Loss of a loved one is a very painful and often a traumatic experience for most of the people. The burden of the loss can be carried over a life time or laid down. Grief is a profound and complex response for those who have been left behind. There found different gender reactions in grief and traumatic event. Women tend to experience more intense emotional reactions such as shock, denial, anger, depression that may linger on for quite some time, especially when they were widow and mother. Individuals grieve differently, yet coping with bereavement depends upon the personal characteristics, available support, coping mechanism, faith and self concept of sufferers. Using the case study approach, this article explores the grief, trauma (psychological response) and coping pattern among bereaved women while struggling with the loss. The cases of three Muslim women widowed during the last one year were analyzed. Findings highlight the importance of social support, religious or spiritual beliefs, traumatic growth in bereavement and coping with the loss of a family member.

Pagrindiniai žodžiai: trauma, potrauminis stresas, potrauminis augimas.RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRAUMA EXPOSURE, POSTTRAUMATIC GROWTH AND POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDEREvaldas Kazlauskas, Irma Šimėnaitė, Danutė Gailienė SummaryObjectives: The notion that traumatic experiences may have an impact on human mind is very old. Recent developments in psychotraumatology shifted the approach to a trauma from a purely negative to a more positive perspective. Research confirmed that traumatic events may lead not only to posttraumatic stress or other disorders, but also to positive changes. The present research was based on the concept of Posttraumatic Growth developed by Calhoun and Tedeschi (1996), which is widely known in the field of traumatic stress. Although the number of Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) research is growing rapidly, little is known about Posttraumatic Growth predictors. The present research was designed to find out the links between Posttraumatic Growth, Posttraumatic Stress and initial reactions to the traumatic event. We set up two goals of the study: 1) evaluation of how initial traumatic reactions predict PTG, and 2) assessment of links between PTG and PTSD.Methods: A group of 104 university students exposed to at least one life-time traumatic event participated in the study. The average time gap between exposure to a traumatic event and the time of research was 43 months. The intensity of initial reactions to a traumatic event was measured using a 10-item selfrating inventory developed by the authors of the present study. The Subjective Traumatic Experience (STE) inventory consisted of items covering cognitive, emotional and physiological reactions to a traumatic event. Posttraumatic Growth was measured using the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PGI) developed by Tedeschi and Calhoun (1996). Previous research showed satisfactory psychometric properties of the Lithuanian version of PGI (Gailienë & Kazlauskas, 2005). Posttraumatic Stress Disorder was measured using the Lithuanian version of Impact of Event Scale – Revised (IES-R). A recent validation of the IES-R on Lithuanian population showed its good psychometric properties (Kazlauskas et al., 2006).

This study examined the usability challenges and emotional reactions blind college students experienced in accessing educational materials and communicating with professors and colleagues through online technologies. A case study approach was adopted. Five students were interviewed regarding their online learning experiences using Blackboard, a popular Course Management System. Analysis of the interviews revealed that the blind students found Blackboard poorly accessible, which affected their academic achievements. However, despite their frustrations and feelings of marginalization, the study also showed that the blind students were motivated and optimistic of their successes. The research suggests that academic administrators and CMS designers work jointly with adaptive software developers to create enhanced user interfaces, ensure universal access and usability of online technologies, and reduce educational inequities and frustrations encountered by blind students.

This essay explores ways in which musicologists might extend work undertaken by humanities scholars in the interdisciplinary field of trauma studies that has highlighted the centrality of traumatic experience to modernist creativity. It is focussed around a case study of a musical composition that represents the emotional aftermath of a traumatic event, the Sixth Symphony of the Soviet composer Nikolay Myaskovsky (1923). A central concern is to demonstrate how the symphony’s musical symbolism is strikingly evocative of typical features of post-traumatic mentation, such as dissociation and emotional numbing, and the inhibition of the ability to mourn. It closes by considering the potential implications of the findings for understanding work by other modernist composers.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide an assessment of a one-year pilot exploring the joint purchase of e-books via demand-driven acquisition (DDA) conducted by engineering librarians from seven members of the Borrow Direct interlibrary loan partnership. Also provided are observations that may inform future initiatives of a similar nature. Design/methodology/approach – The author presents a case study approach and examination of the results. Findings – The pilot was discontinued as a result of dissatisfaction with its configuration, but it did offer significant financials savings as well as provide accessible copies of mutually acquired titles to each member. The pilot also offered several lessons that can inform future joint e-book endeavors. Originality/value – Multi-institutional joint e-book DDA acquisition has been attempted elsewhere; however, what is unique about this pilot is that it was managed by seven independent institutions without a central legal entity to oversee it. This paper is a follow-up to the author’s presentation at the 80th IFLA World Library and Information Congress, August 16-22, 2014, in Lyon, France.

This study aims to determine the description of self-awareness and faking behavior in employee job interviews. This study uses a qualitative research method with a case study approach. The main subjects in this study were 5 people with the following characteristics: employees who have just worked for less than one year. The results showed that the subject showed a different picture of self-awareness and faking behavior in several aspects. Subjects are able to understand themselves, set life and career goals, build relationships with others, build diversity values, be able to balance their own needs with job demands, and develop self-control over appropriate stimuli. Meanwhile, in faking behavior during job interviews, subjects tend to prioritize physical appearance during the interview, ability to communicate and cover up negative self-images during the interview.

Individuals bereaved by violent death have a higher risk of developing psychopathology. Consistent data concerning the subjective experience during the traumatic event of the death are still scarce. This study aimed to explore the traumatic experience of the violent death of a loved one. Nine reports of patients bereaved by violence were selected and transcribed. Reports were analyzed using Bardin’s Content Analysis. Two final categories were generated. It was observed that most participants remembered details about the traumatic event or the time they were told about the violent death. There were two factors described as important when coping with the loss, social support during the traumatic event, and receiving detailed information from the authorities and others present in that moment. This study provides relevant data for future interventions during violent situations by health and security professionals.

This research using qualitative method with case study approach case study. Resilience is the ability of a person to successfully copyng and revived from their unpleasant experience. Collecting data technique using interview and observation. Data analyze technique using coding, organizing data, thematic analysis, interpretation and data credibility using triangulation source technique to sampling based on opinion. The result of research showed that, from 5 subyect, there one subyect, H who isdominant in all aspect such as I am, I can, and I have. The subjects of ‘AO’ and ‘B’ are more dominant at the source I am, subject ‘A’ is more dominant in the source I have. Whereas subject ‘N’ is more dominant in the source I have. The study concludes that there are family factor, community, emotional regulation, optimism, self-efficacy, and religiosity factors that influence the resilience of adolescents. In conclusion, there is only one subyect who has resilience, but the other subyect doesn’t has all the aspects of I am, I can, and I have, while in other subjects is only dominant in one source of resilience. To has resilience, a person must have all of the aspect, such as I am, I can, and I have.

Keywords: Resilience, bully-victims, adolescence

Sedangkan subyek N lebih dominan di sumber I have. Sedangkan untuk menjadi resiliensi harus memiliki semua aspek dalam sumber I am, I can, dan have.

Kata kunci: Resiliensi, korban perundungan, remaja
