Modeling and simulation of metal forming processes are increasingly in demand from the industry as the resulting models are found to be valuable tools considering the optimization of the existing and development of new processes. By the application of modeling and simulation techniques, it is possible to reduce the number of time-consuming experiments such as prototyping. Seamless tubes of various sizes and shapes are manufactured by various processes like sinking, fixed plug, floating plug, moving mandrel, cold working and hot working. The present work deals with the simulation of round tubes while passing through the sink pass, using ANSYS software. The simulation results are the displacement and von Mises stresses. The procedure can be used to improve the product quality and to study the effect of various parameters like die angle on the product quality.

The regularities of stress distribution in perforated beams with circular apertures under distributed load and pure bending. Such beams are made of different materials: carbon fiber is used in aircraft for these purposes, and steel is used in construction. Beams with different perforation parameters were considered and an empirical relation was obtained for equivalent von Mises stresses in castellated beams near the apertures’ outlines based on the analysis of FEM calculations. In this paper, beams made of C345 steel were considered. It is established that the maximum values of equivalent stresses near apertures under different loading types vary along the beam length in proportion to the values of the bending moment. The values of stress concentration coefficients for the pure bending are determined depending on the perforation parameters. The acceptability of the obtained empirical dependencies for equivalent stresses was verified using the FEM calculations based on the ANSYS software package. There is a good correlation between the results of FEM calculations and empirical dependence.

In view of general braces of Pall-typed frictional damper will produce additional axial forces on side column in frame, considering the buckling-restrained braces(BRB) to replace the general braces to make the braces action fully, it would not generate the growth of additional axial forces on side columns, to settle basis for BRBs’ application in Pall friction damping brace system. Because hysteresis behaviors of the Pall-typed friction damper are not affected by brace buckling forces, this paper puts forward that the braces use the ordinary steel plate replacing BRB core plate to do Pall-typed frictional damping brace experimental research, meanwhile considering the geometric nonlinearity the finite element simulation analyses are done for this brace system in ANSYS software. The experimental results and simulation results show that the Pall friction force and brace forces’ variation rule is almost the same, and the brace force is almost the same.

Numerical simulation is an effective method for predicting formability of metals, and the use of computer simulation enables a significant increase in the number of tool designs that can be tested before hard tools are manufactured. Based on dynamic explicit finite element software, finite element simulation of sheet metal forming was performed to investigate the applicability of applying hydrostatic pressure on blank in multi point discrete dies. Simulation results show that using the hydrostatic pressure on blank is apposite for the process of multi point discrete dies.

The properties of nanoparticles can be exploited to overcome challenges in drug delivery. By virtue of its design and size, the pharmacokinetics of nanoparticles are different than other small molecules. Modeling and simulation techniques have great potential to be used in nanoformulation development; however, their use in optimization of nanoformulation is very limited. This review highlights the differences in absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) characteristics of nanoparticles, use of modeling and simulation techniques in nanoformulation development and challenges in the implementation of modeling techniques.

A pressure sensor in the range of 0–120 MPa with a square diaphragm was designed and fabricated, which was isolated by the oil-filled package. The nonlinearity of the device without circuit compensation is better than 0.4%, and the accuracy is 0.43%. This sensor model was simulated by ANSYS software. Based on this model, we simulated the output voltage and nonlinearity when piezoresistors locations change. The simulation results showed that as the stress of the longitudinal resistor (RL) was increased compared to the transverse resistor (RT), the nonlinear error of the pressure sensor would first decrease to about 0 and then increase. The theoretical calculation and mathematical fitting were given to this phenomenon. Based on this discovery, a method for optimizing the nonlinearity of high-pressure sensors while ensuring the maximum sensitivity was proposed. In the simulation, the output of the optimized model had a significant improvement over the original model, and the nonlinear error significantly decreased from 0.106% to 0.0000713%.

Craps is a simple dice game that is popular in casinos around the world. While the rules for Craps, and its mathematical analysis, are reasonably straightforward, this paper instead focuses on the best ways to cheat at Craps, by using loaded (biased) dice. We use both analytical modeling and simulation modeling to study this intriguing dice game. Our modeling results show that biasing a die away from the value 1 or towards the value 5 lead to the best (and least detectable) cheating strategies, and that modest bias on two loaded dice can increase the winning probability above 50%. Our Monte Carlo simulation results provide validation for our analytical model, and also facilitate the quantitative evaluation of other scenarios, such as heterogeneous or correlated dice.
