Why do people vote for “strong” leaders who condone violence, debase women, and stoke fear and scapegoating? If free elections alone are not the answer, what will it take to build a caring democracy that promotes the wellbeing and full development of all people? This paper examines these questions from a perspective that takes into account the connection between politics and economics, on one hand, and what children first experience and observe in their family and other intimate relations, on the other. It describes the study of relational dynamics, a multidisciplinary method of analysis that reveals social categories that transcend conventional ones: the partnership system and the domination system. It looks at modern history through the lens of the partnership-domination social scale, focusing on the struggle between the movement toward partnership and regressions to domination. It compares the integrated regressive worldview and political agenda with the fragmented progressive one. It identifies four cornerstones for partnership or domination systems: family/childhood, gender, economics, narratives/language. It then details how to build these cornerstones so they support a more humane, caring, and sustainable future, and provides practical resources for this urgent task.

  El objetivo general de esta investigación fue determinar si el hombre y la mujer se pueden desempeñar en igualdad de condiciones en la profesión de contador público en Panamá, en el año 2015. Los objetivos específicos tienen que ver con las variables: preparados, reciben, familia, crediticias, discriminación, prejuicio, estrictos, experiencia y ético. Se aplicó, a los datos recibidos de 240 encuestados, los análisis Alfa de Cronbach, Pearson y Espearman, tabulación simple y resultó que la condición de la mujer no es igual que la del hombre, que ambos están preparados para ejercer la profesión de contador público, la mujer no recibe el mismo salario, ni facilidades crediticias, ni condición de familia, que son más estrictas que el hombre, que es importante la experiencia y que sí es un problema ético.   Palabras clave: economía de género, discriminación laboral   ABSTRACT   The general objective of this research was to: Determine if men and women can play under equal conditions in the profession of public accountant in Panama, in 2015. The specific objectives have to do with the variables: prepared, receive, family, credit, discrimination, prejudice, strict, experience and ethical. It applied, to the data received from 240 respondents, the Alpha analyzes of Cronbach, Pearson and Espearman, Simple Tabulation and it turned out that the condition of the woman is not the same as that of the man, that both are prepared to practice the profession of public accountant , women do not receive the same salary, credit facilities, or family status, which are stricter than men, which is important experience and which is an ethical problem.   Key words: gender economics, employment discrimination

Most pedagogical literature has generated “how to” approaches regarding the use of student response systems (SRS). There are currently no systematic reviews on the effectiveness of SRS, for its capacity to enhance critical thinking, and achieve sustained learning outcomes. This paper addresses this current gap in knowledge. Our teaching team introduced GoSoapBox (an interactive online SRS) in an undergraduate sociology and public health subject, as a mechanism for discussing controversial topics, such as sexuality, gender, economics, religion, and politics, to allow students to interact with each other and to generate discussions and debates during lectures. Bandura’s Social Learning Theory (SLT) was applied to investigate the effectiveness of GoSoapBox for improving learning experiences. We produced a theoretical model via an iterative analytical process between SLT and our data. This model has implications for all academics considering the use of SRS to improve the learning experiences of their students.
