The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bid ask spread, profitability, and free cash flow on earnings management. The population in this study are manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2016-2018. The sampling method used was purposive sampling with predetermined criteria. Earning management is determined by the accruals method. The results of this study stated that the bid ask spread did not have a significant effect on earnings management, while profitability and free cash flow had a significant effect on earnings management.

The purpose of the research is to provide empirical evidence about the effect of board of commissioner, board independence and audit quality on relationship between free cash flow and earnings management. This research used 290 data from manufacturing companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange, selected using purposive sampling method, during 2012 until 2014. Earnings management calculated using Modified Jones (1991) Model include ROA from Kothari et al. (2005). Data for the research were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results of the research showed that the effect of board of commissioner, board independence and audit quality on relationship between free cash flow and earnings management is negative and significant. Board of commissioners, board independence and audit quality can reduce earnings management problems arising from free cash flow. Board of commissioners, board independence and audit quality oversee the opportunistic behavior of managers that arises from free cash flow problem.

AbstractAsymmetric information refers to a situation where one party has more information than the other party. The agency problems arise from asymmetric information in the principal agent contracts. In addition, there are also several factors that could affect earnings management that is free cash flow and audit quality. The aim of this research is to provide empirical evidence about the impact of free cash flow and audit quality variables on discretionary accruals, as a measure of Earnings Management with the control variables company’s size. This research used 103 manufacturing companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange, selected using purposive sampling method, during the research period 2007-2011. Data were analyzed using multiple regression method. Based on the result of analysis concluced that the variable independent free cash flow have a negative and significant effect on earning management. It means that companies with high free cash flow will restrict the practice of earnings management. While the audit quality no significance effect on earning management.

<p><strong><em>ABSTRACT :  </em></strong><em>Stakeholders pay attention to the earnings report, thus encouraging company managers to plan strategies to produce reports expected by stakeholders. Earnings management is one way that can be done. Managers can intervene the earnings management by increasing or decreasing profit in order to achieve a certain level of profit which benefits himself or the company. This study aims to determine the influence of free cash flow, financial distress, and investment opportunity set on earnings management. </em><em>The research sample consisted of 11 infrastructure, utility, and transportation companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2014-2018 with the total sample of 55 data. This study used a purposive sampling method and was tested with SPSS 22.0 Software. The results show that the data have met the pooling test, classical assumptions and established criteria. The results of the F test show that the earnings management variable is affected simultaneously by free cash flow, financial distress, and investment opportunity set variables. The t test results show that the free cash flow and investment opportunity set have a significant positive effect on earnings management, whereas financial distress does not. In sum, there is enough evidence that free cash flow and investment opportunity set positively affect earnings management, but financial distress does not have enough evidence to influence earnings management.</em></p><p><strong><em>Keywords: </em></strong><em> Earnings Management, Free Cash Flow, Investment Opportunity Set, Financial Distress.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><strong>ABSTRAK:</strong> Laporan laba menjadi perhatian para <em>stakeholders</em> sehingga mendorong manajer perusahaan melakukan perencanaan strategi untuk menghasilkan laporan yang diharapkan <em>stakeholder</em>. Manajemen laba adalah salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan. Intervensi manajer untuk melakukan manajemen laba dengan cara menaikkan atau menurunkan laba guna mencapai tingkat laba tertentu untuk menguntungkan dirinya sendiri atau perusahaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh <em>free cash flow, financial distress, </em>dan <em>investment opportunity set </em>terhadap manajemen laba. Sampel penelitian ini adalah perusahaan infrastruktur, utilitas, dan transportasi yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia periode 2014-2018. Total sampel yang digunakan adalah 11 perusahaan dengan data observasi yang diperoleh sebanyak 55. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah <em>non-probability sampling</em> dengan menggunakan metode <em>purposive sampling</em> dan pengujian yang dilakukan dengan bantuan <em>software</em> SPSS 22.0. Hasil penelitian dari data yang digunakan,  untuk uji pooling dan asumsi klasik telah lulus uji dan sudah memenuhi kriteria yang ditetapkan. Hasil uji F menunjukkan bahwa variable manajemen laba dipengaruhi secara simultan oleh variable <em>free cash flow, financial distress, </em>dan <em>investment opportunity set. </em>Dari hasil uji t memperlihatkan hasil bahwa <em>free cash flow </em>dan<em> investment opportunity set </em>mempunyai nilai signifikan positif terhadap manajemen laba, tapi untuk <em>financial distress </em>tidak mempunyai nilai signifikan terhadap manajemen laba. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah<em> free cash flow </em>dan <em>investment opportunity set </em>berpengaruh positif terhadap manajemen laba, sedangkan <em>financial distress </em>tidak berpengaruh terhadap manajemen laba.</p><p><strong>Kata Kunci:</strong> Manajemen Laba,<em> Free Cash Flow,  Investment Opportunity Set, Financial Distress</em></p><p> </p>

This research has aim to examine the influence of investment opportunities set, board independence, and free cash flow toward firm value with earning management as the intervening variable in manufacturing companies listed on Indonesian Stock Exchange for period 2017 to 2018. This study used a sample of 43 companies with 6 years’ time period. The method of analysis is multiple regression model with further done with path analysis using SPSS 23. These results indicate that investment opportunities set and free cash flow have a significant direct effect on the value of the firm, while investment opportunity set and board independence have the indirect effect. Investment opportunities set, board independence, free cash flow and earning management simultaneously affect the firm value with adjusted R- squared 55.3%. Overall this study indicates that earning management has important role as the intervening variable betweeninvestment opportunities set, board independence & free cash flow relating to firm value.

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect ofearnings management, firm size, return on equity and dividend payoutratio on manufacturing companies listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2014-2016.The sample was determined by purposive sampling method. The research conducted by taking 117 manufacturing companies. The result of this research showed that earnings management and firm size have no significant effect on dividend payoutratio, while return on equity and leverage have significant effect on dividend payoutratio.

AbstractThis research aims to examine wether liquidity, profitability, leverage, and operating cash flow can be used as financial distress predictor. Manufacturing companies which were listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the period 2014-2015, were used as samples. This research used purposive sampling method and 96 companies can be used as samples according to the criteria. Data was analyzed using logistic regression. The result showed that only profitability can be used as financial distress predictor, while liquidity, leverage, and operating cash flow cannot.Keywords: Financial Distress, Liquidity, Leverage, Operating Cash Flow, and Profitability

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of economic value added and free cash flow in manufacturing sector consumer industry in Indonesian Stock Exchange on period 2015-2019. The sample of this study are 31 company with purposive sampling method. Data were collected by official website of Indonesian Stock Exchange. The data will be analysis by using Eviews9 application. The result found that economic value added have significant effect to stock price, free cash flow have significant effect to stock price and economic value added and free cash flow simultaneously have significant effect to stock price. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh nilai tambah ekonomis dan arus kas bebas pada perusahaan manufaktur sektor industri barang konsumsi di Bursa Efek Indonesia periode 2015-2019. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 31 perusahaan dengan metode purposive sampling. Data perusahaan diperoleh dari website resmi Bursa Efek Indonesia. Data dianalisis menggunakan aplikasi Eviews9. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa nilai tambah ekonomis mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap harga saham, arus kas bebas mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap harga saham, dan nilai tambah ekonomis dan arus kas bebas secara simultan mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap harga saham.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to examine the factors that affect earning management in firms that registered in Indonesian Stock Exchange during five years 2010-2014. Determination of the sample in this study carried out purposive sampling. This study involved 14 companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange to take 5 years of research starting from the year 2010-2014. The factors examined are leverage, profitability and free cash flow. This study adopts the research conducted by Stubben (2010) where there are two measurements model is the discretionary revenue model consists of revenue model and conditional revenue model. Tools of analysis used moderate regression analysis. Research results show that leverage had no effect on earning management revenue model but leverage had effect on earning management conditional revenue model. Profitability and free cash flow had no effect on earning management revenue model and conditional revenue model. Interaction between free cash flow and leverage and interaction between free cash flow and profitability had no effect on earning management revenue model and conditional revenue model. The contribution of this research is debt asset ratio and conditional revenue model could give the signal to shareholder that management decrease practice earning management. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji faktor faktor yang mempengaruhi praktik manajemen laba pada perusahaan perusahaan yang tercatat di Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) selama periode 2010-2014. Penentuan sampel dalam penelitian ini dilakukan secara purposive sampling. Penelitian ini melibatkan 14 perusahaan yang terdaftar pada Bursa Efek Indonesia dengan mengambil 5 tahun penelitian mulai tahun 2010-2014. Faktor faktor yang diuji adalah leverage, profitabilitas dan arus kas bebas. Penelitian ini mengadopsi pada penelitian yang dilakukan oleh Stubben (2010) dimana terdapat dua model pengukuran revenue discretionary model yang terdiri dari revenue model dan conditional revenue model. Alat analisis yang digunakan adalah moderate regresi analisis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan: leverage tidak berpengaruh terhadap manajemen laba revenue model tetapi leverage berpengaruh terhadap praktik manajemen laba conditional revenue model. Profitabilitas dan arus kas bebas tidak berpengaruh terhadap praktik manajemen laba baik revenue model maupun conditional revenue model. Interaksi antara arus kas bebas dengan leverage dan interaksi antara arus kas bebas dengan profitabilitas tidak berpengaruh terhadap praktik manajemen laba baik revenue mode maupun conditional revenue model. Kontribusi penelitian ini dapat menunjukkan bahwa hubungan debt to asset ratio dengan conditional revenue model memberikan signal kepada para pemilik saham dimana manajemen mengurangi praktik manajemen laba terhadap suatu perusahaan. The purpose of this study is to analyzed how the IFRS convergence influence earnings management with audit quality as a moderating variable. The study was conducted on manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the period 2008-2018 obtained using the purposive sampling method. The results of the study using panel data analysis showed that IFRS convergence negatively and significantly affected earnings management.This shows that the convergence of IFRS has an impact on the decline in earnings management practices. However, this study failed to prove audit quality as a moderating variable.
