Oral health status of the elderly people is booming as a wide interest in dentistry. Complete dentures are the most common treatment for rehabilitation of total loss of teeth. Denture replacing the teeth helps in patients mastication, communication and aesthetics. This study aims to assess the oral health quality of patients wearing complete denture treated by undergraduate students. A questionnaire was prepared to assess the oral health-related quality of life among 107 complete denture patients who were treated by undergraduate students at Saveetha Dental College, Chennai. The questionnaire was administered to 107 respondents via telephonic conversation. The complete denture patient list was obtained by reviewing and analysing 86,000 patients record who visited the Saveetha Dental College during the time period of June 2019 to March 2020. Based on the data collected from the questionnaire, the results were tabulated and statistically analysed via the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).In this study, it was observed that the complete denture patients on the whole experienced positive outcomes with 73.8% patients with no allergy, 36.4% with no difficulty in phonetics, 45.7% reported occasional difficulties in mastication and 46.7% reported occasional food sticking to the denture. In this study, it is observed that the complete denture patients treated by the under-graduate students, on the whole, were satisfied with their dentures.

Abstract Background: Our aim was to assess the impact of non-surgical periodontal treatment on oral health-related quality of life of patients with periodontitis, performed by undergraduate dental students. Methods: An observational prospective one cohort study pre‑post test was performed, involving 31 undergraduate dental students. A complete periodontal examination was performed before and after receiving non-surgical periodontal treatment. The main independent clinical variables assessed were the grade of periodontal inflammation and the number of teeth with periodontitis. Oral health-related quality of life was assessed before and after treatment through the Oral Impacts on Daily Performances (OIDP) questionnaire. The association between the extension of periodontal treatment (measured as number of treated teeth) and final OIDP score was assessed, adjusting for age, sex and baseline OIDP, in a multiple linear regression model. Results: 34 patients were enrolled and treated by the undergraduate students. The global absolute score, the mean OIDP value, was reduced from 26.2 to 12. The global percent score, percentage of impact, was reduced from 13 to 6. Non-surgical periodontal treatment showed an improvement in oral health-related quality of life. However, no association between the number of treated teeth and none of the aspects measured by ODIP was observed post-treatment, adjusting for age, sex and baseline OIDP. Conclusion: Non-surgical periodontal treatment performed by undergraduate dental students on periodontal patients, did not show any impact on oral health-related quality of life, measured by OIDP.

Objective: This study compared the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among children with a cleft lip with or without a cleft palate (CL±P) and a group of their peers. The reliability of the Arabic version of the Child Oral Health Impact Profile Questionnaire (COHIP) was also assessed. Design: A cross-sectional study. Settings: Cleft clinic in a private dental college in Omdurman City, Sudan. Patients: In all, 75 children (mean age 11.3 ± 2.5 years) with a history of CL±P and a group of 150 school children without CL±P (mean age 11.4 ± 2.6 years). Main Outcome Measures: Overall and subscale scores on the Arabic version of the COHIP. Results: Test–retest reliability of COHIP in Arabic was high with an interclass correlation coefficient >0.8. Cronbach α value internal consistency was 0.8 for the total scale and between 0.7 and 0.8 for the subscales. The COHIP score was 89.41 ± 19.97 in children with CL±P and 122.82 ± 9.45 for the control group. Children with CL±P had significantly lower scores on the overall and all subscales when compared to children without CL±P ( P ≤ .001). Among the children with CL±P, there were no statistically significant differences on the COHIP based on age and/or gender ( P ≥ .05). Conclusions: Children with CL±P had a relatively high OHRQoL, which was lower than that of their peers without CL±P in both the overall scale and all subscales. Gender and age differences had no significant impact on the OHRQoL. The COHIP Arabic version showed appropriate reliability.
