Abstract The structure of public water supply in Germany and the water resources used are briefly described. An overview over the legal requirements for drinking water is given, and the sources for contaminants are outlined. Then the multiple-barrier approach is discussed with respect to the resources groundwater and spring water, lake and reservoir water, and river water. Examples for treatment schemes are given and the principle of subsurface transport of river water as a first treatment step is described.

This article focuses on the relationship of aesthetics and ascetics with regard to the publication and popular reception of Kosher By Design, a cookbook published by a major American Jewish Orthodox press, ArtScroll Publications. The article analyses the ideological, rhetorical, discursive, and iconographic modes of address embedded within this text, treating them as instances of popular religion, and also as elements of a project in and through which the Orthodox Jewish intellectuals associated with ArtScroll seek to assert new forms of religious authority, in the context of a broader culture of “kosher consumerism,” to which this text is directed. The article ends by highlighting the paradoxical character of this form of “post-scripture,” in which books like Kosher By Design, and by extension other ArtScroll texts—including their popular prayer-books—are caught between competing demands of popularity and authority, art and asceticism, and religious stringency and bourgeois living.

The dynamic aspects of the reservoir which are water spread, suspended sediment distribution and concentration requires regular and periodical mapping and monitoring. Sedimentation in a reservoir affects the capacity of the reservoir by affecting both life and dead storages. The life of a reservoir depends on the rate of siltation. The various aspects and behavior of the reservoir sedimentation, like the process of sedimentation in the reservoir, sources of sediments, measures to check the sediment and limitations of space technology have been discussed in this report. Multi satellite remote sensing data provide information on elevation contours in the form of water spread area. Any reduction in reservoir water spread area at a specified elevation corresponding to the date of satellite data is an indication of sediment deposition. Thus the quality of sediment load that is settled down over a period of time can be determined by evaluating the change in the aerial spread of the reservoir at various elevations. Salandi reservoir project work was completed in 1982 and the same is taken as the year of first impounding. The original gross and live storages capacities were 565 MCM& 556.50 MCM respectively. In SRS CWC (2009), they found that live storage capacity of the Salandi reservoir is 518.61 MCM witnessing a loss of 37.89 MCM (i.e. 6.81%) in a period of 27 years.The data obtained through satellite enables us to study the aspects on various scales and at different stages. This report comprises of the use of satellite to obtain data for the years 2009-2013 through remote sensing in the sedimentation study of Salandi reservoir. After analysis of the satellite data in the present study(2017), it is found that live capacity of the reservoir of the Salandi reservoir in 2017 is 524.19MCM witnessing a loss of 32.31 MCM (i.e. 5.80%)in a period of 35 years. This accounts for live capacity loss of 0.16 % per annum since 1982. The trap efficiencies of this reservoir evaluated by using Brown’s, Brune’s and Gill’s methods are 94.03%, 98.01and 99.94% respectively. Thus, the average trap efficiency of the Salandi Reservoir is obtained as 97.32%.

Cognitive resources are needed for successful executive functioning; when resources are limited due to competing demands, task performance is impaired. Although some tasks are accomplished with relatively few resources (e.g., judging trustworthiness and emotion in others), others are more complex. Specifically, in the face of emotional ambiguity (i.e., stimuli that do not convey a clear positive or negative meaning, such as a surprised facial expression), our decisions to approach or avoid appear to rely on the availability of top-down regulatory resources to overcome an initial negativity bias. Cognition-emotion interaction theories (e.g., dual competition) posit that emotion and executive processing rely on shared resources, suggesting that competing demands would hamper these regulatory responses towards emotional ambiguity. Here, we employed a 2x2 design to investigate the effects of load (low versus high) and domain (non-emotional vs. emotional) on evaluations of surprised faces. As predicted, there were domain-specific effects, such that categorizations of surprise were more negative for emotional than non-emotional loads. Consistent with prior work, low load (regardless of domain; i.e., domain-general) was associated with greater response competition on trials resulting in a positive categorization, showing that positive categorizations are characterized by an initial negativity. This effect was diminished under high load. These results lend insight into the resources supporting a positive valence bias by demonstrating that emotion-specific regulatory resources are important for overriding the initial negativity in response to emotional ambiguity. However, both domain-general and domain-specific loads impact the underlying processes.

The reservoir Sundsbarmvatn, in Southern Norway, is used for electricity production from November to May. Sundsbarmvatn has two main basins. Water from the upper basin, Mannerosfjorden, flows into the lower basin, Gullnesfjorden. The two basins are separated by a narrow sound with a sill. The regulation interval for Sundsbarmvatn is 612-574 m a.s.l., but the sill prevents Mannerosfjorden from being lowered below 580 m a.s.l. The water intake in Gullnesfjorden is 571 m a.s.l. The water temperature conditions has been studied during two winters when the reservoir water was released. This study shows that a marked thermocline was gradually developed at the depth of withdrawal in Gullnesfjorden. In the epilimnion layer the temperature is gradually lowered through the winter, but in the hypolimnion layer the temperature seems to stay constant through the winter. In Mannerosfjorden, however, we find no clear thermocline at the end of the winter. The remaining water was relatively warm with temperatures mainly above 3 °C. The sill between the two basins seems to have a strong influence on which depth the water is flowing out of Mannerosfjorden and hence on the temperature and circulation pattern in Gullnesfjorden. At the end of the winter season this flow is strengthening and initiates a homogeneous flow layer in Gullnesfjorden. This layer is dipping downwards towards the outlet tunnel. For this reason the temperature of the water leaving the power station is 0.4-1.2 °C colder than the hypolimnion temperature in the reservoir at the tunnel depth.
