Two mixed –ligand complexes [Cu(bipy)2N3(ClO4)] and [Cu(5,5’-DiMebipy)2(N3)](ClO4) have been prepared and characterized. The compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV-Visible spectroscopy, room temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements, and conductivity measurement, while the solid-state structures have been established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. [Cu(bipy)2N3(ClO4)]crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with cell constants a = 16.9027(3) Å, b = 7.59087(9) Å, c = 17.2614(3) Å, β = 111.2808(19)° and Z = 4. [Cu(5,5’-DiMebipy)2(N3)](ClO4) also crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with the cell constants a = 16.0312(11) Å, b = 7.9889(5) Å, c = 20.7167(18) Å, β = 110.285(8)° and Z = 4. The UV-Vis spectra and X-ray determination indicate that [Cu(bipy)2N3(OClO3)] is distorted octahedral ligand field and non-electrolyte in nature while [Cu(5,5’-DiMebipy)2(N3)](ClO4) is a square pyramidal five coordinate complex and a 1:1 electrolyte. The magnetic moments of the two complexes in the range 1.78–1.83 B.M. reveal a single unpaired electron with a slight orbital contribution.

Two 1:1 mixed ligand complexes of copper(II) azide with substituted quinoline and pyridine, namely catena di-μ(1,1)-azido-(4-methylquinoline)copper(II) (1) and catena di-μ(1,3)-azido-[di-μ(1,1)-azido-bis(2-methylpyridine)dicopper(II)] (2) have been prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography.Crystal data: 1, C10H9N7Cu, space group P21/c, a = 577.8(2), b = 2202.3(5), c = 919.9(2) pm, β = 93.92(2)°, Ζ = 4, and R = 0.035 for 1293 observed MoKa data; 2, C6H7N7Cu, space group P21/a, a = 823.7(2), b = 1303.8(4), c = 895.3(3) pm, β = 112.23(2)°, Ζ = 4, and R = 0.022 for 2133 observed ΜοΚα diffractometer data. In the structure of 1, the Cu(II) has a strongly distorted trigonal bypyramidal coordination, where both azido groups function as μ(1,1) bridging ligands resulting in a columnar structure along the a axis. The polymeric complex 2 has a less distorted square pyramidal structure; one half of the azide groups act as μ(1,1) bridging ligands to form centrosymmetric dimers. These dimeric units are further connected by the remaining μ(1,3) bridging azido groups to form layers within the ab-plane. Infrared and electronic spectral data are also presented and discussed.

1A[Al(OiPr)3]4 was reacted at ambient temperature with 3-chloropentanedione (3-ClacacH) in 1 : 1 molar ratio in toluene, to obtain the mono-substituted product. However, the bis-substituted dinuclear tetrakis(3-chloropentanedionato)-di-m-isopropoxy-dialuminum(III) [Al(μ-OiPr)(3-Clacac)2]2 () was isolated in 46% yield upon aging of the reaction mixture at −10 °C. The supernatant upon aging yielded a crop of tris-3-chloroacetylacetonate Al(3-Clacac)3·H2O (1) in 13% yield. Complexes 1A (monoclinic, space group P21/c with Z = 2) and 1(cubic, space group P43n with Z = 8) were characterized by elemental analyses, NMR and IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray crystallography.

Cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), and two cobalt(III) complexes of a new dianionic ligand, bqb, [H2bqb = N,N'-bis(2-quinolinecarboxamide)-1,2-benzene] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The crystal and molecular structures of the [Ni(bqb)] (2) and [N(n-Bu)4][CoIII(bqb)(N3)2] (5) complexes were determined by X-ray crystallography. Complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with a distorted square-planar structure including two short Ni–N (1.848 Å) and two long Ni–N (1.958 Å) bonds. The structure consists of sheets formed in the plane parallel to the b axis and diagonal to vectors a and c by intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Complex 5 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2 with a distorted octahedral structure. The [N(n-Bu)4]+ ion is disordered at the C3A and C4A atoms of one Bu. The IR and 1H NMR spectra of the complexes are also discussed.Key words: N4-dianionic amido ligand (bqb), (bqb) complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Co(III), azide, cyanide, X-ray crystal structures.

Single crystals of 1-(cyanoethyl)-3-methyl-pyridin-1-ium hexachloridoantimonate(V) (1), 1- (cyanomethyl)-3-methyl-pyridin-1-ium hexachloridoniobate(V) (2), 1-(cyanomethyl)-3-methylpyridin- 1-ium hexachloridotantalate(V) (3), 1-(cyanopropyl)-3-methyl-pyridin-1-ium hexachloridoniobate( V) (4), and 1-(cyanopropyl)-3-methyl-pyridin-1-ium hexachloridotantalate(V) (5) have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1-3 crystallize in the triclinic space group P1̄ with Z = 2, and compounds 4 and 5 in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 8. FTRaman spectra have been recorded and interpreted, especially with respect to the anions [MCl6]-. In addition, NMR spectra, a study of the melting behavior and elemental analyses complete the characterization.

The synthesis of the following mixed ligand complexes is reported: [Ni(phdtc)2(dpm)2], [Ni(phdtc)2(dpe)2], [Ni(phdtc)2(dpp)3], [Ni(1-naphdtc)2(dpm)2], [Ni(1-naphdtc)2], and [Ni(1-naphdtc)2(dpp)2], where phdtc = PhNHCSS-, 1-naphdtc = 1-NaPhNHCSS-, dpm = Ph2PCH2PPh2, dpe = Ph2P(CH2)2PPh2, and dpp = Ph2P(CH2)3PPh2. The complexes are characterised by microanalysis, IR and UV-Vis spectra, magnetic measurements, conductivity, X-ray powder diffraction, and thermal analysis. All the mixed ligand complexes are diamagnetic, and thus a square-planar or square-pyramidal (low-spin) structure was proposed for the present complexes.

Abstract The molecular structure of the bridged [1]-titanocenophane 1,1'-dimethylsilylene titanocene dichloride, (CH3)2Si(C5H4)2TiCl2, has been investigated by an X-ray structure determination. Crystal data: monoclinic, space group C2/c, Z = 4, a = 1332.9(3), 6 = 988.7(3), c = 1068.9(3) pm, β = 113.43(2)°. The results are compared with the structural dimensions of similar compounds: 1,1'-methylene titanocene dichloride, CH2(C5H4)TiCl2, with the unbridged titanocene dichloride, (C5H5)2TiCl2 and the ethylene-bridged compound (CH2)2(C5H4)2TiCl2

In a systematic search for supramolecular complexes involving all combinations of the cyclic polyethers 12-crown-4 (12C4), 15-crown-5 (15C 5), 18-crown-6 (18C 6) and dibenzo- 18-crown-6 (DB -18C6), and the geminal di- or trisulfones H2C(SO 2Me)2, H2C (SO2Et)2 and HC (SO2Me)3-n (SO2Et)n (n = 0 -3 ) , only the following four complexes could be isolated and unequivocally characterized by elemental analysis and 1H NMR spectroscopy: [(12C4){H2C (SO2Et)2}2] (3), [(18C6){H2C (S O2Me)2}] (4), [(DB -18C 6){H2C (SO2Et)2}] (5) and [(D B -18C 6)2{HC (SO2Me )(SO2Et)2}3] (6). The structure of 3 (triclinic, space group P1̄) consists of crystallographically centrosymmetric formula units, in which the disulfone molecules are bonded on each side of the ring by two C -H ··· O(crown) interactions originating from the central methylene group (H···O 213 pm) and from the methylene group of one EtSO2 moiety ( H ··· O 237 pm). Formula units related by translation are connected into parallel strands by a third type of reciprocal C -H ···O bond (H ···O 232 pm) between the second H atom of the central methylene group and a sulfonyl oxygen atom of the adjacent unit. The structure of 4 (monoclinic, space group C2/c) showed severe disorder of the crown ether and could not be refined satisfactorily. Compounds 5 and 6 crystallized as long and extremely thin fibres, indicative of linear-polymeric supramolecular structures; single crystals for X-ray crystallography were not available.

AbstractFour new mixed-valent chain alkali metal (A) sulfido ferrates of the general structure family ${A}_{1+x}\left[{\text{Fe}}_{x}^{\text{II}}{\text{Fe}}_{1-x}^{\text{III}}{\text{S}}_{2}\right]$ were synthesized in the form of tiny green-metallic needles from nearly stoichiometric melts reacting elemental potassium with natural pyrite (A = K) or previously prepared Rb2S/Cs2S2 with elemental iron and sulfur (A = Rb/Cs). The crystal structures of the compounds were determined by means of single crystal X-ray diffraction: In the (3+1)D modulated structure of K7.15[FeS2]4 (space group Ccce(00σ3)0s0, a = 1363.87(5), b = 2487.23(13), c = 583.47(3) pm, q = 0,0,0.444, R1 = 0.055/0.148, x = 0.787), a position modulation of the two crystallographically different undulated ${}_{\infty }{}^{1}\left[{\text{FeS}}_{4/2}\right]$ tetrahedra chains and the surrounding K cations is associated with an occupation modulation of one of the three potassium sites. In the case of the new monoclinic rubidium ferrate Rb4[FeS2]3 (x = $\frac{1}{3}$; space group P21/c, a = 1640.49(12), b = 1191.94(9), c = 743.33(6) pm, β = 94.759(4)°, Z = 4, R1 = 0.1184) the undulation of the tetrahedra chain is commensurate, the repetition unit consists of six tetrahedra. In the second new Rb ferrate, Rb7[FeS2]5 (x = 0.4; monoclinic, space group C2/c, K7[FeS2]5-type; a = 2833.9(2), b = 1197.36(9), c = 744.63(6) pm, β = 103.233(4)°, Z = 4, R1 = 0.1474) and its isotypic mixed Rb/Cs-analog Rb3.6Cs3.4[FeS2]5 (a = 2843.57(5), b = 1226.47(2), c = 759.890(10) pm, β = 103.7170(9)°, R1 = 0.0376) the chain buckling leads to a further increased repetition unit of 10 tetrahedra. For all mixed-valent ferrates, the Fe–S bond lengths continuously increase with the amount (x) of Fe(II). The buckling of the chains is controlled through the local coordination of the S atoms by the variable number of A cations of different sizes.
