ManuscriptSchizotypal personality traits correlate with psychopathology and impaired functional outcome. Yet advantageous aspects of positive schizotypy may exist which could promote resilience and creativity, and several studies have identified a high positive but low negative schizotypy group with some signs of adaptation. The aim of our study was to clarify whether such individuals demonstrate only adaptive features, or they also have maladaptive traits, putatively compensated by protective factors. Participants (N = 643 students, 71.5% female) completed measures of schizotypy, resilience, self-esteem, self-concept clarity, absorption, maladaptive personality traits and anxiety sensitivity. We identified four clusters: an overall low schizotypy, an overall high schizotypy, a disorganised-interpersonal schizotypy and a positive schizotypy cluster. The overall high schizotypy cluster seemed to be the most vulnerable as it was the least resilient and showed widespread maladaptation, whereas the high positive schizotypy cluster had intact self-esteem and high resilience and its elevated absorption may hold the promise for adaptive outcomes such as creativity and positive spirituality. Positive schizotypy was linked to dysfunctional cognitive schemas only in the high schizotypy cluster, suggesting that psychotic experiences might be less distressing for the positive schizotypy group. However, the high positive schizotypy cluster also exhibited maladaptive personality traits and lacked self-concept clarity. The results suggest that individuals showing high positive and low negative schizotypy are characterised by a mixture of adaptive and maladaptive features. Better understanding of these factors could be informative for prevention and treatment of psychosis-spectrum disorders.

Summary: My comment is basically restricted to the situation in which less-able students find themselves and refers only to literature in German. From this point of view I am basically able to confirm Marsh's results. It must, however, be said that with less-able pupils the opposite effect can be found: Levels of self-esteem in these pupils are raised, at least temporarily, by separate instruction, academic performance however drops; combined instruction, on the other hand, leads to improved academic performance, while levels of self-esteem drop. Apparently, the positive self-image of less-able pupils who receive separate instruction does not bring about the potential enhancement of academic performance one might expect from high-ability pupils receiving separate instruction. To resolve the dilemma, it is proposed that individual progress in learning be accentuated, and that comparisons with others be dispensed with. This fosters a self-image that can in equal measure be realistic and optimistic.

This study aimed to explore how adolescents performed towards their identity as learners in Sukma Bangsa School Pidie (SBP) through a phenomenographic approach. More specifically, the research had purpose to understand the way adolescents construct their learning identity in a school environment. The findings suggested that there were variations in the way adolescents experienced their learning identity that might encourage them to achieve different degrees of motivation, self-perceptions (self-efficacy, self-concept, and self-esteem), autonomy, and self-development towards their identity as learners. In this study, students exhibited a high level of self-efficacy and self-development, an average level of self-esteem and autonomy, and close to an average level of self-concept and motivation in constructing their identity as learners. The students also revealed that the highest accomplishment of their experiences was in showing their confidence towards learning attitude, whereas the lowest one was in adult attachment. Adult attachment therefore is pivotal to moderate students who have either low willingness to study or low self-conception.[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pembentukan identitas remaja sebagai peserta didik di Sekolah Sukma Bangsa Pidie (SBP) melalui pendekatan fenomenografi.

Several studies have examined the role of self-esteem in self-disclosure while overlooking a potentially important confounding variable: self-concept clarity. Across three studies, we found an association between self-concept clarity and self-disclosure to one’s romantic partner. This incremental effect held even when the variance attributable to self-esteem was statistically controlled in a multiple regression analysis. Moreover, in two of the three studies, self-esteem was no longer a significant predictor of self-disclosure after controlling for the variance in self-concept clarity. These data suggest that self-concept clarity is an important predictor of self-disclosure—one that is conceptually and empirically distinct from self-esteem. That self-concept clarity tended to supplant self-esteem in the multiple regression models suggests that disclosing the specific aspects of the self that one clearly perceives (one’s attributes, goals, motives, values, etc.) might be more essential to everyday self-disclosure than disclosing only whether one has a globally positive or negative self-view. Future research should explore the causal relationships involved with the aid of experimental studies.
