Introduction. The practice of library space consumption is very important to be elaborated by using cultural and media perspective, becaus it  elaborates on the problem of why digital native users interpret of space. This article is part of a dissertation research, which describes social practices and space representation by digital native users at UGM library.Data Collection Method. It is a qualitative research with participant observation, interviews, and supporting documentation, involving six informants selected purposively. Analysis Data. Ethnographic approach is carried out by paying attention to the meaning of the actions of the events that occur in digital native users. Results & Discussions. The results showed that UGM library space was used as productive and non-productive space. As productive space means that digital native users leveraged teh space for learning or other activities related to their study. Meanwhile, non-productive space refers to space to spend their leisure activities. The result showed that digital native users in leveraging the space did not correspond to the initial function of the space. There was inconsistency with the representations of space that was originally designed by the UGM library. Digital natives had their own way of leveraging the library space.Conclusion. There are other motivation how digital native users leveraging the library space. In representational space, digital native users have their own interests. Further research should discuss more specifically in revealing reasons of space use from another theories or perspectives.

The stage performance of Langbodo, a play, which Nigerian dramatist Wale Ogunyemi adapted from Soyinka’s The Forest of a Thousand Daemons, which, in turn, is a translation of D. O. Fagunwa’s prose, Ògbójú Ọdẹ Nínú Igbó Irúnmalẹ̀. 'The bold hunter in the daemon-infested forest', exposed the limitation of the text as a bearer of meaning in the theatrical adaptation context. The limitation is analysed in this work to justify the centrality of adaptation in bridging the text-design-audience semiotic gap. This study examines the technical challenges of theatre design in D. O. Fagunwa’s works resulting from their adaptation as drama. The Yoruba apothegmatic idiom, Ẹnu ‘dùn ń rò’fọ́, agada ọwọ́ ṣeé ṣán’ko (which means, literally, that ‘vegetable soup can be prepared orally if a mere hand suffices for a cutlass’), a traditional derision for the inadequacies of the text, and the Barthesian notion of intertextuality serve as a dual theoretical structure in this study. A combination of methodologies including participant observation and ethnographic approach suffice for the retrieval and analysis of performance materials, respectively. Therefore, the study contends that the process of stage adaptation in Wale Ogunyemi’s play, Langbodo, used the technical contributions of theatre design, as a catalyst for connecting Fagunwa’s ideas to the final audience.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to address the question of cultural production, consumption and intermediation in the context of digital music. Design/methodology/approach This research adopts an interpretivist, ethnoconsumerist epistemology along with a netnographic research design combined with hermeneutic analysis. Interpreting both the text view and field view of an ethnoconsumerist approach, the netnographic research design includes participant observation across multiple social media platforms as well as virtual interviews and analysis of media material. The context of application is a digital music subculture known as Vaporwave. Vaporwave participants deliberately distort fundamental aspects of modern and postmodern culture in a digital, musical, artistic and storied manner. Findings Hermeneutic analysis has identified a critical and nostalgic narrative of consumerism and hyper-reality, evident as symbolic parallels, intertextual relationships, existential themes and cultural codes. As a techno savvy community embracing lo-fi production, self-releasing promotion and anonymity from within a complexity of aliases and myriad collaborations, the vaporous existentialism of Vaporwave participants skirts copyright liability in the process. Accordingly, Vaporwave is documented as blurring reality and fantasy, material and symbolic, production and consumption. Essentially, Vaporwave participants are shown to be digital natives turned digital rebels and heretical consumers, better described as cultural curators. Research limitations/implications This research demonstrates a more complex notion of cultural production, consumption and intermediation, argued to be more accurately described as cultural curation. Practical implications As digital heretics, Vaporwave participants challenge traditional notions of modernity, such as copyright law, and postmodern notions such as working consumers and consuming producers. Social implications Vaporwave participants present a case of digital natives turned digital rebels and consumer heretics, who are actively curating culture. Originality/value This interpretive ethnoconusmerist study combining netnography and hermeneutic analysis of an online underground music subculture known as Vaporwave shows digital music artists as cultural curators.

They are very master of this and of course require librarians to be able to provide access based communication technology. To improve service quality in addition to facilities and communication technology, libraries must provide collections that can be accessed through the internet, so that they can be read anytime and anywhere, including E-Book, E-Paper and E-Journal. Primarily is the collection of E-Journal.</p><p> </p><p>Meningkatkan Kualitas Pelayanan Perpustakaan  Terhadap Generasi Digital  Native. Generasi <em>Digital Natives</em>, yaitu generasi muda yang lahir dan hidup pada era internet cenderung menggunakan dunia internet dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Mereka sangat menguasai akan hal ini dan tentunya menuntut pustakawan mampu menyediakan akses berbasis teknologi komunikasi tersebut. En el artículo se analiza la etnografía y sus técnicas de investigación tradicionales como recurso central para identificar espacios públicos y privados, así como prácticas sociales ligadas a la reproducción de procesos de etnicidad urbana, tanto en metrópolis como en ciudades medias en México. El acercamiento reciente con grupos indígenas ha llevado a replantear la puesta en práctica de ciertas técnicas de investigación consideradas propias del método etnográfico en la antropología. Me refiero a la observación participante, la entrevista dirigida y el registro en el diario de campo. La agencia mostrada en la actualidad por sujetos, familias y colectivos indígenas radicados en diversas ciudades mexicanas, problematiza los contenidos y formas asociados tradicionalmente a dichas técnicas, además de ponderar prácticas de reflexividad por parte de los investigadores. A partir de la revisión de diversos trabajos con indígenas urbanos desarrollados en la última década, se discuten dichas consideraciones a la luz de proponer nuevas prácticas en las formas y contenido etnográfico con sujetos, familias, colectivos y grupos indígenas radicados en diversos centros urbanos mexicanos.Challenges for ethnographic work with urban indians in mexican citiesAbstractThis article analyzes ethnography and its traditional research techniques as a central resource to identify public and private spaces as well as social practices linked to the reproduction of processes of urban ethnicity, both in metropolis and in medium-sized cities in Mexico. The recent approach with indigenous groups has led to rethink the implementation of certain research techniques considered appropriate to the ethnographic method in anthropology. It means the participant observation, the directed interview and the reports in the field notebook. The agency currently shown by individuals, families and indigenous groups based in various Mexican cities problematizes the contents and forms traditionally associated with these techniques, as well as weighing reflexivity practices by researchers. ABSTRACTThis study sought to identify factors which influenced how a group of people with dementia living in their own homes participated in community-based physical activity and explored the effect that exercise groups, dance and walking had on their wellbeing. A broadly ethnographic approach was adopted in which participant observation and interviews were employed. Nineteen people with dementia and seven formal and informal carers were included in the participant observation phase. Eleven people with dementia were interviewed. The analysis and interpretation of data was informed by embodiment and social constructionist theoretical perspectives. Findings suggest that a complex interplay between attitudes and beliefs, retained embodied abilities, and aspects of the physical and social environment influenced how individuals engaged in physical activity and the degree to which they experienced wellbeing as a result. Findings suggest that when certain factors co-exist, physical activity can provide a context within which people with dementia are able to use embodied skills in order to support fragile identities, connect with others and express themselves.

AbstractBackground: The term digital natives refer to those born since the 1980s and have been growing up surrounded by technology. On the other hand, digital immigrants are born before 1980s and learned how to use technology later in life. Objectives: Goal of the paper is to explore attitudes of digital native students on the course of Business Informatics at higher educational institutions (HEIs), and to compare them with attitudes of digital immigrants. Methods/Approach: The survey was conducted in 2014 using the sample of first-year Business Informatics students from the Faculty of Economics and Business in Zagreb, Croatia. Results were compared with a research conducted in 1998. Results: In comparison to an earlier research, digital natives perceive their level of competency in the subject of Business Informatics before teaching practices much higher compared to digital immigrants. However, there is still an increase in digital native students’ level of competency in the subject before and after teaching practices. Conclusions: The research confirms a shift from digital immigrants to digital natives who show high level of interest for Business Informatics course topics and find its utility very high. However, constant improvement of delivering knowledge is needed in order to keep these high levels.

This paper explores the implication of the use and appropriation of collaborative technologies in digital disaster response. Using a virtual ethnographic approach, we studied the work of Humanity Road through participant observation of seventeen response operations across thirteen countries for seventeen months. The results identify critical areas where collaborative technologies have been successfully deployed for organising disaster responses. Our analysis offers insights into the areas where these technologies have facilitated or hindered the capacity of cooperative work during response operations. We conclude by suggesting implications for design and practice.

Risk is frequently invoked in contemporary accounts of ill health, but its construction is often constrained by a rationalist perspective that focuses on physical causes and functional outcomes, and that presents risk as external to the self and predictable. This paper describes an empirical study of the ways in which risk was realised and managed in a day hospital for older people. An ethnographic approach, with participant observation and semi-structured interviews, and discourse analysis were used to explore these issues with the staff and fifteen users. Whilst the service providers were orientated to the management of physical risk, as through the regimes for administering medication and their attention to risk reduction in the physical environment, the service users were more concerned with the risk to their personal and social identities, and they more frequently described its manifestations in inter-personal exchanges, sometimes as infantalisation and stereotyping. The paper develops this understanding of the potential for falls among older people to elucidate a broader interpretation of risk, and reveals that it is commonly constructed as a challenge to a person's self-image and identity. Such constructions help to explain older people's responses to complex health problems and to the services and treatments that attempt to solve them.

AbstractIn South Korea, the distance between Buddhist monastics and lay devotees tends to reduce as monasteries and temples multiply in urban areas. Even the remote mountain monasteries have broadened their access to lay visitors. Nowadays monastic and lay Buddhists have more occasions to meet than before and the current intensification of their relationships brings important redefinitions of their respective identities. This paper explores how far this new spatial proximity signifies a rapprochement between monastic and lay Buddhists. Through an ethnographic approach and a participant observation methodology I focus on a one-week retreat for laity in a Buddhist monastery dedicated to meditation. This case study examines the ambiguous goal of this retreat programme that combined two aims: initiating lay practitioners to the monastic lifestyle and the practice of kanhwa son meditation; and establishing a group of lay supporters affiliated to the temple. This temporary monastic experience was directed towards an intense socialisation of the participants to the norms and values of an ascetic lifestyle, blurring some aspects of the border between lay and monastic practices of Buddhism. However, this paper suggests that this transitory rapprochement contributed to both challenge and strengthen the distinction between the renouncers (ch'ulga) and the householders (chaega).

Net Generation (Tapscott, 2009, 1998; Oblinger and Oblinger, 2005), Generation Y (Zhao and Liu, 2008; Halse and Mallinson, 2009), Millennials (Howe and Strauss, 2000), Homo Zappiens (Veen, 2003) and i-Generation (Rosen, 2010). The labels used to describe the generation of young people and their relation with technology are numerous. Over the past few years, one of the notions, which might have had more echoes among parents, teachers, and policy-makers is those of “digital natives” introduced in 2001 by Mark Prensky. The metaphor has had enduring influence on how the educational system perceives students and technology. Most scholars do not like it, for various reasons. Among other problems, the term implies that technological abilities are innate rather than taught and learned. The aim of this contribution is not to join the existing debate about the existence of digital native but to examine if there is any empirical evidence to support the use of that metaphor in the first place, questioning its usefulness to depict particular generations of young people.
