This research aims to develop weblog as media in teaching writing of senior high school students.It is a research and development (R&D) study that follows ASSURE model proposed by Heinrich and developed by Smaldino, Heinich, Molenda, & Russell (2005:49). The procedure of developing media consisted of analyzing learner, stating objective, selecting media, utilizing media, requiring learner participation, evaluating and revising.The product was examined by the media expert. After conducting the first test, the second test was conducted by English teacher and students. The subjects of this research were the eleventh grade students of PGN 1 High school. The subject consisted of 19 students of class XI. The researcher used an interview and questionnaires as the data collecting technique. The questionnaires were distributed for needs analysis and expert validation. English teacher and students’ responded toward the developed weblog. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for the questionnaires and the qualitative analysis technique for the interview.The findings revealed that the developed weblog as online media in teaching writing is categorized “very good” by experts with the mean scores put on 3.82. The result score of tryout is 3.48 and categorized as very good. The English teacher’s response towards the weblog show the range of average mean score on 3.69 categorized “very good”. Therefore, the developed weblog is very appropriate to use in teaching and learning process of writing.

This research was design to know the effect of learning model multimedia-based toward the students’ English ablility at senior high school of Kolaka Regency. The question of the research was “Is there an effect of learning model multimedia-based toward the students’ English ablility at senior high school of Kolaka Regency? The objective of the research was to find out the data whether the learning model multimedia-based has an effect toward the students’ English ablility at senior high school of Kolaka Regency. The significant of the research was expected the model can be used as reference learning model to improve the students’ English ablility.<strong> </strong>The design of the research was pre-experimental design. The research was conducted at the first-class students of Senior High School 1 Wundulako in Kolaka District. The data were collected by using English test which given at the pre-test and the post-test.<strong> </strong>In analysed the students’ test result, which the mean score of pre-test was 33,8806 and the mean score of post-test was 69,4058, while the t-table 18,55&gt;2,042 t-test. Its mean that the learning model multimedia-based has an effect toward the students’ English ablility. Refering to the findings and discussions of the research, it can be concluded that the learning model multimedia-based has an effect toward the students’ English ablility at senior high school of Kolaka Regency. It was based on the mean score in pre-test and post-test.Based on the conclusion of the research, the researcher suggests to the teacher, especially English teacher in Kolaka Regency to use learning model multimedia-based in teaching and learning process to improve the students’ English ability.

Analytical exposition text is one of the texts studied by eleventh-grade students, and they are asked to produce the analytical exposition text by themselves. However, they faced some difficulties that impede their teaching and learning of making the analytical exposition text. This research aimed to design Materials of Writing Analytical Exposition Text (MOWAET) as a supplementary teaching material to support teaching and learning analytical exposition text. This research was developmental research and applied ADDIE as the procedure to design the materials. Still, there were only three implemented phases in this research: analyzing, designing, and developing. MOWAET was the completed design product for teaching-learning analytical exposition text. The researcher interviewed an English teacher of SMA Negeri 4 Pontianak to do the analyzing phase. MOWAET was created by using PowerPoint and Animaker as the supporting software. The researcher used an internal evaluation to ensure that the product is usable in the development phase. The internal evaluation phase showed that MOWAET met all the criteria, including the objectives, the content, and the media option. Shortening, it was found that the materials of writing analytical exposition text (MOWAET) are usable to support teaching and learning analytical exposition text.

This study aims to discuss how teaching and learning activities were carried out by using Genre based Approach in teaching writing descriptive text at junior high school. This study was conducted in the classroom of VII-1. Therefore, the appropriate design was qualitative research design. The subject of the study was the English teacher. To collect data, the researcher used observation and interview. The finding of the study described that the teaching and learning activities that were carried out by the teacher fulfilled the basic competencies. The teacher carried out the opening teaching activities by greeting, asking the students’ preparation during the lesson, checking the student’s attendance list, and informing the learning objective. The teacher carried out the main teaching activities by informing about how to write a descriptive text, giving, and asking opinions, eliciting the students’ understanding, prompting and directing to do exercises. The teacher carried out the closing teaching activities by directing the student to continue at home and eliciting the students’ reflection of what they could learn at that time.

This research aimed to describe the teacher’s strategies in teaching writing descriptive text and to describe the problems faced by the teacher. It was a descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of this research was one English teacher of SMA Swasta RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam. The data of this research were the teacher’s language and the activities in teaching writing descriptive. The results showed that the teacher applied seven strategies they were (1) modify comprehensible input, (2) make lesson visual, (3) link new information, (4) determine key concepts, (5) modify vocabulary instruction, (6) use cooperative learning strategies, and (7) modify testing. And the problems faced by the teacher were the lack of students’ vocabularies and the participation in group work.Keywords: Teaching Writing, Teacher’s Strategies, Descriptive Text.

The aim of this study was to develop listening media for Grade VII of Junior High School Students. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. The subject of the study was Grade VII of SMP Negeri 7 Medan. The data were gathered by conducting interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 1 class grade VII consists of 30 person to get the students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students needs English Listening Media which can motivate and encourage the students to speak actively in English. The product has been validated by experts. The result of the product was an E-learning media named Moodle Cloud and all the features which was categorized  as an  relevant media since the validation score of the media was 93.55%.

This study was a case study which aimed to analyze the types of questions used by an English teacher, the purposes of questions asked by the teacher, and the strategy used to cope with non-responded questions. The subject of this study was an English teacher who taught seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Singaraja which is located in Singaraja, Buleleng regency, Bali, Indonesia. The data were collected through observation, interview, and video recording. The result of the analysis showed that from 241 questions, the teacher more frequently asked convergent, closed, and display questions rather than divergent, open, and referential questions. Procedural questions were also found. The teacher’s questions served several purposes such as to check students’ knowledge and understanding, to attract students’ activeness, to develop students’ interest and curiosity, and to stimulate students in stating information. It was also found that the teacher used seven strategies to cope with non-responded questions. This study suggested the teacher to balance the number of convergent, closed, and display with divergent, open, and referential questions to be used during teaching and learning process. In addition, the teacher should know more about the strategies for non-responded questions and the proper way to use those strategies to make the teaching and learning process runs smoothly.

<p>This research is aimed at finding out: 1) To what extent graphic organizers can improve students’ writing coherence; 2) How graphic organizers can be implemented effectively in improving students’ writing coherence. The research method used in this study is classroom action research. The subject of the research was the students of class VIIIB of a state Junior High School, Kebumen which consist of 32 students. In this research, the collected data were analyzed using a qualitative and quantitative technique. The result of the study shows that the students’ mean score of writing coherence on pre-test is 56.35, then it improves in post-test 1 to ­­­­­­­­70.45 and 79.4 in post-test 2. Moreover, the result of the study also shows that graphic organizers can be implemented effectively if the teacher: (1) gives clear explanation and examples of graphic organizers; (2) guides and monitors the students during the process of writing; (3) provides exercise of grammar; and (4) keeps the students motivated in writing. Considering the result of the study, the researcher suggests that an English teacher had better implement graphic organizers in teaching writing in order to help the students improving their writing coherence. <strong><em></em></strong></p>

This research was a Research and Development (R&D) which aimed at developing Local Wisdom based Balinese Digital storytelling through Blended Learning method as an innovative media for teaching writing at Information System Educational Program of ITB STIKOM Bali. The data were collected by using documentation technique, interview, observation, and questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed quantitatively to find out the mean score, in which the mean score was categorized based on the criterion referenced evaluation table. This research found that, (1) In developing Local Wisdom Based Balinese Digital Storytelling Through Blended Learning Method required a chronologically steps, namely: observation, need analysis, designing prototype of the media, expert judgment, revising the product, field testing, analyzing the data and finalizing the final product, (2) furthermore, the result of the questionnaire filled by the students was 3.78, it represented that the implementation of local wisdom based digital storytelling through Blended Learning method could be categorized as good. The results of this study were highly expected can help both the teachers and the students in the process of teaching and learning writing narrative text.

Students’ achievement in writing descriptive text is very low, in this study Think Pair Share (TPS) was applied to solve the problem. Action research in conducted for the result and the technique to collect the data, qualitative and quantitative are applied in this research. The subject of this research is grade VIII in Junior High School (SMP Bilang Huluh) Rantau Parapat. In the first evaluation (66,4375) increased to the mean of second evaluation (78,125) and the mean of third evaluation (87,5625). Observation result showed that the students gave their good attitudes and responses during teaching and learning process by applying the application of TPS (Think Pair Share) method. Questionnaire and interview report showed that students agree that the application of TPS (Think Pair Share) method had helped them in writing descriptive text. It can be conclude that the students’ achievement is improved when thay are tought through TPS Method. Key Words: Achievement, Writing, Descriptive Text and Think Pair Share

This study aim to design English speaking materials needed for students of class XI SMA N 1 Kerajaan. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. The subject of this study were students of class XI consisting of 20 students. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaire and interview. After analyzing the data, the writer got the students’ needs. The data were gathered by administering interview to the English teacher and distributing the questionnaire to 20 respondents to get the students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire result of the needs analysis showed that the students needed materials for speaking which were attractive and interesting and based on their social life context. Thus, the learning materials were developed into 6 of speaking material. By two experts; English lecturer and English teacher. The average scores are 4,7 or 95% from English Lecturer and 4,5 or 90% from English Teacher. It means the developing materials categorized as relevant, thus, it can be concluded that contextual teaching and learning speaking materials had been appropriated for grade XI students of Senior High School.Key words: Research and Development (R & D), Speaking materials, Contextual Teaching and  Learning
