This qualitative case study explores early childhood pre-service educators' perceptions of using play-based teaching strategy across the Foundation Phase. A play-based approach promotes a special mode of thinking, sense of possibility, ownership, control, and competence in maths and PE learners. That is why scholars believe that hybrid pedagogical content knowledge that integrates play-based learning sustains learner attention throughout the lesson and promotes problem-solving skills. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to propose alternative pathways that promote the implementation of a hybrid pedagogical teaching strategy in the Foundation Phase. This study draws from a qualitative case study conducted at one of the universities in KwaZulu-Natal to explore the perception of pre-service teachers about using a play-based teaching strategy in pre-Grade R and Grade R classes. Five preservice teachers who teach both mathematics and PE were purposively and conveniently sampled to generate data using narratives and semi-structured interviews to describe their perceptions and experiences. Zoom group meetings and WhatsApp one-on-one semi-structured interviews were used during the data generation process. The findings reveal that pre-service mathematics and PE teachers perceive play-based pedagogies as necessary to provide a wide range of opportunities for learners to learn to count, visualising groups, and problem-solving skills. They underscore the importance of drawing from a hybrid approach that draws strength from play-based learning to complement formal learning.

Rare diseases face serious sustainability challenges regarding the distribution of resources geared at health and social needs. Our aim was to describe the barriers experienced by parents of children with Rett Syndrome for accessing care resources. A qualitative case study was conducted among 31 parents of children with Rett syndrome. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus groups, researchers’ field notes and parents’ personal documents. A thematic analysis was performed and the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research (SRQR) guidelines were followed. Three main themes emerged from the data: (a) essential health resources; (b) bureaucracy and social care; and (c) time management constraints. Parents have difficulties accessing appropriate health services for their children. Administrative obstacles exist for accessing public health services, forcing parents to bear the financial cost of specialized care. Time is an essential factor, which conditions the organization of activities for the entire family. Qualitative research offers insight into how parents of children with Rett syndrome experience access to resources and may help improve understanding of how Rett syndrome impacts the lives of both the children and their parents.

Drawing on a case study of newswriting, this article presents media linguistics as a subdiscipline of applied linguistics (AL), dealing with a distinctive field of language use. Language in the media is characterized by specific environments, functions, and structures. Medialinguistic research, however, tends to overcome disciplinary boundaries. In multidisciplinary collaboration, it accesses a wide range of knowledge generation and transformation methods. In interdisciplinary collaboration, it contributes precise analyses of situated linguistic activity to the development of empirically-grounded communication studies. In transdisciplinary collaboration, it tests these theories against reality and solves practical problems. The article first outlines such a practical problem (Section 1). After explaining key concepts of media lingustics (2), it focuses on the linguistics of newswriting (3) and four related research methods (4). Finally, it discusses how the value media linguistics can add to both theory and practice of language use and the media (5).

The researchers intends to find out how Al-Quran Education in the Yogyakarta AMM Tartil Team includes supporting and inhibiting factors as well as how the team overcomes the obstacles to Al-Quran Education in the AMM Tartil Team Yogyakarta. The learning patterns of adults and advanced readers of the Quran in this education are different from those of students of Quran who are younger than them at the beginning level or those studying in Islamic boarding schools. This qualitative case study research uses several instruments, observation, mandala interviews, and documentation. Observations were made by directly following the Syahadah One education process for the students of the AMM Yogyakarta tartil team. In-depth interviews were addressed to informants, namely the management of the Foundation, Ustaz, and students participating in the education who were the object of the research. For documentation, it is emphasized on the data of the Tartilil Qur'an curriculum text. All collected data were then analyzed in a cumulative manner with inductive-deductive thinking patterns. Advanced education to read the Koran does have complex problems in terms of time and age of the participants, although it must be commended for their intention and sincerity to be fluent in reading it.

This chapter argues that event management and co-creation of green values require a different approach to and evaluative criteria for success than traditional ones. To substantiate this claim we turn to motorsports, which in relation to green values traditionally has been an adversary. With the advent of Formula E, a world championship for all-electric racing cars looking like those in Formula 1, this relation has been changed. Since its inauguration in 2014, the championship has continuously operationalized its vision of combining door-to-door racing with eco-friendly technology. One of the solutions has been to rethink event organization when hosting races, racing only in cities to reduce the ecological footprint from participants, spectators, sponsors and the media. The effects of this strategy were confirmed in 2019 when Formula E became the only motorsport championship in the world to be granted ISO20121 certification. Part of the explanation was that the urban localization of races makes it possible to integrate event offerings (e.g. partnership with universities, investor celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, and entrepreneurs like Elon Musk) with the championship’s aim of contributing to smart city development and a green shift. Based on a qualitative case study of the 2018 Zürich E Prix, the Swiss Formula E event, this chapter therefore introduces lessons for event managers on how to combine the characteristics of track-based racing, commercial requirements, and urban development.
