This case illustrates the process of developing a learning module to support BA students in their use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) tools in their learning. At the university where this case occurred, the skill level of ICT use among students in a learning context was very heterogeneous. The E-learning Competency Centre, or ECC, which was in charge of techno-pedagogical development at the institution, created a hybrid learning module that offered students learning materials and activities with both face-to-face workshops and online tutorials for autonomous learning. The students were able to choose subjects they wanted to learn "à la carte" by taking tutorials on their own and/or by participating in face-to-face workshops. The module described in this case is currently under construction. The design phase of this project is the focus of this case study.

Education is seen as one of the most important factors for poverty alleviation and economic growth in developing countries (UNDP 2005; UNESCO 2005; WSIS 2005) and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for dissemination of education is believed to have huge potential for governments struggling to meet a growing demand for education while facing an escalating shortage of teachers (UNESCO 2006 in Anderson, 2008).This case study examines technology enabled learning initiatives in education in Samoa, focusing on developments at a leading university in Samoa (hereafter referred to as the university) and the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture (MESC). The case study focuses on the current status of technology based learning in Samoa outlining the current initiatives addressing the core issues of social accessibility, technological adaptability, economic viability, and political agreeability towards providing education and development opportunities. The discussion includes an evaluation of the effectiveness of presently used technology/ technology mix used in e-learning and its effectiveness in facing the demands posed by Social, Technological, Economical and Political (STEP) factors. For each technology initiative, issues and challenges are discussed followed by solutions and recommendations for future action and direction. The case study also looks at various international partnerships/ collaboration fostered by NUS and MESC to facilitate and enhance access to education for students, thereby are considered as solutions to the challenges in implementing technology based learning. The discussion concludes with a set of recommendations for the future of technology enabled learning in Samoa.

The use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in higher education has created totally a new environment which is fundamentally different from the traditional learning methods. The objectives of the study were to get the view of the University Grants Commission (UGC) about e-learning system and to investigate the possibilities of formalizing its implementation in the universities in future. As it is an exploratory study, the case study method was deemed appropriate. The result of the study shows that the UGC is favorable on the implementation of a campus-wide e-learning system in all universities. Though there is no formal policy on the embarkation of e-learning mode so far, it encourages the universities to adopt the system. This paper has also highlighted the possible areas for the early implementation of the e-learning mode and other requirements that should be considered for the future adoption of e-learning system.

Abstract Nowadays, the focus shifts from information and communication technology access to skills and knowledge. Moreover, lack of digital skills is an obstacle in the process of learning new digital competences using technologies and e-learning. The objective of this research is to investigate how to facilitate students to use the acquired digital skills in practice and to evaluate the impact of students’ previous knowledge level. Based on the e-inclusion digital skills model, the author develops two research questions: How students’ previous experience impacts practical usage of the acquired ICT skills and How students’ self-assessment correlates with practical usage of the acquired ICT skills. The research employs student-centred learning theory, where the learning process is based on students’ active action, experience and values. The research is based on a literature review and one case study. The results of this study confirm the relationship of the e-inclusion digital skills model with the knowledge level acquired and its usage.

The majority of universities in South Africa offer face-to-face lectures, resulting in the neglect of online lectures, although learning management systems (LMS) have been adopted and are capable of supporting onlinelearning (e-learning). The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) forced universities to move fully online and to adopt Video Conferencing Technologies (VCT) to supplement LMS for e-learning. However, most students confront challenges related to a digital divide, raising the question of whether universities are able to address these effectively. This study explored students’ reflections on the use of the Zoom VCT for e-learning at a SouthAfrican university. An interpretive qualitative case study was conducted, with data generated using emailed reflective activities and Zoom focus group discussions with 26 students in a curriculum studies programme.The framework of connectivism was employed and the data were thematically analysed. The study found that Internet access was a major challenge. While most students enjoyed synchronous Zoom discussions, they wereunable to use other Zoom functions for effective engagement. It is thus recommended that the university should develop an e-learning policy and provide the necessary resources and training to students in order to ensure fitness for purpose. The modern education process requires introduction of modern information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to make classes more attractive, to properly implement curricular content and, as a consequence, to provide students with education compliant with applicable standards. Some didactic classes are more predisposed to the use of ICT, and others to a lesser extent. The Faculty of Production and Power Engineering of the University of Agriculture in Krakow has been using modern IT solutions to support the teaching process for many years. The mentioned ICT tools include the e-learning platform Moodle, office packages (Microsoft Office, Open Office), groupware tools, Internet platform Google Apps, Microsoft IT Academy and many specialized software. This study presents a case study of the use of ICT tools during selected subjects at the faculty.

2020 is a very challenging year because of the covid-19 pandemic and this completely changed the music education landscape. In the past, learning musical instruments could be done face to face, now it is impossible. If no action is taken, this situation could cause stress among students, especially those who learning gamelan ensemble instruments. Unlike other musical instruments, the ensemble gamelan is expensive and student cant afford to buy it. That is why set of gamelan is only owned by the university and placed in the faculty only. Due to this, students who live far away are unable to practice their gamelan instrument due to movement control order these days. Therefore, this study introduces Gamelan E-Learning Techniques, which is the concept of learning gamelan basic hand techniques using a simulation methods for keromong, gambang, saron and gendang. The uniqueness of this study is due to the emphasis on the basic hand techniques of gamelan. By using google class application as well, lecturers can upload learning videos as well as assessment of student game techniques online can be done. This study uses experimental case study method with qualitative approach. The participants consisted of second semester of 36 students who attended the AME 3082 gamelan course at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).

How does e-learning support group work in university information and communication technology (ICT) education within a blended learning environment? While face-to-face interaction was possible for on-campus student group work, distance education students could only perform their group work online. This research adopted a qualitative case study approach. It explored the e-learning use by students in a core subject ‘Software Development’ in a Bachelor of ICT program with three group work assessments. The findings indicate that, while technology could effectively help students to collaborate in their group work and assessment tasks, some technological features in the learning management system are highly subject to constant enhancement, due to the nature of the subject requirements and the need to facilitate frequent technology-mediated interactions in some situations. A model of group work collaboration is developed to explain the need for a new design and development of features in e-learning tools.

This study examined the information and communication technology (ICT) skills relevant for effective learning possessed by undergraduate students. The study made use of descriptive survey research design. The study participants were 320 undergraduate students of university of Nigeria. The instrument used for data collection was “Relevant ICT Skills for Effective Learning among Undergraduate Students Questionnaire” (RISELUSQ). The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach-Alpha method and a reliability coefficient of 0.84 was obtained. Four research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The data collected were subjected to analysis, the mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the hypotheses were tested using t-test and ANOVA at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that undergraduate students possessed the relevant ICT skills that will enhance their learning and that the ICT skills of the male students were not different from that of the female. The findings also showed that the ICT skills of undergraduate students differ based on their educational level, particularly, between the 100 level and 500 levels. Equally, the finding reveals that the students face some ICT challenges like non-functional/limited projectors in classrooms, limited e-learning facilities among others. Based on the findings, it was recommended that students be encouraged to continue to improve on their ICT skills as it will enable them strive well academically and that school authorities should ensure adequate and proper infrastructures/ICT facilities be put in place within the university environment.

Electronic learning or online learning is a part of recent education which is dramatically used in universities all over the world. As well as the use and integration of e-learning is at the crucial stage in all developing countries. It is the most significant part of education that enhances and improves the educational system. This paper is to examine the hindrances that influence e-learning in Nigerian university system. In order to have an inclusive research, a case study research was performed in Evangel University, Akaeze, southeast of Nigeria. The paper demonstrates similar hindrances on country side. This research is a blend of questionnaires and interviews, the questionnaires was distributed to lecturers and an interview was conducted with management and information technology unit. Research had shown the use of e-learning in university education which has influenced effectively and efficiently the education system and that the University education in Nigeria is at the crucial stage of e-learning. Hence, some of the hindrances are avoiding unbeaten integration of e-learning. The aim of this research is to unravel the barriers that impede the integration of e-learning in universities in Nigeria. Nevertheless, e-learning has modified the teaching and learning approach but integration is faced with many challenges in Nigerian University.
