An approach for identification of faults in blades of a gas turbine, based on physical modelling, is presented. A measured quantity is used as an input, and the deformed blading configuration is produced as an output. This is achieved without using any kind of “signature,” as is customary in diagnostic procedures for this kind of faults. A fluid dynamic model is used in a manner similar to what is known as “inverse design methods”: the solid boundaries that produce a certain flow field are calculated by prescribing this flow field. In the present case, a signal, corresponding to the pressure variation on the blade-to-blade plane, is measured. The blade cascade geometry that has produced this signal is then produced by the method. In the paper, the method is described, and applications to test cases are presented. The test cases include theoretically produced faults as well as experimental cases where actual measurement data are shown to produce the geometrical deformations that existed in the test engine.

Abstract This work is about the validation of a Common Rail (CR) injector model. The model describes injector internal behavior in a detailed way, validation is done using dosage measurements and needle lift traces. The model contains fluid dynamic, mechanic and electro-magnetic parts describing all important internal processes. To compare the modelling results against measurement data, three test cases were chosen on a medium duty test engine to represent a wide range of operation points. Dosage measurements were done by averaging the injected mass of 1500 injections, each measurement repeated three times. Needle displacement was measured using an injector equipped with a needle lift sensor in the same operating points. The results of the simulated injector and the measured values showed good conformity both in needle displacement and injected fuel mass, so the model can be a basis for further injector and combustion analyses.

AbstractResearchers claim that data in electronic patient records can be used for a variety of purposes including individual patient care, management, and resource planning for scientific research. Our objective in the project Integrated Primary Care Information (IPCI) was to assess whether the electronic patient records of Dutch general practitioners contain sufficient data to perform studies in the area of postmarketing surveillance studies. We determined the data requirements for postmarketing surveil-lance studies, implemented additional software in the electronic patient records of the general practitioner, developed an organization to monitor the use of data, and performed validation studies to test the quality of the data. Analysis of the data requirements showed that additional software had to be installed to collect data that is not recorded in routine practice. To avoid having to obtain informed consent from each enrolled patient, we developed IPCI as a semianonymous system: both patients and participating general practitioners are anonymous for the researchers. Under specific circumstances, the researcher can contact indirectly (through a trusted third party) the physician that made the data available. Only the treating general practitioner is able to decode the identity of his patients. A Board of Supervisors predominantly consisting of participating general practitioners monitors the use of data. Validation studies show the data can be used for postmarketing surveillance. With additional software to collect data not normally recorded in routine practice, data from electronic patient record of general practitioners can be used for postmarketing surveillance.

We have studied and analyzed status and metrological supervision of blood glucose monitors, individual devices for a person’s blood glucose level measurement. It has been indicated that nowadays blood glucose monitors like other individual devices for medical measurement are not allowed to be involved in telemedicine public service. This accounts for absence of metrological supervision with these measurement devices in telemedicine. In addition, the key problem is absence of safe methods and means of remote verificaition, calibration and transmission of measurement data to health care centers. The article offers a remote test method for blood glucose monitors using a number of resistors with values correlating with measured blood glucose level. The available method has been successfully trialed in real practice.

The paper presents an intelligent building (IB) development strategy emphasizing the locally available non-polluting renewable energy resources utilization. Considering the immense complexity of the topic, the implementation strategy of the main energy-flow processes is unfolded, using the net zero-energy building concept (NZEB). Noticeably, in the first research steps the mathematical background of the considered NZEB strategy has been developed and presented. Then careful LabView software-based simulations prove that the adopted strategy is feasible for implementation. The result of the above mentioned research efforts is a set of powerful and versatile software toolkits well suitable to model and simulate complex heating, ventilation and air-conditioning processes and to perform energy balance performance evaluations. Besides the elaborated mathematical models, concrete software implementation examples and measurement data also is provided in the paper. Finally, the proposed original models offer a feasible solution for future developments and research in NZEB applications modelling and simulation purposes.
