Foreign language teaching to medical students depends on solving various institutional problems. In this sense, its effectiveness is a variable which influences the level of education at the university. Effectiveness of academic education depends on two groups of conditions- one is the purely material aspect- the place and conditions in which education takes place, the financial resources and the second one includes the psychoemotional aspect of training- the so-called didactic costs which include the physical and emotional efforts invested in the process of training both on the side of the lecturer and student. One of the ways to improve effectiveness is by restricting didactic costs- the less the psychoemotional tension and anxiety- the better results would a student achieve. Giving the student the opportunity to “manage his/her own manner of learning” and placing the student in the centre of the educational process would inevitably lead to increasing student motivation.Another mechanism to achieve effectiveness and quality of education is through activating the inner motivation of students to learn a foreign language. The latter is influenced by factors such as concentration, attention, a feeling of complete participation in the process of training, lack of fear of failure, assuming responsibility for the achieved results etc. A new aspect of contemporary learning success is differentiation in education, introduction of the individual, personal style of learning of each student. An appropriate instrument or tool in achieving motivation is for the learning process to follow and conform to the different learning styles of students. The individual learning style implies the individual preferences in perceiving and memorizing information. The aim of the present paper is to identify these styles in students from the Medical University – Plovdiv and thus to identify their satisfaction with foreign language learning. The survey was conducted in 2017 among 140 students from 16 countries. A written questionnaire and a psychological test were used to gather the data. Determinants for satisfaction were identifies as: the material setting and technological equipment, personal characteristics of the teacher and the microclimate in the student group. An adapted LSI (Learning Style Inventory) specifically adapted for Bulgaria which includes four types of approaches to the learning process- specific experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation was used. The results are distributed according to gender, specialty, year of studies and Kolb’s learning styles- divergent, assimilative, convergent and accommodative. The leading learning style according to our survey proves to be the convergent on with women having higher values (32,14%) than men (24,28%), next comes the assimilative learning style with men having higher value (17,14%) as opposed to women (14,28%). The accommodative is next – 5% of women and 3.57% men prefer this learning style and the least proffered one is the divergent one – 3,57% of women and 2,88% of men prefer it.

So a contemporary teacher should not only have knowledge in the field of new informational technologies. The purpose of the article is to investigate existing innovative SMART tools which English teachers can use as a part of their professional activity, disclose the essence of these instruments and benefits of using them in the teaching process. Using SMART tools in the process of teaching a foreign language reveals the enormous capabilities of the computer as an effective means of learning. SMART tools allow you to train different types of speech activity and combine them in different combinations, understand the language phenomena, contribute to the formation of linguistic abilities, create communicative situations, automate linguistic and speech actions, as well as ensure the implementation of an individual approach and the intensification of the independent work of students.

This article discusses the problems of teaching a foreign language at a technical university at the present stage. The problem of deepening cognitive activity, strengthening the independence and creativity of students is one of the stimulating tasks in pedagogy. The modern orientation of education towards the formation of a person’s competence in activities and communication presupposes the creation of didactic and psychological conditions in which a student can show a personal position, individuality, express himself as a subject of training. And, namely, the student is involved in the process of educational activity with varying degrees of activity. The article also describes three levels of cognitive activity of students: reproducing, interpreting and creative. The first level, reproducing, is characterized by the desire of students to understand, remember, reproduce the acquired skills, mastering the ways of performing actions on the model. The interpretation level implies a desire to comprehend the meaning of what is being studied, to apply knowledge and mastered methods of activity in new educational conditions. The creative level, on the other hand, provides students with a readiness for a theoretical understanding of knowledge, an understanding of the connections between objects and phenomena, an independent search for solutions to problems. The article analyzes passive and active learning, depending on the level of cognitive activity of students in the educational process. With passive learning, the student acts as an object of educational activity (monologue lectures, reading literature, demonstrations) and does not perform any problematic, search tasks. With active learning, the student becomes the subject of educational activity, enters into a dialogue with the teacher, actively participates in the cognitive process, performs creative, search, problem tasks. Moreover, in this article, based on the objective laws of the process of cognitive activity of a person, information on problem education is given. And, namely, the basis of the theory of problem-based education is: 1. purposefulness (i.e. not one goal is to study the material, but several - educational, educational, developing); 2. The problematic structure of educational material; 3. A combination of creative and reproductive teaching methods; 4. duality of the learning process (the listener is not a passive object of pedagogical activity, but an active subject of the learning process); 5. The corresponding structure of knowledge; 6. systematic motivation for learning (the formation of students' cognitive needs and interest in knowledge). It is also noted that when implementing the principle of problem-based learning, a whole series of psychological and related problems arise, primarily with the creation of a problematic situation corresponding tasks to be solved. This article provides solutions to these problems.

The study of the impact of applying personal-oriented teaching methods in English language learning process on the formation of self-confidence, improving academic performance and increasing interest in a foreign language is described in the article. The purpose, hypothesis, tasks, methodological and theoretical basis of the research, methods and experimental base of the research are defined in the article; the results of the research of the summative, formative and control stages are analyzed. The method of Yakubovskaya P. was chosen as a diagnostic method at the summative and control stages of the study. P. Yakubovskaya's assessment test is aimed at the ability to distinguish between confident, insecure and aggressive behavior of an individual. The summative stage of the study showed that the majority of students do not see the line between confident and insecure behavior of the individual in situations that were taken as examples. It is mentioned that some guys couldn't tell the difference between confident and aggressive behavior. At the formative stage of the study, students in the control group studied using the classical method. For students of the experimental group, English lessons were developed and tested using specially designed tasks of a personality-oriented nature. During the control stage of the study, students who were part of the experimental group showed a significant increase in correct answers while doing the test. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the use of personality-oriented approach in the educational process positively affects the formation of self-confidence, improving academic performance and increasing interest in a foreign language in general, as well as contributing to the formation of a strong and self-confident personality.

The relevance of the study is due to many factors. Firstly, nowadays digital tools are beginning to take a significant place in the learning process in various disciplines, both in the system of secondary and higher education. Secondly, their use is not due to a simple desire of the teacher to diversify the lesson or make it more effective, but the very state of society makes their introduction into the educational process necessary and, sometimes, the only possible one. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the effectiveness of the use of modern digital tools in foreign language training of students. The author analyzed the current state of the problem under study in domestic and foreign pedagogy and methods of teaching foreign languages. The article is intended for teachers of foreign languages, as well as students of pedagogical universities, future teachers, for use during teaching practice and professional activity.
