Major aim of the paper is to explain how Keynesian multiplier model can be used to estimate the effect of expenditure changes on regional economy especially regional income and employment. Among many factors, marginal propensity to consume locally produced goods plays a crucial role in determining regional multiplier effects. A critical feature of the regional multiplier is an extent to which expenditure injections leak out of a region and special attention has therefore been paid to identifying the nature of this leakage. Regional multiplier analysis has undoubtedly proved to be of a substantial value not only for defining and operating regional policy but also in providing an explanation of how regional economies actually function. It nevertheless has its weaknesses, the primary one being that it does not provide detailed information of economic effects of the expenditure injections. As a response to this criticism, regional econometric models which provide far greater details have been developed.

The EU decarbonization strategy foresees deep cuts in CO2 in the transport sector. Investment in infrastructure, manufacturing of new technology vehicles and production of alternative fuels induce macroeconomic changes in activity and employment for both national and regional economies. The objective of the paper is to present a newly built macroeconomic-regional model (GEM-E3-R general equilibrium model for economy, energy and environment for regions) for assessing impacts of transport sector restructuring on regional economies of the entire EU, segmented following NUTS-3 (nomenclature of territorial units of statistics). The model combines general economic equilibrium theory with location choice and New Economic Geography and implements a dynamic, fully endogenous agglomeration-dispersion mechanism for people and industries coupled with a gravity model for bilateral interregional flows. A novelty of the model is a two-layers structure: (i) the country-wide layer formulated as a global multi-sector, multi-country and multi-period computable general equilibrium (CGE) model; and (ii) the regional economy layer, which simulates impacts on regional economies, while considering country-wide economic trends as boundary conditions. The paper presents a use of the model in the assessment of regional economic effects of electrification of car mobility in Europe and wide use of domestically produced advanced biofuels.

- The article describes the different stages which marked the elaboration of the EEC regional policy starting from the preliminary studies in the Sixties to the formal inclusion of this domain in the Single European Act (1986). The creation of the European Regional Development Fund (1975) and its reforms are crucial events in the definition of the EEC regional policy which highlight the slow and difficult passage from a system redistributing money among Member States to the launch of new form of supranational territorial solidarity. The ERDF, that was initially linked to the need to rearrange the financial benefits of membership/accession to the EEC for some members States (in particular, Italy and Great Britain), was later rearranged in order to allow more autonomous policy choices at the Community level (Community programmes). The Integrated Mediterranean Programmes, adopted in the Eighties, are the symbol of this new approach because they linked EEC regional measures to common problems arising from economic integration and increased the coordinating functions of the Commission.Parole chiave: Politica regionale della CEE, Commissione europea, Economie regionali, FESR, Programmi comunitari, PIM EEC Regional Policy; European Commission, Regional Economies, European Regional Development Fund, Community Programmes, Integrated Mediterranean Programmes

Foreign investment has played a major role in the development of tourism in the Cairns-Far North Queensland region of Australia, one of the nation's most internationalised regional economies. As the owner of a significant number of hotels and tourism operations, the Daikyo Corporation from Japan is the major foreign player, contributing substantially to employment and regional production. In this paper we use input-output analysis to estimate the contribution of Daikyo to the regional economy, which is shown to be positive and considerably greater in its export-to-import ratio effects, than is the case for the total industry sectors.
