Abstract. The aims of this research is: (1) describe the level of mastery learning and increasing students’ mathematical communication ability with problem-based learning, (2) describe students’ activity during the learing process with problem-based learning, and (3) describe students’ response to the component during  problem-based learning. This research is development research. The population of this research are all of students in SMP N 1 Gunung Malela, and the sample chosen is random with VII-3 and VII-4 with 32 students for each class. The instrument used consisted of a test mathematical communication ability of student in description form. The instrumen has been declared eligible validation and had coefisien reability pre-tes and pos-tes 0,81 and 0,62. The results of this research shown that: (1) the level of students’ mastery learning mathematical communication ability in the classical is 87,50% while the increasing of students’ mathematiucal communication abilityin first trial 2,73 increase to 3,05 in the second trial. The most increasing aspect from mathematical communication ability is drawing, (2) students’ activity during learing process with problem based learning has on efektive criteria, and (3) students’ response to the component during problem-based learning has a positive respons. The research suggests to use problem based learning as the alternative way for teacher to increase students mathematical communication abilities. Keywords: Problem Based Learning, and Mathematical Communication Ability

This research was motivated by the lack of learning tools that can improve students' Mathematical Communication Skills (KKM). Activities that can encourage students to improve KKM have not been designed by the teacher in the learning device properly. This study aims to produce learning tools by applying Problem Based Learning models to improve KKM. This development research used the ADDIE development model with the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The results of Syllabus, RPP, LKPD and KKM validation results showed highly valid criteria with percentages of 91.67%, 91.30%, 89.09%, and 87.15%, respectively. Practicality results indicate a very practical criterion with the percentage of small group trials at 95.57%, large group trials at 96.07%, and teacher responses at 96.25%. The effectiveness test results state that KKM of students who use learning tools with PBL models is better than KKM of students who use conventional learning.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji keefektifan pendekatan Problem-Based Learning (PBL) dan Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) ditinjau  dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan motivasi belajar siswa dan manakah yang lebih efektif diantara keduanya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu. Populasinya adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Margasari Kabupaten Tegal. Sampel penelitian kelas VIII-A dan VIII-H. Untuk menguji keefektifan pendekatan pembelajaran data dianalisis dengan uji one sample    t- test pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Untuk mengetahui perbedaan keefektifan pembelajaran data diukur dengan  uji Hotelling’s Trace pada taraf signifikansi 5% dan selanjutnya digunakan uji independent sample t-testuntuk mengetahui pembelajaran mana yang lebih efektif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: pendekatan PBL dan CTL efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan motivasi belajar siswa dan pendekatan PBL lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan pendekatan CTL ditinjau dari motivasi belajar siswa, namun tidak lebih efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis.Kata Kunci:  pendekatan Problem-Based Learning, pendekatan Contextual Teaching and Learning,   kemampuan komunikasi matematis, dan motivasi belajar siswa. The Effectiveness of PBL Approach and CTL Viewed from Mathematical Communication and Learning Motivation of Students Junior High School  AbstractThis study aims to examine  the effectiveness of Problem Based-Learning (PBL) and Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) viewed from students’ mathematical communication ability and learning motivation and which more effective instruction between PBL approach and CTL approach. This study was quasi experiment research. The population covered all grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Margasari in Tegal Regency.  The sample of class VIII-A and VIII-H. To test the effectiveness of the PBL and CTL approaches, the data were analyzed using the one-sample t-test at the significance level of 5%. To determine differences in the effectiveness of mathematics teaching data were analyzed using Hotteling Trace at the significance level of 5% and followed by independent sample t- test to determine which approach was more effective. The results of this study show that: the PBL approach and CTL is effective to increase students’ communication ability and learning motivation and the PB L approach is more effective than the CTL approach viewed from students’ learning motivation but not more effective viewed from mathematical communication ability .Keywords: Problem-Based Learning approach, Contextual Teaching and Learning approach, mathematical communication ability, student’s learning motivation.

This research did from the low ability phenomena of mathematical communication of SMP in Purwakarta. The low skill ability of mathematical communication can be seen from the lack of students in completing the test of mathematical communication form to provided in the first research, the purpose of this research was to examined the improvement of CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) skill with traditional learning and the methodology of this research using quasi-experimental method which consist of two classes. The first is experiment class treated using CTL and the second is control class treated traditional learning. The population of the research taken was students of SMP Negeri 1 Babakan Cikao and a randomly selected sample of consist of 30 students of class VII A as the experiment. Class and 30 students of class VII D as control class. The instrument of this research used 6 items about mathematical communication description form, that has been tested the validity, reliability and distinguish of power form indexed difficulty. Based on the result of data analysis have concluded that the improvement of mathematical communication ability in SMP Negeri 1 Babakan Cikao by using CTL approach is better than traditional learning.

This study aims to examine the mathematical communication skills of students whose learning using Problem Based Learning approach GeoGebra assisted compared with using ordinary learning. This research is using the experimental method. Population in this research is a student of class X SMAN 1 Parongpong West Bandung academic year 2017/2018 with a sample of research is a student of class X SMAN 1 Parongpong consisting of class X Mia 1 as control class and X Mia 4 as experiment class is taken at random. The instrument used in this research is a test of mathematical communication ability in the form of problem description as much as 8 questions, as well as Self Confidence scale. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistic 1.7 for windows program. From this research, the following results are obtained: (1) Improvement of mathematical communication ability of students whose mathematical learning using geographic assisted PBL approach is better than using ordinary learning. The purpose of this research is to develop learning tools based for Algebra on Problem Based Learning (PBL) to support the mathematics communication ability of Junior High School students. Learning tools developed in this development research is students’ worksheets. The research method used is 4D model, which consists of 4 stages, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. The results of worksheets’ validation by experts were 4,05 for the layout design and 4,19 for the content (both were categorized as valid). In addition, the students respons that the students’ worksheets were practical (with average of 3,94) and the teacher responses that these were very practical (with average of 4,23). Thus, based on the expert validation as well as the students and teacher of mathematics responses, the learning tools developed have already met the criteria of valid and practical and ready for the field testing to see its effectiveness on students’ mathematics communication ability.

This study aims to describe: the development of Autograph-based learning tools is effective and able to improve mathematical communication skills. This research is development research with the Dick and Carey development model. This trial was conducted in class X RPL at vocational high school 14 Medan. From the results of test I and trial II, it was obtained: Autograph-based learning tools that were developed were effective, in terms of a) the criteria for student learning completeness were 86.11%; b) The achievement of learning objectives is more than 75%; c) students give a positive response; and d) the learning time is the same as the regular study time and (2) there is an increase in the average students' mathematical communication skills. Furthermore, it is suggested that teachers can use Autograph-based learning tools with problem-based learning models as an alternative to learning, with the guidance or questions are given that are affordable to students so that students understand more easily the contextual problems given.

Abstract: This study aims to improve the ability of mathematical communication by applying scientific approach in primary school. This study is a classroom action research. The subject of this research is all students of grade V of SD 016 Bangkinang Kota. The instrument used in data collection is a mathematical communication test of the description form. Implementation of learning carried out with 5 steps scientific approach that is: observing, asking, reasoning, try and communicate. This research data obtained from the results by using tests, observations, interviews, and discussions. This research was conducted for two cycles, ie cycle I held two meetings (6 x 35 minutes) and cycle II was held in two meetings (6 x 35 minutes). Result of research from every cycle that have been implemented seen improvement. This can be seen in the first cycle, the average value of students' communication skills is 92.61% percentage of students, and the meeting 2 percentage 62.54%. In the second cycle of meeting 1, the average value of mathematical communication ability is 8.71 with the percentage of 86% of students and on the second cycle of meeting 2, the average score of students' mathematical communication ability is 85 with the percentage of 97.20 students. Based on the observations made also seen the increase of student activeness in the learning process. Thus it can be concluded that the research by using scientific approach can improve students' mathematical communication skills Keyword:  Saintific approach, mathematics of communication  Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk  meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematik dengan menerapkan pendekatan saintifik di sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek penelitian ini  adalah seluruh siswa kelas V Sekolah dasar 016 Bangkinang Kota. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah tes komunikasi matematik bentuk uraian. Pelaksanaan pembelajaran dilaksanakan dengan  5 langkah pendekatan saintifik  yaitu: mengamati, menanya, menalar, mencoba dan mengkomunikasikan. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil dengan menggunakan tes, observasi, wawancara, dan diskusi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama dua siklus, yaitu  siklus I dilaksanakan dua kali pertemuan (6 x 35 menit) dan siklus II dilaksanakan dalam dua kali pertemuan (6 x 35 menit). Hasil penelitian dari setiap siklus yang telah dilaksanakan terlihat adanya peningkatan. Hal ini dapat dilihat pada siklus I , nilai rata-rata kemampuan komunikasi siswa adalah persentase 92,61% siswa,dan pertemuan 2 persentasenya 62,54% . Pada siklus II pertemuan 1, nilai rata-rata kemampuan komunikasi matematik adalah 8,71 dengan persentase 86% siswa dan pada siklus II pertemuan 2, nilai rata-rata kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa adalah 85 dengan persentase 97,20 siswa. Berdasarkan pengamatan yang dilakukan terlihat juga adanya peningkatan keaktifan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada penelitian dengan menggunakan pendekatan saintifik  dapat meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa.Kata Kunci:  Pendekatan saintifik, Kemampuan Komunikasi Matematik

This study aims to determine: (1) The differences in students' mathematical communication abilities by implementing Batak culture-oriented learning on problem-based learning (PBM-B3) and guided discovery (PT-B3) and (2) the interaction between learning models and students' gender towards students’ mathematical communication abilities. This research is quasi-experimental. The population of this study was first-grade students of SMP Swasta Putri Cahaya 2018/2019 with a sample taken from class VII-1 treated with the PBM-B3 learning model and class VII-2 treated with PT-B3 learning model. Each class consists of 14 male students and 14 female students. The research instrument used was a test of students' mathematical communication abilities. Data analysis was performed using covariance analysis (ANACOVA). Based on the research conducted, the results showed that: (1) There were differences in the students' mathematical communication abilities who were treated with the PBM-B3 and PT-B3 learning model after controlling the initial abilities of students. The interaction patterns of Dalihan Na Tolu found in the two learning models showed a positive effect on students' mathematical communication abilities because this interaction pattern is inherent in students which resulted in higher self-confidence in communicating ideas during problem-solving. (2) There was an interaction between the learning model and the gender of students on their mathematical communication abilities after controlling the initial abilities of students.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach on students' mathematical communication ability. The method used was quasi-experimental research with Posttest-Only Design. The subjects were 36 seventh grade students in one of Junior High Schools in Ternate. Students were grouped as control class (conventional learning) and experimental class (Problem Based-Learning / PBL). Research instruments were initial mathematical ability and mathematical communication test. The data was analyzed using Two Way ANOVA. Results showed that students' understanding of triangle concept was still not deep. Statistical analysis of the collected data showed that PBL effect on students' mathematical  communication  ability  was  insignificant  (p  =  0.370). Result  also  indicated  that  initial mathematical ability also has an insignificant effect on mathematical communication ability (p = 0.732). Keywords: geometry, mathematics communication ability, Problem Based-Learning.ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengkaji pengaruh pendekatan Problem Based-Learning (PBL) terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. This study was intended to produce a learner worksheet based on problem based learning with valid and practical, and to determine the potential effects on students mathematical connections ability in derivative material. This is development research type of formative research. The subjects of this research were students of class XI MIPA 1 SMAN 2 Palembang as many as 36 students. Data collection techniques used are interviews, document analysis, and test. The result of document and data analysis could be concluded that this research procuded worksheet based on problem based learning in derivative material valid and practical, and LKPD that had been developed had a potential effect on on students mathematical connections ability in derivative material. Therefore worksheet that had been developed can be used by the students.
