The specific previous studies conducted by 4 teacher-searchers in Information Science and Semiotics find a convergence ground with a study on uses of the institutional portal Persée. Visual ergonomics, hypertext organization, disposition of the semiotics and instrumental communication are the key aspects of this study and form the base of the implementation of the portal new version.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broad and complex area of study, which can be difficult for non-specialists to understand. Yet, its ultimate promise is to create computer systems that manifest human intelligence. This chapter coins “Machinzation” for the application of literary machine (computer) to human operations. This clearly has major implications for library and information science profession. In principle and practice, AI has penetrated virtually all walks of human life. Many authors have previously provided in-depth overviews of AI technologies. Service is the vocal point of librarianship and particularly in the era where information is the fifth and most important factor of production. Cloud computing stems from the principle of AI while when applied into the operations and routines in libraries and information center gives a brand new concept “CloudLibrarianship.” The new concept is dealt with in this work. Emergence of this concept opens up the entrepreneur opportunities in the information sector of the economy-inforpreneurship. This chapter therefore examines certain key aspects of AI that determine its potential utility as a tool for enhancing and supporting library operations.

Intellectual capital is now widely recognized as key factor in organization success and as such is of relevance to libraries. Intellectual capital management, therefore, is of great relevance to library and information professions. However, the wider ramification of the relationship between intellectual capital management (ICM), knowledge management (KM), and library and information science (LIS) is yet to be properly exploited by LIS professionals. Without doubt, there is a dynamic and multi-faceted relationship. This chapter introduces key aspects of this relationship, and in particular potential synergies, conflicts in literature, pre-requisites for ICM implementation in libraries and challenges faced by the library and information professions. In the light of this, the author concluded that LIS professionals must see KM and ICM as an integral part of librarianship. More so, in order for LIS professionals to properly implement ICM practices, there is the need to acquire new management skills, strategic and policy-making skills, and have in-depth experience in the management of information. Finally, from the author's perspective, the success of ICM and KM in library organizations would require strong leadership and vision from top administration, which will influence the organization's sharing efforts as a culture.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to elaborate the picture of strategies for information searching and seeking by reviewing the conceptualizations on this topic in the field of library and information science (LIS). Design/methodology/approach The study draws on Henry Mintzberg’s idea of strategy as plan and strategy as pattern in a stream of actions. Conceptual analysis of 57 LIS investigations was conducted to find out how researchers have approached the above aspects in the characterizations of information search and seeking strategies. Findings In the conceptualizations of information search and information seeking strategies, the aspect of strategy as plan is explicated most clearly in text-book approaches describing the steps of rational web searching. Most conceptualizations focus on the aspect of strategy as pattern in a stream of actions. This approach places the main emphasis on realized strategies, either deliberate or emergent. Deliberate strategies indicate how information search or information seeking processes were oriented by intentions that existed previously. Emergent strategies indicate how patterns in information seeking and seeking developed in the absence of intentions, or despite them. Research limitations/implications The conceptualizations of the shifts in information seeking and searching strategies were excluded from the study. Similarly, conceptualizations of information search or information retrieval tactics were not examined. Originality/value The study pioneers by providing an in-depth analysis of the ways in which the key aspects of strategy are conceptualized in the classifications and typologies of information seeking and searching strategies. The findings contribute to the elaboration of the conceptual space of information behaviour research.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to put forward the position of chief learning officer (CLO) as a potential new role or models for new roles in libraries wishing to integrate human resources, strategic planning, and budgeting. Design/methodology/approach The paper reviews the history and present functions of the CLO role in the corporate world, correlating work within the library field with key aspects of the position as way by which to conceptualize the integration of disparate library operations. Findings The position of CLO has not yet entered the library and information science (LIS) discourse. Practical implications Libraries that do not have CLO-like positions in their organizations may benefit from adopting or adapting the position to their libraries. Originality/value The paper introduces the CLO position to the field of LIS.

The literature review gives the background to the research process, which consisted of three main aspects to find out the theoretical background essential to this project. These aspects were: ontological engineering, Information Science, and Communities of Practice within knowledge management. The following sections provide an overview of key literature relevant to this project. Firstly, however, the background starts with some basic definitions to establish what is meant by ontology and what the significance of creating ontology is. The survey will come back to the three key aspects of this study and review literature on these; firstly, ontology.

Though in the present age the Internet is an important resource for gathering information, there are also plenty of significant and helpful traditional sources. The best data collection strategy in information broker activity is one that employs techniques from both. The first part of the text is focused on the methodology of obtaining information. The author points out the place of information broker in the information process. One of the key aspects of the following analysis is an attempt to indicate the main definitions and classifications of the traditional sources of information in a field of historical knowledge as well as in the information science. The second part of the article considers information broker professional qualifications, since for him is important to know how to search, gather and integrate information from institution such as the national and private archives, libraries or museums.
