In this paper we review the results of a measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry of oppositely charged lepton pairs produced via Z/γ* boson in pp collisions during the LHC Run 1 at √s = 8 TeV with integrated luminosity 19.1 fb-1 (2012). We also present our preliminary results obtained with Monte Carlo samples at √s = 13 TeV

AbstractMeasurements of $$K_S^0$$KS0 and $$\Lambda ^0$$Λ0 production in $$t\bar{t}$$tt¯ final states have been performed. They are based on a data sample with integrated luminosity of 4.6 $$\mathrm {fb}^{-1}$$fb-1 from proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, collected in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Neutral strange particles are separated into three classes, depending on whether they are contained in a jet, with or without a b-tag, or not associated with a selected jet. The aim is to look for differences in their main kinematic distributions. A comparison of data with several Monte Carlo simulations using different hadronisation and fragmentation schemes, colour reconnection models and different tunes for the underlying event has been made. The production of neutral strange particles in $$t\bar{t}$$tt¯ dileptonic events is found to be well described by current Monte Carlo models for $$K_S^0$$KS0 and $$\Lambda ^0$$Λ0 production within jets, but not for those produced outside jets.

The multiplicity distribution and the inelasticity coefficient are studied for proton–proton collisions at incident energies of 6, 19, 25, and 69 GeV. A theoretical model is proposed, based on a sequential decay system formed by the two interacting protons. The Monte Carlo technique is used to calculate the phase-space integral and for simulation of events for the different reactions.

Hard partons propagating through hot and dense matter lose energy, leading to the observed depletion of hard hadron spectra in nucleus nucleus collision as compared to scaled proton proton collisions. This lost energy has to be redistributed in the medium due to the conservation of energy, which is manifest in the pT dependence of the angular correlation pattern of hadrons associate with a (semi-) hard trigger. While at low pT a splitting of a broad peak is observed, at high pT the structure shows vacuum width, albeit with reduced yield. This sugests a transfer of energy from hard partons to a collectively recoiling medium. We present a systematic study of these phenomena using a realistic medium evolution and a Monte-Carlo simulation of the experimental trigger and show what information about the medium can be derived from multiparticle correlations.
