AbstractBackground: There is an on-going discussion within management accounting research regarding how to work with performance measures. In the process of developing new forms of performance measurement the task of choosing business metrics is central. This process is closely connected to the implementation of IT solutions. Objectives: In order to understand how new performance measurement solutions are implemented and used, it becomes crucial to understand how measures are selected and how new accounting information systems (AIS) are developed and implemented. Methods/approach: The paper builds on the case of an on-going AIS project at a large, public university in Sweden. The empirical material was collected using a semi-action research approach over a two-year period. The majority of the material comes from written documentation and minutes. Results: Even though the implementation of a new AIS triggers a change in the management accounting practice, this study shows that this is done in more than one perspective. Conclusions: As the project develops, new priorities and objectives evolve, which in the end shape what management accounting change becomes.

This article seeks to review the Australian healthcare system and compare it to similar systems in other countries to highlight the main issues and problems. A literature search for articles relating to the Australian and other developed countries’ healthcare systems was conducted by using Google and the library of Victoria University, Melbourne. Data from the websites of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the Australian Productivity Commission, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the World Bank have also been used. Although care within the Australian healthcare system is among the best in the world, there is a need to change the paradigm currently being used to measure the outcomes and allocate resources. The Australian healthcare system is potentially dealing with two main problems: (a) resource allocation, and (b) performance and patient outcomes improvements. An interdisciplinary research approach in the areas of performance measurement, quality and patient outcomes improvement could be adopted to discover new insights, by using the policy implementation error/efficiency and bureaucratic capacity. Hospital managers, executives and healthcare management practitioners could use an interdisciplinary approach to design new performance measurement models, in which financial performance, quality, healthcare and patient outcomes are blended in, for resource allocation and performance improvement. This article recommends that public policy implementation error and the bureaucratic capacity models be applied to healthcare to optimise the outcomes for the healthcare system in Australia. In addition, it highlights the need for evaluation of the current reimbursement method, freedom of choice to patients and a regular scrutiny of the appropriateness of care.

Palembang Tridinanti University has an academic information system created with the aim to facilitate lecturers, students and employees in the lecturing process of Tridinanti University in Palembang. then it needs to be reviewed to analyze the performance of academic information systems at Tridinanti University, Palembang. Therefore it is necessary to hold performance measurements to find out whether the academic information system is in accordance with what is expected. The measurement methods used are observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Then performance measurements are carried out to determine the performance of the running system using the method of performance measurement according to Training Resources Data Exchange (TRADE). The results of this study are used as recommendations for improvement so that the performance of the academic information system at Palembang's Tridinanti University can run according to the target

Based on the information and communication technology revolution are characterized by Internet usage in various fields, the business environment also does changing by applying the concept of Electronic Commerce (e-commerce) on its process. Like business activities in general, e-commerce also requires the involvement of various parties, which are referred to Supply Chain Management (SCM). The challenge is while the Supply Chain (SC) performance measurement, that generally conducted in the company with non e-commerce, applied on ecommerce business process. Otherwise, only a few literature studies discuss partially dimension of performance measurement in e-commerce. Therefore, it is important to conduct a literature study about key performance indicators (KPIs) for measuring SC performance in e-commerce dimensions, and it would be explained in this paper. The contribution of this paper proposed the KPIs' that could be used for measuring SC performance in an e-commerce business process in order to be a new approach on the development of SC performance measurement models.

In Private Finance Initiative (PFI), payment for services is based on predetermined standards and performance. Thus, Key Performance Indicators (KP ls) have been used to measure this performance. However, in Malaysia, the absence of an effective KP Is is identified as one of the core criticisms for measuring the PFI projects performance. Therefore, two objectives are established which are; to investigate the implementation of various PFI performance measurement models across the globe and how these models can be adopted within PFI in the Malaysia s context. Finally, an 'Amalgamated-Model' of Performance Measurement approach for PFI Project in Malaysia is proposed for measuring the project performance. The outcomes of this research can serve as a theoretical base for the improving performance measurement model in monitoring and measuring PPP projects performance in Malaysia.

Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world which of course, has many ports as a place reliance ship. Ports in Indonesia is always crowded by various ship activities. Such vessels require fossil fuels as the material preparation to continue the journey. This has become a business opportunity for PT. Pelayaran Hub Maritim Indonesia as a company engaged in fuel distribution. The operational activities of PT. Pelayaran Hub Maritim Indonesia has made performance measurement yet of the financial aspects only. Therefore, this study aims to design a performance measurement system for companies based on four perspectives of the balanced scorecard is a financial perspective, a marketing perspective, internal business process perspective and learning and growth perspective. This study uses a qualitative method research approach to the type of research in the form of action research case study, the data used is primary data. Data from this study obtained by interviewing the informant is determined based on the balanced scorecard perspectives. Results of this research is a performance measurement system and the weighting of each of the key performance indicators with paired comparison method to get the level of importance of each strategic objective.

In the paper, some of the most important performance measurement models are considered, and it is noticed that the majority of models takes into account the strat egy or goals while determining performance, most of them don’t specify performance indicators, but give an indication for their determination and none of them link directly organizational goals and performance indicators. In other words, none of them speci fy their interdependence, which would allow model flexibility. Furthermore, the novel approach to business process performance measurement is proposed, which starts from business system goals, decompose them on the lower level objectives and link them to the key processes of business system. Suggested approach allows interconnection between organization’s top level goals and key process performance indicators, by using lower level objectives, which enable model flexibility.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to propose and validate a framework for improving efficiency in road transport based on key performance indicators (KPIs) and personnel participation. The use of the “Overall Equipment Effectiveness” (OEE) indicator is widespread in factories. The framework adapts OEE to transport management.Design/methodology/approachResearch was divided into two phases. The first phase included development of a participative framework, which was based on the authors’ experience and a literature review related to transport KPIs. The second phase involved the validation of the framework, adopting an “Action Research” approach by leading its implementation in a Spanish retailer.FindingsImplementation of the framework has promoted more efficient transport in the company. The framework could be extrapolated to other companies, particularly, transport and parcel companies. By applying the “Action Research” approach it has been shown that researchers and practitioners can create knowledge by resolving problems that are of interest to both parties.Research limitations/implicationsThe framework has been applied in one company and could achieve broader validation. Additionally, integrating only indicators of transport efficiency into the OEE proposal has meant that other perspectives, such as costs or the environment, have not been dealt with directly.Originality/valueThe framework is a new line of research applied to transport management. The academic and business contributions fall into three areas: transport management, organizational change and the methodology. There are few examples that illustrate “Action Research” adoption within the scope of supply chain management.

The main aim of this paper was two-fold: first, to design a participative methodology that facilitates lean management implementation in healthcare by adopting the action research approach; second, to illustrate the usefulness of this methodology by applying it to the sleep unit of a public hospital in Spain. This methodology proposes the implementation of lean management in its broadest sense: adopting both lean principles and some of its practical tools or practices in order to achieve competitive advantage. The complete service value chain was considered when introducing changes through lean management implementation. This implementation involved training and involving staff in the project (personnel pillar), detecting and analysing “waste” in value chain processes (processes pillar) and establishing control and measurement mechanisms in line with objectives (key performance indicators pillar) and putting in place improvement actions to achieve these objectives. The application of this methodology brought about an improvement in the management of patient flow in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and quality but also an internal transformation towards lean culture.
