Beside transportation sector, industrial sector is one of the biggest energy consumption sector.Therefore, any energy conservation effort in this sector will contribute to the energy demand reduction as targeted in the National Energy Policy (KEN) and National Energy Plan (RUEN). This study tries to estimate the potential of energy conservation in Industrial sector by implementing four energy conservation policies, mamely: 1) implementation of energy management system, 2) boiler efficiency improvement, 3) Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) implementation for  electric motor, and 4) MEPS implementation for chillers. Potential of energy conservation was calculated by using Long Range Energy Alternative Planning (LEAP) software. The results of this study indicate that the implemntation of those energy conservation policies has the potential to reduce energy demands by 35 million Barrel Oil Equivalent (BOE) or by 7.9%  in 2025 and 232 million BOE or 15.3% in 2050 as compared to energy demand in the Business as Usual (BAU) scenario. In sthe hort-term, (2025), the contribution of  energy saving  from the implementation  of : energy management  system, improving boiler efficiency, implementation of MEPS for electric motors, and implementation of MEPS for chillers are 1.1%, 6.3%, 0.5%, and 0% , respectivily. Energi merupakan komponen yang tidak dapat dipisahkan dengan proses pengolahan minyak. Pada pengolahan minyak dan gas bumi, biaya energi merupakan biaya yang paling besar dari komponen biaya operasi, sehingga penurunan konsumsi energi akan memberikan dampak yang besar dari segi ekonomi. Penggunaan energi dapat dikendalikan untuk menurunkan biaya operasi dan meningkatkan keuntungan dengan menggunakan teknik managemen energi. Salah satu metode evaluasi pada proses pengolahan minyak yaitu dengan cara mengetahui Energy Performance Indicator (EPI) dari suatu unit proses. Untuk mencari nilai EPI dilakukan dengan metode REMS (Refinery Energy Management System). Metoda REMS (Refinery Energy Management System) merupakan sistem monitoring dan pengelolaan sumber daya energi untuk mencapai efisiensi penggunaan energi optimum dalam proses pengolahan minyak dan gas bumi.

As one manufacturing industry with a large level of energy consumption makes energy management mandatory applied at PT. XYZ, the purpose of this research is to design energy management system implementation strategy in PT. XYZ based on ISO 50001. Started by self assessment and by collecting data on the use of primary energy sources in the company, followed by processing and analyzing using simple linear regression. The self assessment results show 38% of the total value’s completeness of existing program in the clause of ISO 50001. From the processing and analyzing’s energy usage showed energy baseline and energy performance indicators (EnPI) of the company. The result of research is identifies and proposes the potential of energy savings in air compressor distribution system, steam boiler distribution, and electrical distribution system with good housekeeping, control system, and modification, proposes the energy management system implementation based on Deming’s PDCA cycle, and continued by recommending roadmap towards the implementation of energy management systems.

Abstract The global pressing need to protect the environment, save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide has prompted the enterprises to implementing both individual energy saving measures and a more systematic approach to improve the overall enterprise’s energy performance. Energy management is becoming a priority as enterprises strive to reduce energy costs, conform to regulatory requirements, and improve their corporate image. As such, enterprises are encouraged to manage their energy related matters in a systematic manner and a more harmonized way, to ensure continual improvement on their energy efficiency. Despite the increasing interest in energy management standards, a gap persists between energy management literature and current implementation practices. The release of the ISO 50001 international standard was meant to help the organizations develop sound energy management systems and effective process-based energy management structures that could be recognized through third-party certification. Building on the energy management literature and energy management standards, the current paper presents the essential steps the enterprises should take to practically design a sustainable energy management system. Also, by using multiple case studies of enterprises that have implemented an ISO 50001 energy management system, it introduces a structured approach that companies can use to effectively develop their energy planning and improve energy performance. The key components of the enterprise’s energy planning are discussed, as well as practical examples of energy objectives and performance indicators from various industries are offered. The paper shows that by establishing an effective energy planning system, this will efficiently meet demands for achieving energy performance indicators and international certification.

The term energy management from the past few years is becoming increasingly important. Not only the trend toward clean energy sources triggered a process of rethinking in the minds of society but also pushed the politics to create incentives for companies in order to make them reduce their carbon footprint. The efficient use of energy can be described as an integral part of current political, social and economic decision making.From a business perspective energy efficient production is no longer just considered under the ecological aspect. Through high taxes, huge energy costs and steadily increasing energy prices, there is for companies in the relatively young field of energy management enormous potential to financially improve and consequently save costs sustainably. Furthermore starting from 2015 the energy peak equalization law is made stricter, requiring companies to pay even more in taxes if they fail to fulfill all the requirements set by the politics.Hence the role of energy management systems (EnMS), which deal with the continuous and systematic improvement of the energy performance of businesses, is becoming increasingly important.This paper will deal with an energy management system that was developed by the Institute for factory automation and production systems at Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. The paper audits the proposed concept and checks it for consistency with the international energy management norm ISO 50001. Additionally all the corrections and necessary optimizations are made in order to provide the companies with a complete energy management system.The aim of this paper is to verify and check the EnMS concept which was developed in the institute for factory automation and production systems (FAPS) for its conformity with the International ISO 50001 standard. Thus ensuring the long term certification according to DIN ISO 50001.

This study focuses on the public building in Indonesia that has implemented an energy management system compliant with ISO 50001 standard. The main objectives of this study are to review the implementation of the energy management system in the building, highlighting the main aspect of the ISO cycle deployment and key lessons learned for further dissemination. We performed the study of the implementation of energy management in the building sector based on the ISO 50001 framework that aims to enhance an organization to pursue the continuous improvement of energy management with a systematic approach. Implementing the plan, do, check and act cycle of the ISO’s framework, it is found that the management keeps a strong commitment to continuous improvement. As part of the energy management system cycle, an Investment Grade Audit (IGA) was performed in 2018. Implementing the IGA recommendation, both passive and active designs have been applied in the Slamet Bratanata building. Active design strategies that have been implemented include building automation system utilization, chiller and lighting replacement and Energy Monitoring System (EMonS) application. Implemented passive designs include windows film installation and an efficient room redesigned for optimizing natural light. To implement the ISO 50001 Energy Management System in the building, the energy management team has also held various activities. It includes developing Standard Operating Procedures, appointing a Person in Charge on each floor, conducting capacity building and performing an energy efficiency campaign. It is estimated that the energy management system has succeeded in reducing energy consumption by 613.188 kWh (in 2018–2020) and the Energy Efficiency Index by 129.06 kWh/m2/year in 2020. Furthermore, management energy implementation also reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 539.60 tons of CO2 equivalent. This study provides a reference for energy management in another building for improving its energy performance.

This study analyzes the energy management approach as one of the driving factors for sustainable development, not only in enterprises, but also countries. Sustainability of an enterprise is defined as its tendency to meet the need of customers and stakeholders through creative and innovative business strategies as well as activities that have a positive influence on society and environment. In this study, sustainability is measured through the application of an energy management system, but in the wood industry, which has an increasingly significant impact on the economic development in one country. The aim of this research is to determine the current situation regarding the application of energy management practices in production and service systems. The ISO 50001 standard for energy management systems considers the energy performance achieved by an enterprise. The connections between critical factors and the level of application requirements for the energy management system were statistically analyzed in this research. It was found that in enterprises that have a certified system of quality and environmental management, a higher level of energy management system implementation is evident. The research results provide data on the scientific level for the national policy improvement, as well as a developed model based on the Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) cycle for energy management system application.
