Database technologies are a core component of computing technology curricula. Their importance will only continue to expand as more and more data are retained in database systems. An effective database system is predicated on a good data model. Database design is the conceptualization of an underlying data model that progresses from identifying user requirements to graphically depicting those requirements and finally mapping the graphical models to a set of tables implemented in a physical database system. The abstract nature of much of database design makes it challenging to teach. This paper presents a set of software animations designed to support the teaching of database design concepts. Topic areas covered include mapping problem descriptions to Entity Relationship (ER) diagrams, mapping ER diagrams to tables, normalization and denormalization and comparison of various ER notation sets. The animations are fairly intuitive to use and are independent of any specific database text or product. They are intended to provide supplemental instructional support and also provide students with additional learning opportunities.

This study aims at designing a database system processes sales, inventory, and goods tracking in accordance with the needs of PT Citra Abadi Abhimata, as well as building the application program. This system records each process in a flow of goods, ranging from the entry of the principal goods until the goods are sold to end customers plus goods tracking. This study uses the fact finding method carried out by a direct field study at the company concerned, interviews with relevant parties, studying the company’s documentation, and literary study of textbooks. Furthermore, database design uses the three design concepts (conceptual design, logical design and physical design), as well as the interface design to create the application program. The result obtained is a data base system and application that can improve the company’s performance since data is stored on a regular basis so that it can be easily obtained when needed. The existence of this database design, along with related application, makes the company easier to manage data and monitor the process of goods flow and produce better work.

Abstract An engineering database modeling telephone outside plant networks is developed. Semantic and relational database design methodologies are used with the semantic data model developed based on an extended entity-relationship approach. This logical model is used to generate a normalized relational data structure. This database holds engineering data supporting engineering analyses, engineering work order generation procedures, and network planning activities. The database has been linked to separate network analysis programs and CAD-based network maps by a database application.

Several application domains hold highly connected data, like supply chain and social network. In this context, NoSQL graph databases raise as a promising solution since relationships are first class citizens in their data model. Nevertheless, a traditional database design methodology initially defines a conceptual schema of the domain data, and the Enhanced Entity-Relationship (EER) model is a common tool. This paper presents a rule-based conversion process from an EER schema to Neo4j schema constraints, as Neo4j is the most representative NoSQL graph database management system with an expressive data model. Different from related work, our conversion process deals with all EER model concepts and generates rules for ensuring schema constraints through a set of Cypher instructions ready to run into a Neo4j database instance, as Neo4J is a schemaless system, and it is not possible to create a schema a priori. We also present an experimental evaluation that demonstrates the viability of our process in terms of performance.

Recently in our country, the construction of buildings become more complex and it seems that strata objects database becomes more important in registering the real world as people now own and use multilevel of spaces. Furthermore, strata title was increasingly important and need to be well-managed. LADM is a standard model for land administration and it allows integrated 2D and 3D representation of spatial units. LADM also known as ISO 19152. The aim of this paper is to develop a strata objects database using LADM. This paper discusses the current 2D geospatial database and needs for 3D geospatial database in future. This paper also attempts to develop a strata objects database using a standard data model (LADM) and to analyze the developed strata objects database using LADM data model. The current cadastre system in Malaysia includes the strata title is discussed in this paper. The problems in the 2D geospatial database were listed and the needs for 3D geospatial database in future also is discussed. The processes to design a strata objects database are conceptual, logical and physical database design. The strata objects database will allow us to find the information on both non-spatial and spatial strata title information thus shows the location of the strata unit. This development of strata objects database may help to handle the strata title and information.

Data management has experienced three stages: labor management, file systems, and database systems. In this paper, manage equipment data using a combination of HDFS file system and HBase database: the principles of HBase data management is studied; equipment data’s reading and writing processes is established; data model of equipment database is designed based on HBase.

Abstract This paper gives an overview of an integrated and intelligent database system for a plant engineering framework. We have integrated existing two-dimensional (2D) CAD systems, a three-dimensional (3D) CAD system, and a relational database system which stores engineering information such as design conditions, maintenance histories, and inherent properties. By integrating these systems, the infrastructure for concurrent engineering has been realized. As for design knowledge, we treat object-oriented programming as a useful knowledge representation method. We analyze the plant structure and functional requirements of the system, and then represented them by using the hierarchical Class structure. Design knowledge accompanies the Class, so we represent it using Method. As a design automation system, we develop an automated design check system. This is implemented by using the Common Lisp Object System. These systems are the main parts of the plant engineering framework, and are utilized in the practical design. We intend to develop a mechanical/electronic design framework using the same approach.
