Scarcity in time as inconvenience: The role of dispositional reactance in product evaluation

Advertisements for products and services often contain a scarcity in time appeal to influence consumers. Previous findings indicate that a claim of time scarcity generally has a positive effect on consumers' product evaluation. Participants comprised 100 undergraduate university students who were given a printout of a fictitious Englishlanguage website of a fashion retailer, in which we manipulated absent versus present scarcity in time. Results show that the positive effect of scarcity in time on product evaluation was moderated by dispositional reactance. Further, this moderating effect arose from the interpretation of scarcity in time as causing inconvenience. The results indicate that marketers benefit from scarcity in time advertising when consumers' dispositional reactance is low.

Purpose This study aims to examine the relationship between renqing and purchase intentions and the mechanism of its impact in the Chinese business-to-business (B2B) context. Design/methodology/approach Renqing in China has played an important role in business relationships and has been receiving increased attention in both practice and theory. However, little is known about whether it can influence purchase intentions in a rational B2B condition. This research aims to examine the relationship between renqing and purchase intentions and the mechanism of its impact in the Chinese B2B context. Based on a survey of 1,010 industry buyers from 468 Chinese downstream buyer companies, the empirical findings indicate a positive relationship between renqing and purchase intentions and the mediating role of long-term orientation (LTO) for increasing purchase intentions. In addition, this study also finds that product involvement (PI) has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between renqing and purchase intentions, which means that renqing has a big positive effect on purchase intentions in low PI conditions. The results highlight several implications for B2B companies that sell products to Chinese enterprises. Findings The empirical findings indicate a positive relationship between renqing and purchase intentions and the mediating role of LTO for increasing purchase intentions. In addition, this study also finds that PI has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between renqing and purchase intentions, which means that renqing has a big positive effect on purchase intentions in low PI conditions. Originality/value First of all, by answering the research question, this study shows that renqing has a positive effect on purchase intentions in Chinese B2B context. Second, this study elucidates the influence mechanism of renqing on purchase intention and identifies the mediating effect of LTO and the moderating effect of PI.

The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between exercise and general self-efficacy, depression, and psychological well-being of college students. Five hundred and twenty-two university students (nmale= 273; Xage= 23.33±4.36 and nfemale= 279; Xage=25.91±7.11) have participated in this research. The General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Physical Activity Stages of Change Questionnaire (PASCQ), and “Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) have been applied to the sample group in this study. While differences in participants’ self-efficacy, depression, and psychological well-being levels with regard to the stage of changes in exercise are calculated with one way analysis of variance (ANOVA), the relationship between these ideas discussed in the research have been determined with Pearson Moments Product Correlation Analysis. According to the stages of exercise behavior, significant disparities have been found between participants’ level of self-efficacy, depression, and psychological well-being, and the relationship between those notions has been observed. According to the results, the participants’ general self-efficacy and psychological well-being levels were high and the depression levels were low when on advanced levels of exercise. In light of the findings obtained from this research, it has been concluded that continuity in exercise has a positive effect on psychological effects like general self-efficacy, depression and psychological well-being.

We examined how being cooperative and competitive influence student burnout (i. e., students' exhaustion, cynicism, and diminished professional efficacy) and the moderating role of neuroticism. First- and second-year university students (N = 257) completed the measures of cooperativeness, competitiveness, neuroticism, and student burnout. Results show that cooperativeness had a negative correlation with each of the dimensions of burnout. Competitiveness did not have a negative correlation. For an individual with high neuroticism, cooperativeness did not contribute to professional efficacy but competitiveness tended to counteract any diminishing professional efficacy.

This paper is to investigate the effect of google usage on uumsqs final yearstudents’ academic performance. The scope of this paper is focusing on studying the effects of google usage on university utaramalaysia (uum) students’ academic performance. This study has been carried out among final year students of school of quantitative science (sqs) by did survey through asking respondents for information using written questioning which is questionnaire. The survey from the respondents takes time almost a week. It is believe that google usage will create a positive impact on students. By doing this study, students can know whether google is affecting their academic performance. The sources where students refer for academic purpose can also been seen. Besides, the role of google that can help students to gain extra knowledge in the learning process can be identify. Students can find out more advantages that is brought by google which can leave a positive effect on their academic performance.

Marketers often employ scarcity messages to attract consumers. In this study, we showed that consumers make inferences about the truth or falsity of scarcity claims. When consumers interpret scarcity as a value signal, scarcity will positively influence product evaluation. In contrast, when scarcity is interpreted as a signal with manipulative intent, the positive effect of scarcity on product evaluation is reduced. Accordingly, we identified reversibility of decision as a moderating factor in the positive effect of scarcity on product evaluation. Results showed that scarcity had a positive effect on product evaluation only when reversibility of decision was high. Further, this effect was mediated by an inference process, whereby consumers perceived scarcity claims to be either a signal of product value or of manipulative intent. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Organizational commitment is one of the critical problems faced by the organizations, today. The outcomes related to commitment i.e. turnover and absenteeism can be resolved through enriched jobs. However, there is limited knowledge availability both from practical and academic aspects regarding the effect of job characteristics on organizational commitment, and keeping this perspective in mind this study examined the effect of job characteristics on organizational commitment in Nepali IT companies along with the moderating effect of growth need strength. Altogether 167 responses were collected from employees using survey questionnaire. Regression analysis and multiple moderated regression analysis were carried out to examine the hypothesized relationship. The results indicated that job characteristics had a significant positive effect on organizational commitment and among the five dimensions of job characteristic only skill variable had a non-significant effect on organizational commitment. However, the moderating effect of growth needs strength on job characteristics and organizational commitment relationship could not be established. Research implications along with the limitations of this study are discussed.

This investigation expects to inspect and analyze the effect of derivative transactions on earnings management, the role of corporate tax avoidance in  moderating effect of derivative transactions on earnings management, the effect of earnings management worth pertinence of earnings, and the effect of derivative transactions Worth Pertinence of earnings. This examination utilizes information from non-monetary organizations in Indonesia and Thailand for the period 2013-2017 with 91 test of organizations. This investigation, earnings management is calculated based on the Jaggi model and the Jaggi changed model. The value relevance of earnings is calculated based on Ohlson's model. Corporate tax avoidance is calculated based on the book tax difference. The results show that subordinate exchanges have a constructive outcome on earnings management. Corporate tax avoidance has not been proven to strengthen the effect of derivative transactions on earnings management. Earnings management adversely influences the worth pertinence of earnings. Derivative transactions negatively affect the value relevance of earnings. Derivative transactions, especially those with non-hedging criteria, show a high tendency towards earnings management activities. Intercountry testing, derivative transactions have a positive effect on earnings management in Indonesia while in Thailand it does not.

This research aims to put into perspective the impact of exposing a blogger's private life over confidence which concerns the blog and the moderating role of the implication towards the category of the product. The collection of data is conducted among 320 members of the blog "streetstyletunisia," a fashion and beauty blog. The structural equation method based on the AMOS approach has been used to analyze the data. The results show the positive effect of honesty, a dimension of exposing a blogger's privacy over confidence concerning the blog, but disproving the impact of the blogger's intentionality over trust. This research confirms the moderating effect of involvement with the category of fashion and beauty product on the relationship between the perceived exposure of the blogger's private life and trust in the blog. This research can be interesting to marketers, as they need to partner with honest bloggers who reveal their privacy in order to influence amateurs and inspire trust in them and therefore embrace new communication strategies.

With widespread internet and social media use among youngsters, cyberbullying has emerged as a novel form of bullying. According to the routine activity and lifestyle theories, cyberbullying and victimization overlap significantly. However, the nature and mechanism of the overlap is not yet adequately understood. This study contributes to extant literature by investigating the role of network structure in cyberbullying-victimization overlap. Participants included 520 residential students from a single department of a Chinese university. This study applied prevalent, bivariate, and social network approach to investigate the overlap. Linear regressions with interactive terms are applied to investigate the moderating effect of network structure. First, the results revealed that the overlap phenomenon is robust against different approaches. Second, the findings demonstrated that indegree significantly moderates the effect of victimization on the perpetration of cyberbullying. Third, for betweenness and closeness, neither direct effect nor moderating effect, is statistically significant. Overall, cyberbullying-victimization overlaps among surveyed Chinese university students and social network may moderate the relationship between cyberbullying and victimization.

Purpose: This research investigated the moderating effect of demographic factors on mobile phone technology use by undergraduate public university students in Nairobi, Kenya. The objective of the research was to establish the moderating effect of demographic characteristics on undergraduate university students’ use levels of mobile phone technology. Methodology: The research used the media technological determinism theory as a theoretical framework. The target population was 246,871 undergraduate university students in six public universities in Nairobi, Kenya. The research design used was quantitative. Self-administered questionnaires were used as data collection tools. This study utilized purposive sampling to arrive at a sample size of 573 undergraduate students. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and then processed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. Findings: Findings revealed that mobile phone technology use by undergraduate university students was not subject to demographic factors. The research concluded that there was no moderating effect of respondents’ demography on the relationship between undergraduate public university students and mobile phone technology use levels. Unique Contribution to Theory and Practice and Policy: Since this research focused on undergraduate university students in public universities in Nairobi, Kenya, the researcher recommends that another research could be carried among post graduate students and also among private universities to find out if demographic factors may be affecting mobile phone technology use.
