Interpersonal Communication Skills Training at the Assalafi Miftakhul Huda Islamic Boarding School in Grobogan Regency provides training to caregivers (senior santri) who will serve as peer guidance. Caregivers are trained to be ready listeners and good friends to help with problems related to other students. Active listening techniques are a specific skill that is trained by caregivers in helping students. Training activities were carried out using lecture and simulation methods on September 13, 2020. The training participants were 50 male and female caregivers. The participants seemed very enthusiastic during the activity. The results of the instrument analysis show that the participants reported the content of the material and the suitability of the written material and the presentation that the team did was the best point in this service activity. On the other hand, the participants stated that the training was too short and felt that they had not had the opportunity to practice. This is a recommendation for the implementation of further community service and needs to be done in a programmed and more intensive manner.

The effects of two short-term interpersonal skills training approaches on the verbal behavior of student speech-language pathologists were evaluated during peer interviews. Students who had participated in an experiential program in which they practiced specific verbal skills used significantly more verbal behaviors though to facilitate a helping relationship than did students whose training had consisted of observing and analyzing these verbal skills in clinical interactions. Comparisons with results of previous research suggest that length of training may be a crucial variable as students appear to need considerable time and practice to master the complex skills necessary for interpersonal effectiveness.

Abstract Background Healthcare workers (HCWs) are vulnerable to developing mental ill-health. Prior research has shown those in managerial or supervisory positions have pivotal roles in creating a healthy work environment, as well as recognizing and supporting HCWs with mental health symptoms to improve occupational outcomes and reduce sickness absence. Aims To evaluate the effectiveness of active listening skills training (REACTMH) for UK healthcare managers. Methods Managers of HCWs were voluntarily enrolled on a REACTMH active listening skills training package. Attendees anonymously completed questionnaires before and immediately after attending the 1-h remote training session and again 1 month later. The questionnaire asked about confidence in recognizing, conversing with and supporting distressed colleagues as well as perceived usefulness and importance of the training and how often they had used the taught active listening skills. Results Fifty-eight healthcare managers enrolled onto the REACTMH programme in July 2020 and 32 (55%) completed the 1-month follow-up. Just less than half reported feeling confident in being able to identify, speak to and support potentially distressed staff before the training; significantly more (>80%) reported feeling confident 1 month afterwards (P < 0.001). Around three-quarters of attendees reported the REACTMH programme as highly useful, highly important and said they had frequently used the learned skills. Conclusions A brief active listening skills training package was associated with significant improvements healthcare manager’s confidence in recognizing, speaking with and supporting HCWs with suspected mental health conditions. Further research is needed to investigate the longer term effectiveness and acceptability of REACTMH training.

One of the great traditions in Islamic education institutions in Indonesia is teaching by transmitting Islamic values as found in classical books written centuries ago. The majority in Indonesia, the classic book is better known as the Kitab Kuning. Teaching with the Kitab Kuning is usually done in Islamic Boarding Schools. Examining Kitab Kuning requires qualified Arabic language skills at least passively. Unfortunately, not all Islamic boarding schools that have a variety of superior programs in certain fields, are weak in the field of studying Kitab Kuning. One of them is the Islamic Boarding School Mu'allimin Muhammadiyyah Sawah Dangka which has the flagship Tahfizh Alquran program but is weak in the study of Kitab Kuning. One of the main factors is the lack of adequate quality of human resources. For this reason, this community service activity aims to provide training while introducing new, lightweight methods in learning Arabic, namely the Bihaqatil Jumal method. This method emphasizes learning Arabic using the right brain. After a series of community service activities, teachers and Islamic boarding schools felt helped and gained new experiences in learning Arabic methods to study Kitab Kuning. In addition, both the assisted object and the resource person requested that this kind of community service be continued.
