Descritores: Depressão; Vida Acadêmica; Qualidade de Vida; Universidade; Estudantes; Educação Superior.ABSTRACT Objectives: to evaluate the quality of life of academically active students in a university; to verify if there is an association between quality of life and depressive symptoms. Method: this is a quantitative cross-sectional study. Three structured, self-administered questionnaires will be applied to measure the level of quality of life and depression index among academics. The descriptive statistical analysis will be done, the Liliefors test will be used and the Student's t-test will be used. The results will be presented in the form of figures. Expected results: the correlation between the quality of life of undergraduate students of the university and the incidence of depressive factors with the beginning of academic life will be realized. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that can dramatically impair patient quality of life (QoL). Objective: To analyze the QoL, motor capacity, depression, anxiety and social phobia of individuals who attended a patient support group (PSG) compared to non-participants. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed. The sample consisted of 20 individuals with PD who attended a PSG and another 20 PD patients who did not attend a support group for PD patients, serving as the control group (nPSG). All patients answered questionnaires on motor capacity (UPDRS), QoL (Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire- PDQ-39), depression (Beck Depression Inventory), anxiety (Beck Anxiety Inventory) and social phobia (Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale). To determine data distribution, the Shapiro-Wilk test was performed. For comparison of means, Student's t-test was applied. In cases of asymmetry, the Mann-Whitney test was employed. To assess the association between the scales, Pearson's correlation coefficient (symmetric distribution) and Spearman's coefficient (asymmetric distribution) were applied. For the association between qualitative variables, Pearson's Chi-squared test was performed. A significance level of 5% (p≤0.05) was adopted. Results: Individuals in the PSG had a significantly better QoL (p=0.002), and lower depression (p=0.026), anxiety (p<0.001) and social phobia (p=0.01) scores compared to the nPSG. Conclusion: The participation of PD patients in social activities such as support groups is associated with better QoL and fewer symptoms of depression, anxiety and social phobia.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the relationship between student participation in associations and the way they perceive their quality of life. Methods: a study of one hundred and sixty students of Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) Dentistry course belonging to the first, fifth, eighth and tenth semesters in Florianopolis, SC, Brazil. The theoretical basis is the Public Health approach, that, under the wider concept of health, considers associations as health promoters. A sociodemographic questionnaire, a questionnaire on associativism and the WHOQOL-Bref were used for data collection. Results: the results indicate that the participation of Dentistry students in associations improves self-evaluation of quality of life, satisfaction in personal relationships and reduces the frequency of negative feelings. Conclusion: students who participate in voluntary associations are associated with a better quality of life, promoting a more adequate professional formation. In this way, the participation of students in associations should be stimulated by the University. This perspective of analysis values social aspects in the perspective of health and can be a pioneering study in a field where there is still much to be studied, and can bring substantial contributions to the field of collective health and health as a whole.
