The developed program "Technical Service" is presented, exchanging information with the database of GLONASS/GPS systems. This program works on the network and allows you to notify technical personnel engaged in service, repair and release on the road or on a motor vehicle trip, reminding them of the time of receipt of maintenance operation (MOT) for each unit of the enterprise equipment. At the same time, there is information about the number of liquids, grades and filter codes to be replaced with a short history of equipment malfunctions and accidents of vehicles, as well as duplication of all information from the GLONASS system: fuel consumption, mileage, speed, brands and license plates of vehicles. The developed program has the following capabilities: stores a list of vehicles with license plates, constantly updating data on vehicle mileage, and stores for each unit of equipment the necessary information for maintenance operation of vehicles, a short history of major malfunctions, major repairs and accidents of vehicles. This information can be printed or saved to a computer. Timely maintenance operation is the basis and key to the failure-free operation of vehicles, which affects the successful conduct of business.

A number of studies revealed that the role of women both as influencer and independent decision-maker is becoming increasingly important in the buying decision involving the purchase of a passenger vehicle. In today's highly competitive South-African motor vehicle market it is becoming vital that motor manufacturers pay greater attention to market needs - specially with regard to important market segments. This study analyses certain aspects of the market segment consisting of women. The null-hypothesis this study tested was that there are no differences between male and female consumers pertaining to the relative importance of evaluation criteria, when purchasing a passenger vehicle. By means of analysis of variance it was established that there are significant differences (P0,01) between men and women with regard to 15 of the 65 evaluation criteria. It was also found that there are 50 insignificant differences between the two groups. The hypothesis, as formulated is thus rejected, with regard to 15 of the evaluation criteria, in favour of the alternate hypothesis.

This article explores the role of the ‘diaspora fleet’ in Harare’s urban commuter system. Imported vehicles in the form of haulage trucks and commuter buses were one of the popular and visible forms of diasporic investment over Zimbabwe’s difficult decade spanning from 2000 to about 2010. The article argues that this diaspora fleet occupies a significant place in the history of commuting in Harare. Diasporic investment introduced a cocktail of European vehicles that quickly became ramshackle and ended up discarded in scrap heaps around the city. These imports and the businesses based on them destroyed the self-regulatory framework existing in the commuting business. This disruption was facilitated by the retreat or undermining of the state and city council regulatory instruments, which in turn created a role for middlemen, who manoeuvred to perpetuate a new and chaotic system known as ‘mshika-shika [faster-faster]’, based on a culture of irresponsible competitive gambling. This chaotic system remains in place today to the chagrin of city council planners and traffic police. Its origins, we argue, lie in the cultures and practices introduced by the diasporan vehicle fleet.

A good deal of controversy currently surrounds the role of collars and extrication devices in the on-site immobilization of suspected injuries to the cervical spine. The plethora of manufactured items readily available for this purpose reinforces the general impression that no one device is universally acceptable. In his book,Spinal Cord Injuries–Comprehensive Management and Research, Sir Ludwig Guttman stressed the importance of keeping all cervical movements to a minimum. Flexion, hyperextension and rotatory movements are particularly dangerous. The most difficult circumstances are those in which an unconscious front-seat occupant requires extrication from a damaged motor vehicle. Here the strict first-aid drill of gentle lifting by a six man team maintaining rigid traction in the line of the spine becomes impracticable and the rescuers have to resort to the use of aids.
