The objective of this paper is to report findings from simulating and testing local area network (LAN) connectivity using Windows XP operating system and Cisco Networking Academy network devices. In this study, a simple routing protocol, RIP, is used as routing protocol. Two different techniques, Cisco Networking Academy hardware lab and Cisco Packet Tracer 4, were used to compare their performance to simulate network connectivity. Primary findings showed that the settings of the Windows XP firewall on the host computer have a direct impact on the test results. These findings are critical as there are no similar reports in the literature and only a careful investigation allowed the researchers to come to this conclusion. Furthermore, study results also offer suggestions for fixing problems that hinder simulation results of LANs that use Windows XP workstations. These findings can help CCNA students and faculty understand the reasons for unexplained connectivity problems when performing CCNA labs. The study also provides a simple method to avoid connectivity problems when using Windows ping.exe and tracert.exe which implement the TCP/IP protocol ICMP

Sekolah SMK Nusantara 1 Kotabumi merupakan (sekolah menengah atas ). SMK Nusantara 1 Kotabumi pada awalnya mengguankan jaringan komputer hanya dirungan TU (tata usaha, seiring bertambahnya kebutuhan, saat ini jaringan tersebut berkembang ke hampir semua bagian dari SMK Nusantara 1 Kotabumi. Meningkatkan tingkat kemajuan dan jumlah pengguna jaringan dan mengingatkan suatu bentuk jaringan yang dapat memberikan hasil maksimal baik dari segi efisien dan meningkatkan keamanan jaringan itu sendiri. Jadi jika kita perlu instruktur jaringan yang baik  yang dapat menjawab kebutuhan itu. Sebuah instruktur jaringan harus mampu melayani lebih bayak pengguna, aplikasi dan workstation. Penelitina ini ditunjukan untuk memperlajari sedikit banyaknya mengenai Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) yang dapat membantu manajer jaringan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan-kebutuhan yang telah disebutkan di atas, untuk meningkatkan kinerja jaringan ( network  perfomance ) secara keseluruhan. VLAN segmentasi menyediakan jaringan yanng fleksibel dan dinamais yang mengakibatkan perubahan mendasar dalam cara LAN dirancang, dilaksanakan dan dikelolah.

Due to the problem of network structure, security, redundant path in traditional network, this can be solved by Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) technology. As the network laboratory in colleges and universities is not perfect because of high cost, a virtual simulation tools named Packet Tracer has been introduced to computer network experimental curriculum, this paper put forwards the detail design scheme by the example of VLAN with three switches, and provides the experiment and theoretical analysis and simulation verification .The practice has proved this method not only deepens students comprehension of network, but also cultivates the students' actual comprehensive ability.

A diversity of technical advances in the field of network and systems virtualization have made it possible to consolidate and manage resources in an unprecedented scale. These advances have started to come out of the data centers, spreading towards the network service provider (NSP) and telecommunications operator infrastructure foundations, from the core to the edge networks, the access network, and the customer premises LAN (local area network). In this context, the residential gateway (RGW) constitutes an ideal candidate for virtualization, as it stands between the home LAN and the access network, imposing a considerable cost for the NSP while constituting a single point of failure for all the services offered to residential customers. This chapter presents the rationale for the virtual RGW (vRGW) concept, providing an overview of past and current implementation proposals and discussing how recent technological developments in key areas such as networking and virtualization have given a competitive edge to a RGW virtualization scenario, when compared with traditional deployments.

ABSTRAKThe utilization of computer network technology as a medium of communication of data is currently increasing. The stage of this research, looking for gather what is required to the configuration of Inter Virtual Local Area Network using OSPF routing. In addition to the research stage of the write also do a method of drafting the system, the method used is a method of PPDIOO. PPDIOO is the methodology developed by cisco system (cisco, 2005)Based on the desire, consummation hence efforts continue to be done by various parties. By utilizing a variety of techniques subnetting particularly, configuration, the use of routing OSPF and use of hardware better, another switches between the emergence of the concept of an area of Inter Virtual Network (Inter VLAN) that is expected to provide tissue that broader, large and better results than Local Area Network (LAN)

In this research, the object was taken from one of the hotels in Palembang, namely Harvani Hotel Palembang. This hotel is one of the hotels in South Sumatra Province, where this hotel has 4 floors. Harvani Hotel Palembang has a Local Area Network (LAN) which consists of several computers where LAN is very important to be applied to Harvani Hotel Palembang in order to support administrative work processes (management of hotel data, employee data, guest data to financial data) and guest needs (internet usage in every room of the Hotel which is one of the services provided by Harvani Hotel Palembang). However, the LAN owned by the Harvani Hotel Palembang still has disadvantages, such as LAN still cannot reach every hotel room on the 2nd floor. In addition, the administration side also faces obstacles because each floor of the Harvani Hotel Palembang has its own administrative section and then at the end of each work shift, reports from each administrative section are submitted to the administrative department on the 1st floor using external storage media. Therefore, it is necessary to redesign the Harvani Hotel Palembang LAN by applying the Top Down Approach Method. The results of LAN redesign in this research will be displayed using Cisco Packet Tracer simulator software, where from the simulation results it can be seen that the new design of the Harvani LAN Hotel Palembang has connected the entire computer of each room and every floor of the Hotel. Therefore, if the results of this simulation are applied to Harvani Hotel Palembang, then the administrative work process can be managed directly directly because all data has been stored on the database server. In addition, this new LAN design has also reached all guest rooms of Harvani Hotel Palembang, so guests can access the internet in their respective rooms more comfortably

Computer network using LAN has limitations in terms of the large number of computers that will be connected to the switch equipment. This limitation can be overcome by connecting the LAN between each other using a router. Networks inter LAN still pose a problem in terms of safety, although the amount can be overcome. To overcome the problem requires a LAN in a small group that is often known as Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN). VLAN can be connected as is often done on the LAN in general with the addition of some equipment that is able to be used as the connecting or known by the name of inter-VLAN. inter-VLAN configuration can be done directly and indirectly. the configuration directly by configuring the network equipment such as switches and routers, while the indirect configuration can be done using packet tracer. In doing inter-VLAN configuration requires a command performed by an administrator. Commands that is configured on the network equipment is a command that is still a command line or a particular script. For people who have not worked as a network administrator needed a software Graphics User Interface (GUI) for ease in studying network administration. Software Graphics User Interface (GUI) can facilitate a person who has worked as an administrator to configure inter-VLAN.

Koneksi merupakan suatu hal yang mendasar dalam suatu jaringan karena bila koneksi bermasalah, maka semua jenis aplikasi yang dijalankan melalui jaringan komputer tidak dapat digunakan. Cisco Packet Tracer dapat digunakan untuk simulasi yang mencerminkan gambaran dari koneksi jaringan komputer pada sistem jaringan yang digunakan. Paper ini merancang dua buah perancangan, yakni perancangan dengan topologi Star dari satu server menggunakan software Cisco Packet Tracer dan menghubungkan jaringan antar komputer. LAN tergolong jaringan komunikasi kecepatan tinggi dan sifatnya dipengaruhi oleh media transmisi bersama dengan topologi dan protokol yang digunakan. Topologi yang digunakan dalam jaringan yang terbentuk di SMK TARUNA PEKANBARU adalah topologi bintang atau star, dan Jaringan Local Area Network (LAN) yang ada pada SMK TARUNA PEKANBARU.
