In today’s world, ever growing population adds up increasing numbers of cars. Especially, in metro cities with limited spaces for parking, innovative measures are the need of the hour. Our paper focuses on this specific aspect of acute shortage of parking spaces. In this paper, we are proposing a smart vehicular parking model, that takes into account registered or non-registered users parking at the same time. Additionally, it also takes help of image processing to classify the available space based on the size of the vehicle, making it an optimized real-time parking prototype. Using RFID to authenticate each user, the model uses Internet of Things (IoT), cloud storage to makes it convenient for each and every individual to locate and remotely book a parking spot via a smartphone. It works to its full potential by securing cashless transaction via e-wallet. The efficiency of our prototype has been further established by improving parking area by 28 % under any given circumstance. Hence this novel idea excels in every aspect by providing an optimized parking space.

The use of smart cities rises quickly with the fast progress of the Internet of Things (IoT) advances. The smart city idea essentially getting city life; as well raises the capability of municipal jobs and facilities plus form viable economic progress of the city. The point of convergence of this paper is to introduce an automated smart automobile parking system for smart cities demand employs internet of things (IoT) technology. The offered automobile parking system covers an IoT entity sent nearby for getting sorted out the existing parking spots which are quicker contrasted with different frameworks. It is a viewpoint gave as an iOS application for reservation, entrance, supervision, and leaving the car park places.

Current parking systems employ a single gateway-centered solution (i.e., cloud) for data processing which leads to the possibility of a single point of failure, data loss, and high delays. Moreover, the parking-spot selection process considers criteria that do not maximize parking utilization and revenue. The pricing strategy does not achieve high revenue because a fixed pricing rate is utilized. To address these issues, this paper proposes a smart parking system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) that provides useful information to drivers and parking administrators about available parking spots and related services such as parking navigation, reservation, and availability estimation. A multi-layer architecture is developed that consists of multiple sensor nodes, and fog and cloud computing layers. The acquired parking data are processed through fog computing nodes to facilitate obtaining the required real-time parking data. A novel algorithm to obtain the optimal parking spot with the minimum arrival time is also presented. Proof-of-concept implementation and simulation evaluations are conducted to validate the system performance. The findings show that the system reduces the parking arrival time by 16%–46% compared to current parking systems. In addition, the revenue is increased for the parking authority by 10%–15%.

Abstract Although the smart parking system is not a new concept for Sri Lankans, the idea of booking parking slots in advance and then parking is a novice theme for our country. So, we decided to see that novice theme as a new opportunity and used this concept for our study title, As the first phase of the study, we agreed to design a remote reservation parking system for a public parking area. We designed an online parking reservation mobile application system that shows the available free parking slots to the users where the users can reserve a parking slot for any time they want. IoT-enabled mobile app technology was used to develop the system. Results show promising results applying such a system to local parking stations in Sri Lanka.

Efficient and smart way to automate the management of the parking system that allocates an efficient parking space using internet of things technology. The IoT provides a wireless access to the system and the user can keep a track of the availability of the parking area. With increase in the population of the vehicles in metropolitan cities, road congestion is the major problem that is being faced. The aim of this paper is to resolve this issue. The user usually wastes his time and efforts in search of the availability of the free space in a specified parking area. The parking information is sent to the user via notification. Thus, the waiting time for the user in search of parking space is minimised.RFID technology is being used to avoid car theft.
