arg., the basionym of Synostemon albiflorus, is lectotypified.

The species of Guarea F.Allam. ex L. (Meliaceae) are revised. Sixty-nine species are recognised, a key to the species is provided, all names are typified and descriptions of all species are given. A phylogenetic analysis based on ITS sequence data is discussed. Six new species and one new subspecies are described. Five new combinations for subspecies are made.
