Background: The current study explored the prevalence and pattern of traditional and complementary alternative medicine (TCAM) use, its perceived benefits and possible impact on health outcomes amongst diabetics in Dubai, UAE.Objectives: Diabetes is highly prevalent in the UAE, with diabetics potentially not complying with the prescribed conventional medicines, or preferring to use of traditional and complementary alternative medicines. The current study therefore sheds light on these two areas. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional pilot study was conducted in 4 healthcare facilities in Dubai using quantitative data collection methods. Using a systematic random sampling method, 145 diabetic participants completed a self-reported questionnaire. Measures in the questionnaire included traditional and complementary alternative medicine use, and perceived benefits. SPSS version 21 was used for result analysis. Chi-square test was used to confirm significance amongst various groups. Results: Amongst 145 diabetic participants recruited, 66.9% were female, and 57.9% had undergraduate degree. Majority of participants (95.2%) had type II diabetes. Participants age was between 20 to 79 years. The prevalence of TCAM use amongst the participants was 21.4%, with the majority of users being female (27.8%). TCAM use was more common amongst housewives (28.6%). None of the TCAM users had the intervention prescribed by a health specialist, and the majority (51.6%) used it for the purpose of slowing the progression of the disease. More than half (58.1%) of TCAM users reported receiving the desired effect, and 77.4% used TCAM in combination with the prescribed conventional medicine. Conclusion: The current study confirmed the un-prescribed use of TCAM amongst participants in Dubai, UAE. Further studies are required to elaborate on the interaction between TCAM and prescribed conventional medicines.

Abstract In Mexico, the feeding of goat herds kept in pasture is defined by a dry season and a rainy season, the above, coupled with zero complementation at the beginning of their reproductive cycle, directly affects their productivity. The effect of a feed complementation with Cucumis melo upon ovulatory, embrionary and pregnancy rate was evaluated in goats under grazing conditions in rangelands of northern Mexico. Thirty-two multi-racial anovulatory goats, homogeneous regarding body weight (39.05±0.9) and body condition score (2.5±0.3; 1–5 scale) were divided into 2 groups (n = 16). The first group (treated: GT) received a treatment of a complementation of 200g of grounded melon per animal during 14 days, while the second group (control: GC) did not receive any feed complementation. Both groups were grazed during 8 h per day (from 09:00 to 17:00 h). At day 7 of the feed complementation, the goats were synchronized (progesterone + hCG) and artificially inseminated with fresh semen. The ovulatory, embrionary and pregnancy rates were determined by trans-rectal ultrasound at 10, 28 and 45 days, respectively. The ovulatory percentage, embrionary rate and pregnancy were compared using a chi-square test. All statistical analyses were performed using the statistical package MYSTAT 12. The results of the present research show that there were no statistical differences in any of the three evaluated variables, even though the ovulatory percentage was numerically higher for the treated (P > 0.05). In conclusion, the complementation with melon is not an efficient alternative for grazing goats of northern Mexico, as it does not improve the reproductive response.

The study of the manner of execution (technique, and spatial aspects) can provide useful information to understand the game dynamics in beach volleyball and to obtain references values for the analysis of the game and the establishment of training goals. The aim of the study was to determine the influence of the manner of execution on serve and rally performance in elite women's beach volleyball players. A total of 3,009 serves from 44 women’s players were analyzed. The variables studied were: serve technique, serve zone, serve destination, serve performance, and rally performance. An observational punctual, nomothetic, multidimensional, and intragroup design was used. A descriptive and inferential analysis of the data (Chi-Square Test) was done using SPSS v.21.0 software. The level of significance was set at p < .05. The manner of execution influences the serve performance. The jump float serve was the most used. The most effective destination was the zone between players, probability due to the players' displacement and interference between them. An absence of association between serve technique and rally performance was found. These findings showed possible connections between the way of executing the serve with the following actions done by the players and the players' strategies to control their physical load. These values may be useful to guide to players training, or to evaluate players in competition.

Leadership is a connection between those who aim to influence and those who choose to be influenced and follow. Leaders at all levels practice definite patterns and systems that guide them to perform at their best. The descriptive-correlational study was conducted to identify the most common leadership approaches of learning area coordinators and determine its association with their faculty performance rating. Seventy – six senior high school faculty members were randomly selected to answer an adopted leadership practices inventory instrument developed by Kouzes and Posner. The survey questionnaire measured the learning area coordinators’ level of application of the five leadership approaches. Faculty performance evaluation was also retrieved. Data analysis was carried out using the Chi-square test of correlation. The study findings revealed that learning area coordinators apply the five leadership approaches (modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process, enabling others to act and encouraging the heart) very frequently. Furthermore, about 70% of faculty performed from very satisfactorily to outstanding. Among these leadership approaches, it is modeling the way, challenging the process and encouraging the heart that was associated, X2 (15, 76 = 27.91, 33.66 and 33.11) =24.99, p<.05) to faculty performance evaluation. Based on the findings, recommendations that would enhance and develop leadership styles and practices are given.

Although the legislative framework for protection against discrimination in Croatia covers a considerable number of grounds and could be described as satisfactory, discrimination in society is present to a greater extent than that registered in complaints received by the Office of the Ombudswoman. Different treatment of a person or persons may involve several different legally protected grounds, resulting in a more serious form of discrimination defined under the Anti-Discrimination Act as multiple discrimination. The concept of multiple discrimination is very complex and multi-layered. Thus, the focus of this research was to conduct a survey on 761 respondents stratified by sex, education, and age. The chi-square test examined the relationship between the grounds of discrimination provided by respondents who declare themselves victims of discrimination in the area of work and working conditions, in the area of education and justice, and based on their sex, level of education, and age. The results of the research show that more than half of the respondents experienced some form of discrimination and that more than half of the respondents who declare themselves victims of discrimination experienced some of the more serious forms of discrimination.

Formula milk was a type of prelactal food that was often given to neonates before breast milk comes out. Giving formula milk that was not good can increase the risk of diarrhea in infants because the brewing process was too thick and the way to store formula milk was wrong. The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between the way of serving formula milk with diarrhea events in Tambak Cekur Village, Serbajadi District, Serdang Bedagai Regency in 2019. The type of research conducted in this study was non-experimental, namely collecting data or observations simultaneously between independent variables and dependent variables. by using the Total Sampling method with a sample of 20 respondents Data collection using a questionnaire given to respondents and using Chi Square test data analysis. The results obtained were p value (0.001) < (0.05) or p value = 0.34 which means there was a relationship between the way of serving formula milk with the incidence of diarrhea in infants aged 0-6 months in Tambur Tambur, Serbajadi District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, Year 2019. Infants given formula milk did not provide protection, while diarrhea occurs from infants who were given formula milk. It was hoped that medical staff working at the puskesmas will know how to prepared formula milk to babies to avoid diarrhea. Keywords: Formula milk, Diarrhe, Infants
