Abstract The K → μ+μ− decay is often considered to be uninformative of fundamental theory parameters since the decay is polluted by long-distance hadronic effects. We demonstrate that, using very mild assumptions and utilizing time-dependent interference effects, ℬ(KS → μ+μ−)ℓ=0 can be experimentally determined without the need to separate the ℓ = 0 and ℓ = 1 final states. This quantity is very clean theoretically and can be used to test the Standard Model. In particular, it can be used to extract the CKM matrix element combination $$ \mid {V}_{ts}{V}_{td}\sin \left(\beta +{\beta}_s\right)\mid \approx \mid {A}^2{\lambda}^5\overline{\eta}\mid $$ ∣ V ts V td sin β + β s ∣ ≈ ∣ A 2 λ 5 η ¯ ∣ with hadronic uncertainties below 1%.

An equation for parton multiplicity in cascade with the recombination 1 → 2 ⊕ 2 → 1 is derived from a Kolmogorov-Chapman equation and solved. An evolution parameter τ of the cascade depends on the c.m. energy [Formula: see text]; an explicit form of the dependence is obtained from the condition that the mean multiplicity of charged particles in pp, [Formula: see text] collisions be reproduced. A considerable decrease in the mean multiplicity in heavy-ion collisions per pair of the colliding nucleons at high energies is predicted and compared to the parton cascade with no recombination.

The total gluon helicity in a polarized proton is shown to be a matrix element of a gauge-invariant but nonlocal, frame-dependent gluon spin operator [Formula: see text] in the large momentum limit. The operator [Formula: see text] is fit for the calculation of the total gluon helicity in lattice QCD. This calculation also implies that parton physics can be studied through the large momentum limit of frame-dependent, equal-time correlation functions of quarks and gluons.

Several measurements on light hadron spectroscopy have been achieved with Beijing Spectrometry III (BESIII). BESII results such as a near threshold enhancement on the [Formula: see text] invariants mass spectrum namely X(1860) and a resonance X(1835) have been confirmed with 225 million J/ψ data accumulated from June 12, 2009 to July 28, 2009. Along with some other preliminary BESIII results including observations of X(1870), X(2120) and X(2370); the first direct measurement of a0(980)/f0(980) mixing; and an improved measurement on the matrix element of decay η′ → ππη have been reported at the 4th international workshop on charm physics.
