How to make use of ICT as a medium of learning is suspected to have been able to create an effective learning because it provides better and faster learning opportunities for students to loading material taught, displaying tasks to discussion between students and guidance with teachers can be done entirely outside formal teaching hours. Many applications were developed and web-based. One of the applications that are developed and become popular, now is a WhatsApp. WhatsApp is one of the mobile phone aplication and web-based social network that integrates with various applications used to communicate with other users, ranging from education, business, entertainment many developed this social networking site. The applications being developed today are expected to function from social networking sites like chatting or broadcasting messages, but more to the collaboration applications (collaboration applications) and information sharing (information sharing) more will find that the purpose of e-learning really can be exploited.

The increasing ubiquity of web-based social networking services is a striking feature of modern human society. The degree to which individuals participate in these networks varies substantially for reasons that are unclear. Here, we show a biological basis for such variability by demonstrating that quantitative variation in the number of friends an individual declares on a web-based social networking service reliably predicted grey matter density in the right superior temporal sulcus, left middle temporal gyrus and entorhinal cortex. Such regions have been previously implicated in social perception and associative memory, respectively. We further show that variability in the size of such online friendship networks was significantly correlated with the size of more intimate real-world social groups. However, the brain regions we identified were specifically associated with online social network size, whereas the grey matter density of the amygdala was correlated both with online and real-world social network sizes. Taken together, our findings demonstrate that the size of an individual's online social network is closely linked to focal brain structure implicated in social cognition.

In todays world, identity of human beings has expanded beyond the real world to the cyber world. Virtual identity of millions of users is present at various web-based Social Networking Sites (SNSs) such as Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter. Interactions through SNSs have become a part of our daily practices, which eventually leaves a big trail of behavioral pattern in virtual domain. In this paper, the authors examined the feasibility of person identification using such social network activities as behavioral biometrics. Experimentation includes extraction of a number of idiosyncratic features from SNSs and analysis of their performance as novel social behavioral biometric features.


SuperClubsPLUS is a supported social networking site for children aged 6-12. While it is evident that children in the 9-12 age group have embraced SuperClubsPLUS with enthusiasm, it is important to consider the 6-8 group working in the space. This age group is likely to become even more confident with the Web 2.0 tools than their older siblings and they are potentially more vulnerable to cyber-safety issues. On the other hand, these children are learning about cyber-safety and cyber citizenship at an earlier age. The present study investigated what young children did in SuperClubsPLUS, how they interacted with other children and what skills they were learning. In particular it examined cyber-safety skills in the context of transferability.

Web-based learning has become an important way to enhance learning and teaching, offering many learning opportunities. A limitation of current Web-based learning is the restricted ability of students to personalize and annotate the learning materials. Providing personalized tools and analyzing some types of learning behavior, such as students’ annotation, has attracted attention as a means to enhance Web-based learning. There has been a sharp increase in the volume and quality of electronic publishing on the web in the past few years. Many research journals are going on-line. The advantages of pelectronic publishing are obvious and enormous: instantaneous access to archives, paperless media and fast document search to name a few. However, annotation of documents in electronic form has been surprisingly underdeveloped. Existing word processing software offers some tools for electronic document annotation. But as of today, these annotation features are so modest and limited, that they lose out to the convenient common practice of working with paper versions of documents [1]. The results of a surveys conducted came as no surprise: the absolute majority of researchers and students prefer to print out an electronic paper before reading and annotating it. Our claim is that electronic annotations can not only be as convenient as their paper counterparts, but they are superior in terms of the additional advanced capabilities they can offer. This claim makes the basis of our Annotation Technology (AT). AT is a set of principles that form a foundation for development of advanced and successful electronic annotation systems.

The number of instructional offerings in higher education that are online, blended, or web-enhanced, including courses and programs, continues to grow exponentially. Alongside the growth of e-learning, higher education has witnessed the explosion of cloud-based or Web 2.0 technologies, a term that refers to the vast array of socially oriented, free or nearly free, web-based tools, has represented a transition from institutionally-provided to freely available technology tools. This paper addresses the numerous teaching and learning opportunities and challenges that institutions face in adopting and implementing cloud-based technologies into their eLearning programs and provides a guide for forming implementation decisions.

Most people are more or less related to the web by participating in a kind of social networking site. Semantic Web technology plays a crucial role in these sites as they contain an enormous amount of data about ‎persons, pages, events, places, corporations, etc. This research is a Semantic Web application designed to create a new ‎semantic social community called Socialpedia. It links the already existing social public information to the newly ‎public ones. This information is linked with different information on the web to construct a new immense ‎data container. The resulting data container can be processed using a variety of Semantic Web techniques to produce ‎machine-understandable content. This content shows the promise of using integrated data to improve Web search and ‎Web-scale data analysis, unlike conventional search engines or social ones. This community involves obtaining data ‎from traditional users known as contributors or participants, linking data from existing social networks, extracting ‎structured data in triples using predefined ontologies, and finally querying and inferring such data to obtain ‎meaningful pieces of information. Socailpedia supports all popular functionalities of social networking websites ‎besides the enhanced features of the Semantic Web, providing advanced semantic search that acts as a semantic ‎search engine.

Trust in exchanges is an important concept in business and has become of topic of some interest in e-commerce. Substantial work has been done on how institutional mechanisms, technology, word-of-mouth, and numerous other variables affect trust in a website and potential customers’ willingness to conduct business there. This study continues that line of research by considering how the millennial generation perceives the trustworthiness of three types of online sites: a retailer, an auction site, and a social networking site. Little work has been done on whether social network sites have more or less trust than other types of websites and what aspects of trust are affected. Given the broad trend toward utilizing these social network sites for commercial purposes, it makes sense to assess how targeted users view and interact with them. This study presents preliminary data on all of these issues, suggesting that there do appear to be differences between social network sites and more traditional online vendors.

Social networking is a Web-based service that allows individuals to construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and view and navigate their list of connections and those made by others within the system. No doubt, social media has great potential in taking library operations to the next level. It is in the light of this that this chapter examines the role of social media and social networking in information service provision in libraries. To achieve this objective, the chapter looks at social media as a tool in libraries, advantages of social media in libraries, social media and social networks, and practical examples on the use of social media and social network tools together with how libraries can forge ahead due to the use and application of social media and social networks to their daily operations. Conclusion and recommendations based on these highlights are provided.
