Vietnam has been one of the best performing economies in the world over the last decade (Nguyen et al., 2008; The World Bank, 2016). The process of Vietnam’s integration into the world economic market, along with the country’s advancements in industrialization and modernization, have increased demands to improve and augment the productivity of the work force. This being so, Vietnam is now at a crucial stage of its expansionary economic development, assimilating some 425,000 tertiary graduates into its workforce during the 2014-2015 academic year (TalkVietnam, 2015). The country is also faced with a momentous challenge to provide highly qualified personnel for the emerging modern sectors of the economy. A particularly serious problem is how the country’s Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) will equip graduates with the appropriate skills and knowledge needed to meet the demands of rapidly increasing economic development. Our central objective in this paper is twofold: firstly, to critically examine and assess the scholarly literature on the technological importance of soft skills in the business arena. Second to conduct a field study on the perspectives held by employers on the specific character of variant combinatory sets of key soft skills best suited for maximising commercial outcomes for employers and the companies they serve in economically vibrant business regions worldwide. The concluding section of the paper will be concerned to determine the extent to which the various skill set combinations can be sufficiently pedagogically developed so they become embedded as foundational in the creation of an international business school curriculum.

Our central objective in this paper is twofold: first, to examine the scholarly literature on the technological importance of soft skills in Business, and second, to review the major research studies on the views of employers and the industries they serve regarding the specific character and combination sets of key soft skills best suited for business professionals located in four distinct and economically vibrant major business regions of the world. The key findings have been distilled from the literature and analysed to identify patterns of congruence, with the aim of cataloguing reasonably discrete combinatory sets of soft skills ideally suited to the specific business priorities which characterise these four different regions. The concluding section of the paper will consider the extent to which these distinct skill sets can be pedagogically developed in such a way that they become deeply embedded as foundational in the creation of an international business school curriculum, featuring five discrete sets of soft skills, each of which is ideally constructed for one of the four different regions.

This article focuses on the demand for skills of highly qualified scientific and technical professionals (engineers and researchers) in robotics, on both a global and national level. Information is collected using the text-mining of open-access vacancies for understanding the global trends and in-depth interviews with experts for a more detailed study of national trends. The study explores the combination of hard and soft skills, as well as interdisciplinary skills. Soft skill requirements play an important role in the demanded skill set of the specialist, but the claims for hard skills (including digital) are not becoming less strict. Programming and the knowledge of specialized software packages are the most important skills, but must be combined with practical skills (assembly, welding, soldering). The broad range of application areas for robotic systems creates demand for new multidisciplinary skills (knowledge of artificial intelligence, new materials, and biology). Rapid technological development underlines the growing importance of soft skills, such as communication skills, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn. Lists of the most demanded skills in different countries principally coincide. Results can be applied for developing policies aimed at eliminating the skill gap in prospective technological areas.

This paper presents the research on human capital in the global ranking studies and determining the place of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv in them in terms of human capital indicators, in order to increase the efficiency of using human capital and achieve competitiveness in this field. International rankings are an important tool for positioning countries and cities in the international arena and allow an objective assessment of the level of competitiveness of Ukraine and, in particular, the city of Kyiv in comparison with other countries and cities of the world. The author analyzes human capital development using global ranking studies such as the Institute for Management Development (IMD) Smart City Index, IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking, and IMD World Talent Ranking. With the help of these studies, the author examines: the ranking position of Kyiv among other cities in the world by the Smart city index; the scores of Kyiv among European cities on the level of IT skills at schools; the accessibility level to go to schools providing high quality education of the vast majority of Kyiv pupils among other European cities; Ukraine's place in the world on the sub-factor "teaching and education" during 2015-2019; Ukraine's place in the world on the criteria of "graduates in the field of ICT, mechanical engineering, mathematics and natural sciences" during 2018-2019; as well as Ukraine's place in the world on the sub-factor "concentration of science" during 2015-2019. To assess the development, involvement, and retention of highly qualified specialists in Ukraine, Ukraine's ratings were monitored for the following factors: investment and development (the amount of allocated resources for the cultivation of its own human capital), attractiveness (the degree of involvement of local and foreign talents) and readiness (the quality of skills and competencies available to the country) during 2011-2019. The research makes leads to the following conclusions: the competitive advantages of human capital development in Ukraine include the amount of resources allocated for the cultivation of its own human capital; the level of education and training in Ukraine in general and the city of Kyiv in particular, as well as the productivity of R&D in publications; the competitive weaknesses include the lack of a motivational component, as well as the recruitment and retention of highly qualified personnel, and, as a result, a significant level of "brain drain" abroad. In order to use human capital effectively, Ukraine should attract highly qualified workers to the R&D field as soon as possible. It is extremely important and, unfortunately, almost underdeveloped in Ukraine to motivate their activities, borrowing the experience of developed countries. In this case, the country will get rid of such a significant level of outflow of qualified personnel abroad, will concentrate more quickly on the production of science-intensive high-tech products, and will become competitive in the field of human capital and high technologies.
