Locomotor disabilities are one among the many disabilities in which the body movements are hampered. These disabilities can have detrimental effects on the functioning of individuals. It can affect the self-esteem of an individual and consequently lead to poor adjustment and sometimes maladjustment. Considering the detrimental effects of locomotor disabilities on the effective functioning of individuals the researchers have conceptualized the present study. This investigation aim is to study how intervention in terms of adjustments and aspiration can help in enhancing the well being of locomotor disabled persons. This study is conducted in two phases. In the 1st phase 100 locomotor disabled people from Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Physically Disabled, Hyderabad were approached and using standardized tools their adjustment and level of aspiration was obtained. Subsequently after analyzing the data it was found that 63 people had poor adjustment and low level of aspiration. Appropriate psychological counseling interventions were planned and were provided to these subjects on individual basis. Once again the adjustment questionnaire and level of aspiration questionnaire were administered, between pre and post measures of adjustment and level of aspiration in which a significant difference was found. Thus, this study revealed that intervention like counseling helps to enhance the well being of people with locomotor disability.

Background: Uveal melanoma and its treatment can influence the physical and psychological well-being of patients in a way that differs from other cancers. Factors influencing quality of life (QOL) include visual impairment, changes in appearance, day-to-day functioning, ocular discomfort, and worry regarding disease recurrence. Objective: We aimed to study both general and disease-specific QOL in uveal melanoma patients in Ireland and compare QOL between a plaque radiotherapy group and an enucleation treatment group. This information was sought to enhance our understanding of QOL issues for uveal melanoma patients, in the context of improving care and providing appropriate psychosocial support. Method: The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) QOL questionnaires QLQ-C30 and QLQ-OPT30 were completed by patients with uveal melanoma treated by enucleation or brachytherapy. Results: 138 of 206 patients completed the questionnaires. There was no significant difference in QOL scores between treatment groups. Thirty-two percent of patients reported concerns about tumour recurrence elsewhere in the body. The brachytherapy group had a significantly higher “role functioning” score (p = 0.030). Enucleation patients were more likely to have problems with appearance (p < 0.0005). Younger patients (12–54 years of age) were more likely to report headaches (p < 0.0005) and problems with reading (p = 0.042), and they had a lower cognitive functioning score (p = 0.003) than those aged ≥55 years. Conclusions: There was no significant difference in reported QOL between treatment groups. Our data identified a number of vulnerable patient subgroups. By anticipating which patients are more likely to suffer in terms of certain aspects of their QOL, we are better able to provide appropriate and timely psychosocial support.

This study aims to determine whether the number of daily steps is effective in the body composition and mental well-being of university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research group of the study consisted of 40 volunteer students studying at the Faculty of Sport Sciences by being randomly assigned to the experimental (n:20) and control (n:20) groups. The research is in the experimental model with a pre-test/post-test control group. As a data collection tool in the study, the 'Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale' was used to determine the personal information form and mental well-being. The obtained data were analysed in the Jamovi 1.8.2 statistical software program with a 95% reliability interval and 5% margin of error. In the analysis of the data, percentage (%), frequency (f), and mean (x̄) values were used in the descriptive data, Paired Samples t-test was used in the pre-test/post-test comparison, and Multinomial Regression analysis was used in the relational analysis. According to the findings of the study, 75% of the students in the experimental group and 70% of the students in the control group were in the normal weight class according to the body mass index classification. According to waist-hip ratio classification, 85% of the experimental group and 70% of the control group were in the group that did not have cardiovascular disease risk. After two months of application, the daily average number of steps of the experimental group (12.5751898.1) and the daily average number of steps of the control group were determined as (5381.272026.2). While there was a statistically significant difference in the pre-test/post-test body mass index averages of the experimental group who were asked to take at least 10,000 steps per day (p0.05), although there was an increase in the mean waist-hip ratio and mental well-being, there was no statistically significant difference (p0.05). It was determined that the step average had a statistically significant effect on the experimental group according to the body mass index classification (p0.05). As a result, while taking at least 10,000 steps per day was effective in the body mass index of the students, it was not so in the waist-hip ratio and mental well-being. In this context, physical activity, and especially walking, can be recommended at the point of protecting health.

Article visualizations:

Worldwide, December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Back in 1982, a 10-year Action Program for Persons with Disabilities, called the «Decade of Disabled Persons», was adopted, and at its end in 1992, the General Assembly proclaimed December 3 the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The task of this day was to promote the rights of persons with disabilities in all spheres of public life, as well as to draw the attention of the general public to the problems of disabled people. Every year there are more and more people with disabilities, for instance, in the Russian Federation alone, the total number of disabled people is 9 % of the population. Some people resign themselves to their fate and close themselves within the walls of their home, while others continue to lead an active life, unwilling to change anything in their usual way in connection with their new status. Such strong-minded people master new professions, acquire previously unknown skills, and try to expand their horizons in various available ways. What is more, some unique personalities in a desire to prove to others, and first of all to themselves, that disability is not destiny even take part in sports competitions organized specifically for people with disabilities. While participation in the Olympics, and even more so victory in it, is a matter of prestige and world recognition for any famous athlete, participation in the Paralympic Games for a disabled person primarily means the victory of the spirit over the body, victory over their own helplessness and weakness, recognition of the fact of beauty and the value of life.

Introduction: Oral health, the mirror of general well being, is altered by many mediators like infection, chronic inflammation, and genetic predisposition. The present dietary pattern among children is contributing to childhood overweight as well as increasing the risk for developing dental caries. The food habits contributing to dental caries as well as obesity are similar. Undernutrition has also shown to be associated with the dental caries. The study was conducted to investigate the relationship of body mass index to dental caries. Methods: A cross sectional clinical study was conducted on 7 to 12 year old children, studying in public schools, visiting the Department of Pediatric Dentistry for a routine dental check up. The study evaluated the nutritional status by calculating the body mass index using the formula BMI= Weight (kg)/Height2 (m2). Then their Body Mass Index and correlated with the Dental caries status using WHO criteria for decayed, missing and filled teeth index. Data analysis was done by SPSS 20 software program. Results: Total of 251 children between 7 to 12 years were evaluated. The mean age of the participants was 9.12 years. No statistically significant result was found on comparing the nutritional status to dental caries (P=0.43). A statistically significant difference though was found on comparing dental caries status among gender (P=0.021) as well different age groups (P=0.031).Conclusions: The study showed the presence of more normal and underweight children but there was no statistically significant association between body mass index and decayed, missing and filled teeth index.

The expert characteristics of the clinical and functional status of the military personnel for the first time recognized as disabled in 2016 because of «military trauma» are considered. It is known that the objectification of methods of expert rehabilitation diagnosis in the implementation of medical and social expertise in the establishment of disability and the development of individual programs of rehabilitation/habilitation of disabled people-one of the main objectives of the concept of «Improvement of the state system of medical and social expertise and rehabilitation of disabled people.» In accordance with this provision, clinical and expert indicators are analyzed, confirmed by the data of expert rehabilitation diagnostics, allowing to objectify the impaired functions and structures of the body of soldiers who have received a military injury, when examined in the Bureau of medical and social expertise. The main clinical and functional syndromes that have expert significance and have influenced the adoption of expert decisions in the establishment of disability groups are presented. The article describes in detail the contraindicated and shown factors of the recommended labor activity, which should be guided in the employment of disabled people from among the former soldiers. The use of evidence-based recommendations in practice makes it possible to determine the forms and conditions of employment in normal or specially created working conditions for the rational employment and socialization of servicemen who have become disabled. Referring to the updated normative legal acts, taking into account the principle of inseparability of the medical and social examination procedure from the formation of individual programs of rehabilitation/habilitation of disabled persons, the authors illustrate the possibilities of professional rehabilitation and employment of military personnel who have different groups of disability due to «military trauma».

The word border may be the most constraining on human thought and action in history. Whether borders on territory, borders from ideologies, from politics, or anything else; they all condition action and thinking. I want to focus on the many borders that humans erect, walls that we construct, and how they block flows and processes that constitute life and well-being. If this were a conference on sustainability or ecology, I would go on about how human borders, especially administrative and infrastructural ones, block ecological flows and processes and thus harm biological life, including humans. Most ancient traditions of wellness and health, including Ayurvedic, Tantric, Chinese, Greek, and Persian, stressed the free flow of energy. Blockage of flows in the body were sources of illness and disease. Borders of all kinds are infused into virtually every thing that humans create, from organizations and institutions to customs and traditions. Yet the most constraining borders of all are the borders on our own thinking. After addressing several essential characteristics of borders, a number of policies and actions are suggested for dealing with political conflicts and humanitarian crises related to borders.

Abstract Comprehensive accounts of resource-rational attempts to maximise utility shouldn't ignore the demands of constructing utility representations. This can be onerous when, as in humans, there are many rewarding modalities. Another thing best not ignored is the processing demands of making functional activity out of the many degrees of freedom of a body. The target article is almost silent on both.

Stress in caregivers may affect the healthcare recipients receive. We examined the impact of stress experienced by 45 adult caregivers of their elderly demented parents. The participants completed a 32-item questionnaire about the impact of experienced stress. The questionnaire also asked about interventions that might help to reduce the impact of stress. After exploratory factor analysis, we reduced the 32-item questionnaire to 13 items. Results indicated that caregivers experienced stress, anxiety, and sadness. Also, emotional, but not financial or professional, well-being was significantly impacted. There was no significant difference between the impact of caregiver stress on members from the sandwich generation and those from the nonsandwich generation. Meeting with a social worker for resource availability was identified most frequently as a potentially helpful intervention for coping with the impact of stress.
