The cavy’s dentition can be shortly described as diphyodont, heterodont, and hypselodont. Histologically, each tooth consists of enamel formed of 4 layers of cells, which together form an apical bud, dentin formed by odontoblasts, and dental cementum. The facies lingualis of incisors is covered with classical acellular cementum, whereas a few circular islands of cementum pearls occur on facies labialis. There are 3 types of cementum in cheek teeth: acellular cementum, cementum pearls, and cartilage-like cementum. Constant tooth growth is ensured by an open pulp cavity within the apex. Periodontal ligaments that are part of the desmodontium are responsible for anchoring teeth in the alveolus.

Regular scale patterning, restricted to the caudalmost tail and organized into two opposing rows on each side of the tail, is observed in few chondrichthyans. These evenly spaced scales, in dorsal and ventral rows, develop in an iterative sequence from the caudal tip, either side of the notochord. They are subsequently lost as a scattered pattern of placoid scales develops on the body and fins. An identical organized pattern is observed in tail scales of Scyliorhinus canicula (catshark), where the expression of sonic hedgehog signal is restricted to the epithelium of developing scales and remains localized to the scale pocket. Regulation of iterative scale position by sonic hedgehog is deeply conserved in vertebrate phylogeny. These scales also reveal an archaic histological structure of a dentine type found in the oldest known shark scales from the Ordovician and Silurian. This combination of regulated pattern and ancient dentine occurs only in the tail, representing the primary scalation. Scattered body scales in elasmobranchs such as S. canicula originate secondarily from differently regulated development, one with typical orthodentine around a central pulp cavity. These observations emphasize the modular nature of chondrichthyan scale development and illustrate previously undetected variation as an atavism in extant chondrichthyan dentine.

Despite much work on tooth development and attachment in fishes there has been little published on this subject in advanced actinopterygians. This paper describes tooth structure, arrangement, attachment, growth, and replacement in the butterflyfish, Chaetodon miliaris. Each tooth is composed of a cap, shaft, and pulp cavity, and is articulated to attachment bone pedestals by an annular ligament. Tooth growth occurs initially by cap formation followed by elongation of the tooth shaft. These growing replacement teeth remain unattached to the bone, forming in troughs in the premaxilla and dentaries. Jaw tooth replacement appears to occur either laterally or lingually to functional teeth; addition of teeth lateral to functional rows may provide increase in tooth numbers during growth. The dentition and jaw morphology of this species appears to represent a compromise between planktivory and benthic feeding and may indicate a recent entry into the planktivorous guild.

Caffeine affects activity of enzyme of polimerase DNA, induce the mitosis of cells mammal of before replication DNA ended the perfection, and also pursue the activity of enzyme fosfodiesterase is hence anticipated by a potential caffeine generate the developmental defect, for example can pursue the process of ossification endochondralis in growth plate. This present research studied the effect of caffeine gift by oral on pregnant dam during organogenesis to structure of histologi growth plate tibia foetus. Twenty four pregnant mice (6 per group) were treated by gavage with 0 (control), 40, 80, 120 mg/kg b.w caffeine from gestation day 6 to 15. On day 18 of pregnancy, fetuses was removed from dams by caecarean section.. Observation of histological structure of the tibial growth plate preparation by paraffin method (Hematoxylin-Eosin staining). The result showed that caffeine cause slightened proliferative zone, maturation zone, and cartilage calcification zone on the mouse tibial growth plate.

We have investigated proteinases that degrade cartilage collagen. We show that pro-inflammatory cytokines act synergistically with oncastatin M to promote cartilage collagen resorption by the up-regulation and activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). The precise mechanisms are not known, but involve the up-regulation of c-fos, which binds to MMP promoters at a proximal activator protein-1 (AP-1) site. This markedly up-regulates transcription and leads to higher levels of active MMP proteins.
