Industry 4.0 is changing the efficiency and output of current industries significantly. It is finding its way in every small application one can think of. Though in some small-scale industries in the developing countries are unable to afford such machines. Taking this into consideration this paper proposes a system to automate the process of packaging bottles by using different sensrs and actuators, which will be affordable to the small industries. Automating this final stage in the production of different bottles, will not only increase the efficiency of the industry but also save a lot of money in the long run.

Objectives of the study are: (1) to estimate the influence of input value and labor expenditure on the output of micro and small industries in Indonesia, (2) to analyze the form of translog production function that is compatible with micro and small industries in Indonesia. The analytical method used is descriptive method and analysis of translog production functions with scenarios: linear translog function, complete second-order or quadratic linear translog function, and linear translog function with interaction. Results showed that (1) the function of linear translog production with interaction was more suitable used to estimate the production output of micro and small industries in Indonesia, (2) input value and labor expenditure had a positive and significant effect on output values, (3) micro-industry enterprises more emphasis on the allocation of larger workforce, while small-scale industry emphasizes greater allocation of input value, (4) the allocation of input value and labor expenditure are more efficient in micro-industries compared to small-scale industries.

Purpose – A large number of small-scale industries have shown their existence in India, tough competition among them made the survival of small industries difficult. All facing problems like reduced production and poor quality. The case study presented in the paper deals with Kaizen implementation in a machine vice manufacturer company. Kaizen has tremendous impacts on the production techniques and lead times. Case study represented is to motivate practitioners for implementing Kaizen in small-scale industries of India. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – The methodology applied to implement the Kaizen in Indian small-scale industry. Fishbone diagrams have been used to represent cause and effects. The result has been shown as savings in terms of money and time. Findings – Processing time has been reduced by 44.4 percent and an amount of Rs. 64,000 has been saved by recovering a total of 80 square feet working area. Improvements in the form of work flow have been achieved. Research limitations/implications – Value stream mapping can be integrated with Kaizen for more reduction in the product lead time. Practical implications – The paper will be worthily for practitioners and consultants for understanding Kaizen implementation in small-scale industry of India. Originality/value – The paper yields lots of values for practitioners to understand the impacts and significance of the Kaizen in small-scale industries of India. Also it bridges the gap between theory and practical of Kaizen implementation in small-scale industry of India.

Small Scale Industries (SSI) consist entrepreneurs who all are engaged in production, manufacturing or service at micro level. Small industries have been playing a major role in India's economic and social development in the post-independence era. Small scale industries are fundamental to a developing economy with its effective, efficient, flexible and innovative entrepreneurial spirit. SSI units across the world have been approved on the basis of promoters of economic growth and indicative of promoting equitable development. SSI's contribution to the Indian economy in terms of job creation opportunities, reducing regional imbalances, promoting inter-regional linkages, increasing exports and promoting equal economic growth potential has been quite amazing. The sector ranges from traditional to high technology through over 6000 products, comprising over 36 million units across the country, employing over 80 million individuals. SSI helps in the growth of industrial development of the country. This paper attempts to discuss the role of small scale industries in developing the economy and explores various problems faced by it.

A regional development programme is set out for a developing country, using Bophuthatswana as an example. A stable society with an increasing quality of life, and creation of enough job opportunities in the country are assumed as the primary objectives. Of the various alternative approaches to creating employment opportunities - agriculture, wholesale and retail trade, construction of infrastructure, and large scale and small industry - it appears that labour-intensive small industries can achieve employment objectives at the lowest cost to the economy. This approach, which also develops entrepreneurship and organizational talent, is recommended as having economic, social and political advantages. The roles of small scale industrial entrepreneurs in developed and in developing countries are contrasted, the major problems in the latter being the ability to identify potentially profitable projects for export, and the ability to market in neighbouring countries. The proposed development strategy would require a new specialized development agency in South Africa, collaborating closely with the developing states's own development agency, and both of them assisting entrepreneurs to identify projects with potential.'n Streeksontwikkelingsprogram vir 'n ontwikkelende land word beskryf met Bophuthatswana as voorbeeld.
